This week, we're helping release the newest MXR pedal: the Poly Blue Octave. And, no, we weren't paid to do it. We just likes MXR, okay? Josh also gets to showcase one of his favorite sounds ever: octave within whammy.

I shoot pedals in my vains
@@delayedpilot MXR didn’t sponsor the video- Guitareo did
Fun video. Could you demo it on bass?
SUGAR DRIVE putting KLONE to coffin 🤣
Dude, I'm really digging the jams. I don't know about the bass player's socks though... LOL
Your tight jams and promotion of competing companies' pedals continue to set this channel apart from the rest. Thanks for the great work, this was an awesome episode.
yeah i love that about JHS, ''yeah we have pedals, but have you heard of *insert company name here*''
I feel like looking at other companies in the marketplace as competitors is reductive.
The pedal market, especially the indie stuff (I know josh doesn't like being called 'boutique') is mostly musicians making things for other musicians.
The whole space is largely cooperative, not competative. Its really cool.
Yeah but that doesn't change the fact that jhs pedals suck
@@srfrodoxd why are you here then?
@@srfrodoxd oh of course, the absolute worst.
I'm sure JHS Pedals will continue to sell just fine, but it's good to know that they could always pivot to being The Pedal News Network at a moment's notice, since, Josh and Crew are the reigning kings of informative and entertaining Pedaldom. All hail my favorite digital hang. AND EVEN ADDISON IS IN THE SHOT, NOW!
Nice to see Addison in the Picture!
Yeah I dont know... it s dangerous to give the bassist too much power. Back in the broom closet, you!
Uhm, don't forget about TPS though. They might not be the fastest to review a pedal, but their tones and shows rule.
The vampire jam was absolutely amazing. Being a metal guy, it was certainly not what I expected, but it was much better than anything I could imagine
Pedal featured at the JHS show - probably sold out end of the week. Great video, as always!
If you haven't heard yet, the "Sugar Drive " is an amazing replacement for the overpriced Klon original .... Josh agrees. MXR makes some great sounding pedals and I think it's awesome that JHS has the balls to showcase them and give them the praise they deserve.
Josh got me to buy a modern Rat. In the under $130 range the od3 was not favored in my Fender rig.
You really can't go wrong with whatever comes from Dunlop right now. Some real gems from Way Huge and MXR.
I've the custom 78 badass distortion and I don't really like it... Maybe I was expecting something else
but strat (HSS) or Kurt Cobain jaguar I didn't find the sound I like
Can only get 1 or 2 sound that may sound good depending of the amp and the day but.....
I cannot tell you enough how happy you guys make me with your show!! It’s my comfort show and I smiled throughout the entire thing.
"Why don't you stick with pedals?" Fantastic moment, literally lol' d
I love when a JHS show makes me laugh out loud multiple times. This is a great one.
This episode was especially fun/playful. You guys make Friday feel like Friday.
It feels like Friyay!
“WHY DONT YOU STICK TO PEDALS” made me snort my coffee up my nose.
Legit one of my favourite videos of a pedal of all time. The jams were incredible. The end of the last one nearly had me in stitches.
Your playing is always so inspirational! All of you, truly. Josh, thank you for your contributions to music and fun 🙏🏽
Dude Audioslave self titled was so awesome. It was the marriage of two incredible bands making sweet sweet music. They blew my mind and kept getting better every album.
Who else wants to hear Addison jam this pedal on bass? *raises hand*
yesss on bass!!
I’m really considering getting this to use on bass. I wouldn’t have much use for the 2 octave down on bass, but all the other useful sounds you can get out of this pedal would make it worth it. Just my 2 cents..
@@ChrisDavis1975 the two octave down could make some crazy sounds with bass man idk
That's what I was looking for. To hear a pedal that would raise the octave pitch of a bass...
There are only a few bass-based demos/reviews of this pedal, but I can tell you from personal experience (having bought it about a week ago) that it’s very versatile, really fun-and a little goes a long way. For the sounds most of us would really use, you probably want to dial in just a bit of effect; but if you want to do something wild, it’s entirely capable. And yeah, -2 is basically too low to be audible.
I've been watching this show since 6-7 month and i almost whatched all videos, but most of the times I didn't pay the right attention on the jams, but this time I was particularly amused for the passion you guys have for music, all the time you pass by playing together is so inspiring, don't stop
Truly a man who is in love with pedals and chasing tone, no matter whom manufactures it. Great channel!
Loved this episode! Jams were especially killer this time around. Keep it up!
You are an INCREDIBLY underrated guitar player.
and he's been getting better, i think, i don't remember thinking that before, but you're right
And he's typically holding back. He's world of paper Superman underneath the self effacing irony.
Grande JHS. You guys make Friday feel like Friday.
I love your content. You guys are so chill down to earth, and I have learned so much about pedal history and circuits. The fact you don’t isolate yourselves from other pedal companies is so refreshing. I have purchased so many pedals of many different companies based on your videos, including many of yours in my rig every week. Keep it up guys!
