A brown Syrian bear was given to a new Polish Army, setting up in the Middle east in 1942.
The 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps would name him ‘Wojtek’ by the soldiers and soon he would become a morale boosting mascot for the troops.

hey simple history pls make a ww1 or ww2 factions: the roumanian army . pls i know the roumanians arent so knowed but i want to see it . in the war the romanian soldiers had big respect to high ranks and loyalty to the nation too .i think it would be interesting . actually roumania participated first with the german then the triple entente in ww1 and in ww2 they first join axis forces for 3 years then changed camps to allies forces for 1 year

FUN FACT:
After Wojtek was put in Edinburgh zoo, the veterans who fought alongside him climbed the fences to play and wrestle with their bear comrade.
They also brought him beer and cigarettes. Zoo keepers would allow them. Wojtek loved cigs and beer.
He's a godamn hero.

It's true. General Anders' soldiers tried to give him some alcohol, and it turned out that Wojtek is weak-headed, as after one beer he was turning totally drunk, mostly ending up with lying down and sleeping instantly. They gave him cigarrettes, but instead of smoking it (of course they lit the end of cigarette and then put it into his mouth) he started to chew. From what soldiers said, he didn't like the taste of it.

There's a document about Wojtek - where his polish caretakers recall many feats, among them help with unloading truck and putting crates on the ground; but usually, Wojtek would climb the tree and just look at where guns were shooting. However, carrying boxes on regular manner was staunchly DENIED. Yet, there is a testimony of two American troops who swear that they had actually seen Wojtek putting ammo crates near guns with busy staff seemingly unaware.
This bear is a fucking legend.

Wojtek also learned how to operate showers while in the Middle East, which came in handy one night. He went to the showers and stumbled across an Arab spy who was so terrified he started screaming in terror. The soldiers captured him, and during an interrogation in which Wojtek was present for coercion, the spy revealed his mission and his collaborators who were also promptly arrested.

As a soldier in war time did he revealed a military monument in his honor after his death in 1963. He's still a soldier not a human soldier but still a soldier. That's awesome and very odd to have a bear to help win a war. But yet the soldiers enjoy him and love him as one of their own war buddy. 🎖 🐻

fist one being of course Wojtek.
second one was named BAŚKA MURMAŃSKA and its not over she wasn't an ordinary bear, Baśka was a polar bear and was a part of batalion of Murmańczycy.
The third one, Michael met Wojtek but they didn't liked eachother so soldiers had to separate them becouse Wojtek could injure Michael.

I know this video is 4 years old by now, but you missed one important detail. After the battle of Monte Cassino, Wojtek was promoted to Corporal, making him a legitimate NCO.
The bear also got promoted, so If you joined the army after that battle a bear technically out ranked you.
Wouldn't even be mad at that point.

Wojtek wasnt only bear in polish army. In 1918-19 in polish army served female polar bear Baśka Murmańska. She took part in many battles from Murmansk to Warsaw in polish -soviet war and finally she was murdered by stupid peasants near Warsaw.

There's a really funny thing why soldiers loved Wojtek.
In Polish Corps, there were lots of women in Communication Group. Of course many soldiers tried to pull some of them.
One time they let Wojtek take a walk with no chain pinning him to the ground. He quickly entered.. the Communication Group's places, where there was women's laundry drying. Now imagine female screams when they went to take the laundry, only to notice huge bear with female panties on his head and bras on his back. Yes, it was Wojtek. Happily, male soldiers arrived and took Wojtek, quickly noticing that girls like to pat his head, and the fact that in girls' eyes, they could be seen as brave men that managed to tame a bear.
Wojtek LOVED water, and whenever he had free time he would go straight to the male bathhouse (one time he actually found a spy that was hiding in bathhouse), one time using so much water Soldiers had to order another tank (of water) to be delivered because he used entire supply. Near the coast, or after Italy campaign he tended to swim in water. And male soldiers used that, by letting him swim just near females. Now imagine that you're a girl, or a women serving in Communication Group. You're swimming in the sea, only to see large bear arriving like shark from "Jaws" movie. That could allow male soldiers to arrive like heroes and get Wojtek. After the war, many soldiers said that thanks to Wojtek they could pull huge amount of females!

Fun fact: the Polish soldiers trusted Wojtek so much they actually let him sleep close to them to bring them heat whenever it was cold outside, he is still hugely respected by the Polish army and is even considered a war hero by most.
