      From all the Amazon reviews I thought it would be perfect for us. Turned out it just didn't work right with the function we use most. I wanted to try a different model but the foodsaver at Costco was available now and I couldn't wait for others to be back in stock. Hopefully it will last a couple years as it is very easy to use. Thanks for watching.

    Great video, as always.
    Try inserting the bag material only far enough to cover the heat strip, don't let it touch the rubber seal on the vacuum chamber when making new bags. Another trick I use when making a bunch of bags is placing the bag roll behind the machine and feed the bag over the top of the machine under the lid onto the heat strip then seal it, pull it to the desired length and make the next seal, cut it with a sharp blade while the next seal is made. Doing it this way will cover the buttons on the machine, so you'll have to know beforehand what button to press. It's easier to do than to explain, I hope I'm making sense. Great review.

    We usually would freeze things like that first and then seal. Works every time. But, After over 20 years our Tilia foodsaver (Italian made - not the Chinese crap) it gave out. Plastic started to crack...pump still worked. Anyway. We almost bought a commercial negative pressure sealer but decided against it. So I took a gamble on this model: NESCO VS-12 Early last year it was only $90 bucks. Man, what a surprise this has been for us. We seal a ton of stuff and it works better then our Tilia ever did. Double seal if you want it, you can set it for sealing wet foods, impulse etc. And with it being a double pump its very fast. As fast as the one you just returned. It does take some time sealing but its always a great seal. Plus the locking mechanism is top notch. Look it up on Amazon if you can find one well worth it. BTW, I sent you a WeMe message last year about a router bit. If you get a chance please answer. I am racking my brain about it and still have not started the project. LOL One last thing, I think sealers will be hard to find due to covid and the rest of the apocalyptic crap going on.

      This one works great so far and also has setting for moisture. I looked for that model but couldn't find one and needed it quick. Freezing zucchini snacks only makes them shatter easily and ruins the texture so that us not an option for the gift bags we make. I have never gotten notifications from MeWe about messages from others. Thanks for watching.

After watching how to do it I will go back and rebuy the foodsaver now that I know it will work on the jars. I wanted the chamber one but couldn't justify the cost. This video was very timely for me as my Foodsaver died on me earlier this year. The attachment hose still works, so I can seal up my dried items in jars, but I am missing my bags for freezing! We are probably going to get that model at Costco after seeing your demo of it. Mine lasted well over a decade with a ton of use, so I don't mind replacing it.
    By the way, I introduced my family to "zucchini snacks" and it's funny how much more they liked them than dehydrated zucchini. hehehehe It shows how marketing works because it's the same thing I've always done, but with a better name. :)

      We love the basmati and didn't have enough when the pandemic started so we are stocking up now on rice, pasta, and Goya beans in case there is a second round in the fall. I pulled some of my zucchini today because I have had enough. We tried that once but the extra handling and freezing caused breading to become a mess under vacuum. When they are hot the breading is soft and will bend without coming loose if you limit the vac then the breading is perfect when thawed. We have done them for years like this. Uncontrollable high vacuum is not a good thing. Thanks for watching.

What I do is put my fruit on a cookie sheet in a single layer till they are firm or frozen, then out in bags and vacuum seal then back to the freezer. Works fantastic on my blackberries that I don’t want to crush

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 4 lety

      That doesn't help with the zucchini snack gift bags we make. Freezing only makes them more brittle and changes the texture. That makes a machine that works like the Avid armor worthless to us. The foodsaver works good with no damage to delicate foods. Thanks for watching.

    • @1982MCI
      @1982MCI Před 4 lety +1

      Unemployed Redneck Hillbilly Creations it’s understandable on the zucchini but on the eggplant that has the softer texture after cooking it should work well on because your freezing it anyways. I can’t give you advice for the zucchini tho, I’ve never prepared it like you do and my comment was mainly about the eggplant you were having the issues with. I have had the food saver units for 15 years or longer and they have not performed well on the delicate foods at all, that’s the quickest way to make a glass of fresh juice in the morning is throwing your raspberries, blackberries, etc in a bag and try to vacuum it down and it crushes them dead in 5 seconds which is why we freeze them first and then they aren’t froze as one big glob and you can pull a cup or two of berries out for a winter time recipe and they look just like you just picked them.
      Good luck to ya and thanks for the video

    • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023
      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023  Před 4 lety

      We tried it and if you freeze them then handle them again and pull a full vacuum the breading gets damaged. Been doing it like this for 30 years and not going to change what gives us the best results because of a poorly designed machine. Foodsaver works great and is consistent but probably won't last long but at this point that doesn't matter.

    I have a weird question. Why are you not using those sterile poly gloves when you are handling the food while placing food in the bags? Even if you wash your hands first, there's bacteria touching your hands which gets on the food ,no? Or am I just a OCD paranoid freak?

    There are many foodsaver video's on prefreezing first. That is the proper way or process. Doesn't matter what machine you use. Most foodsavers loose vac over time in the freezer. It pays to
    dbl seal with a separate impulse sealer. Used a few machines for years, not a novice. IMO you expect to much.

      I didn't have much of a choice after the old one quit. I found there are very few available now and I should have start looking when that one started having problems with the switch and release valve. From all the reviews and videos I thought the Avid armor would be perfect for us. I was really surprised how the pulse didn't work right and the sealing issues. I couldn't get a perfect seal with any of the settings either. Seemed to have hotter spots in the seal heater. Wanted to try the Nesco Americas kitchen recommend but it was back ordered everywhere. Costco only had a couple of these left and it works good so I will just save up for a chamber one someday. Waiting for you to recommend a chamber one because I haven't had much luck picking anything lately😟 .