The fact that the approach to your channel is "lets make good content", rather than "Lets sell a ton of JHS pedals" means so much to me. This is a fantastic channel and with this fact I'm a little ashamed to admit that I do not own a JHS pedal of my own. When I've got some cash to throw around, my next pedal purchase is going to you guys for sure. I hope this channel keeps going strong for years to come.
This is a great episode. One of the best of all times. I love your work guys.
Your posts are always a real breath of fresh air! I love the humor and the playing is always inventive.
I use an HX Effects, and have no need whatsoever of 99.9% of all the pedals you talk about. But I watch every minute of every video because Josh. Great stuff as usual. Love you guys.
Love the love for the sugar drive. It's fantastic! And has a much appreciated buffer.
Awesome jams! So much fun! A great reflection of the pedal and truely amazing recording quality!
Love the jams but really enjoying the love put into the production of this show.
Playing octaves INTO the octave pedal... GENIUS! Also admire the production job. This jam (Star Jelly Sandwich) sounds like a modern mastered cut for an album! I mean, like an Adult Album Alternative album, but still! Nice work!
It’s great to see how these pedals function in an actual band senario. Big thumbs up for always doing that!
SICK BURN!
XD
Thanks for be so knowledgeable and entertaining at the same time!
Been super binging this channel of late so good!
This pedal is not only rad but a major bargain. It’s a phaser, a Leslie, a fuzz, an OC-2, and a POG all in one. Really.
And I don’t know if Josh mentioned this, but with the expression pedal not only can you *switch between two settings but you can actually *fade between settings, so if (for example) heel down = slight modulation + quiet sub octave, and toe down = heavy modulation + louder sub + loud octave up… You can fade into the toe setting, gradually introducing the heavier flavor, then ease back into your more subtle setting. (FYI: The fuzz is more of an all or nothing thing; it doesn’t really fade in. But still, you can adjust the volume of it, thereby basically adjusting the amount of fuzz in relation to the rest of your sound.)
If I can do the Tom Morello thing with this pedal, then it's a complete steal.
Great jams and really cool pedals. I really think Addison's bass tone is always tasty. It is cool to see him promoted to being on camera.
You crack me up Josh. You create great Tones, and Jams. Greatly appreciate your channel
Love the channel, great jams, and the new JHS reverb rules.
delighted to see Addison and his sick stache on camera for once besides the live show. i feel like his bass adds alot to jams and its nice gettin him some recognition in the more short-ish-but-normal-length-form videos
A bass usually does that.
@@markushulthen huh?
He definitely nails a great bass face.
But are his pants tucked into his socks?
@@BIZARBIES an absolute must for keeping warm.
I don't understand how you guys can wear white gym socks, use straps while sitting down, and have headstock tuners in the shot, and still be so dang cool.
Using no strap while sitting down is uncool.
Why would’ve you use a strap?
Great video. You guys always bring out the best in pedals.
gosh i love this channel :) this is so useful and hilarious and i don't know what i love more :D
Hey guys, that jam session was really cool. Some different sounds & rhythms. You guys shined brighter than the MXR on button. 😁
Shone!
@@DMSProduktions "Shone" yes you are correct. 😊
@@bluerock5351 ;o)
I love MXR so much. The Sugar Drive is so good. My Whammy DT takes up so much space. I could sell it and get this and the Drop pedal instead and free up some space and add a fuzz to my board.
Hey. I just wanted to say I love your intro music. I vibe to it every single time no matter how many JHS videos I've watched back to back. It reminds me of Feel it All Around by Washed Out, which is another thing I look forward to every time I watch Portlandia.
your jam session flows like water guys. I love it. I'm so buying this pedal.
MXR are fantastic pedals especially for their price, I have the Sugar Drive and is my favourite drive pedal at present, I love the dynamic range of it with your pick attack and was only £99 new in the uk.
The Poly Blue Octave sounds great in your video and is a really versatile pedal, it looks cool and I think is fairly priced at £199 uk for the range of effects you get and the build quality will have the MXR excellence. Good video JHS, thanks
It’s so good to see the show with just the pedals and the band. That’s what’s important.
This…..is the best video I’ve ever seen recommending pedals. You literally get all the info you need to buy a pedal. Great video 🤘
Nice!!! Love everything you guys do!
Great to finally see Addison in the jam videos. Always like to see the whole band! Suggestion for vinyl of the week: "Interstate" by Pell Mell. Very much into the instrumental guitar vibe of your second jam. Check it out!
That first jam sounds like it could be the new Dr. Who theme tune! 😁
You do an Amazing Job of Selling Everybody Else's Pedals to the World. You are a True Treasure Josh. Thank You!!! Love your Jams!!!!
Ok it’s official. LOVE your videos. Hilarious. Entertaining. Not taking things too seriously. Best jams in this vid too 👏🏻
1. I love my Sugar Drive! It was my first overdrive pedal and it really does do the klon thing very well.
2. You have shown your bassist in the jams before, but last time it happened it wasn't Addison!
3. I love that both "he has the box" and the theme song are in C Major; it really made that combo extra nice.
Great jams in this episode!
Another MXR pedal that sounds like heaven? I need it!
Also, did you guys know that the Sugar Drive is a really good Klon?
Excellent demo video. Very entertaining too. Thanks guys
Nice great video. Its so nice that you talk good about any other pedals compagny. I just wish my shop I always go have more JhS pedals.
This episode has my new favorite jams. “Lazer Duel at High Noon” was SICK. Is there hope for an extended version in the future? “Star Jelly Sandwich” too?
listen to raving and drooling by pink floyd
Awesome feature design !! It has it all and more and it apparently does the monophonic polyphony great !!
This pedal was needed.
Great Radiohead-style drumming on the last jam !!
Another great show! Your channel rocks!! Thanks.
Excellent jams like always, great pedal, greetings from chile
The Sugar Drive really doesn't get enough love. It's such a great pedal. This new pedal is wicked. I didn't think I needed an octave, but here we are.
I heard the sugar drive is, like, just like a klon.... i think that s just a rumor though...
Woww.. that's really cool. When you've got the rotary and all the octaves on, it sounds like an organ. I need to get one of these now
Man, those jams are killer! Nice work. 🙃
Great demo, crazy creative sounds! I really want to step out of my comfort zone and try and create crazy tones and tunes like this.
This is secretly a sugar drive episode.
I already know this video will convince me to buy this pedal
Really nice camera work on this one! I loved the addition of Addison in the background btw :)
Thanks for this!!! Just preordered mine
Great sounding pedal, lots of cool tones. I think I need a Sugar Drive.
This is going to be a killer bass pedal. Also the jams from this episode might be my favorite. So good.
I would have loved to hear Addison's feedback and a bit about the best settings for bass!
@@xdoctorblindx I came here to say that. I've got a Boss Harmonist and it works great, but this could go in so many other directions.
@@xdoctorblindx totally agree
This is my Fav Channel. Solid work
Thanks so much!!!
This is such and excellent demo of this amazing pedal thank you my friend! I may have to get this excellent playing too
Nik! Addison! Do a follow up with octave pedals on bass and drums 😱
"Why don't you stick to pedals." -This is first time I've laughed OUT LOUD at one of these JHS videos. SICK BURN !!! Also, I really somehow don't like that sugar drive at all. Guess I need to reevaluate my musical choices or maybe just twist the knobs some more.
I love the drum sound! Especially the snare!
Nick is making absolute bangers with those stinger jingles. Absolutely love the jams, & record time is my favorite way to find new vinyl for my collection. Really enjoying those magical special diodes today too. lol
The 10 band EQ pedal they make is fantastic. And the sugar drive is one of my favorite Klon clones. A close second to the Tumnus.
I love my Sugar Drive >my Keeley mini Red Dirt .Almost as much as I love my Tumnus >my mini Tube Screamer ; )
If I didn't have a POG2 already I think this pedal would be right up my alley. Thanks for the demos!
I do have the Bass Octave Deluxe from MXR though. That's not polyphonic.
Same with the oc 5
I like the Bass Octave Deluxe as well.
Using these pedals in the intended musical context is extremely helpful to me. Many of these, I wouldn't give a second look to, until I hear the jam. Great job! Thanks!
Best, funniest pedal video ever! Really cool jam!
You had an octave pedal.
You know who loves octave pedals?
Bass players.
You had a bass player. Right there. Just sitting there.
You know what you didn’t do??
Plug it into his bass!!!!!
oh for the love of god man, plug a bass into it already.
Exactly!
That’s why I love Juan’s Channel
Yeah it was a fun ep but the bass-blindness was louder than the sick burns. 😉
Now I wanna hear it on bass.
Josh we need more people like you on this earth. So cool that you're not snobby and promote other companies products just for the love of the craft of your industry. I mean I've bought 6 of your pedals just because of your personality alone. As a professional salesman myself, thats what I call a master salesman. Keep up the fantastic work. I can't wait until my packrat arrives.
Great team! I'd be screwd without being able to watch you guys after a lousy day, no pressure!
The Boss OC-5 has two outs, so you can choose what effects for your octaved or otherwise dry signal, and/or run them to different amps. I love mine. It has bass and guitar mode, and the tracking is way better than the POGs. Tracking is similar to the excellent new versions of the Digitech Whammy/Bass Whammy.
Im using this on my analog rig and who doesnt want a blue metal flake pedal that looks this cool and has blue box fuzz.
Looks great, does a lot & sounds even better. Thanks!
Josh, your content is incredible! You are a hilarious dude!! Great guitarist and pedal guru as well!!! Always been a fan!!! My 14 year old son is now starting to play and I've been showing him my pedal collection and started sending him your episodes to watch. We watch you guys most nights before bed!!! So much fun! You guys are all great dudes!! We will never stop watching!!
Awesome Jams today fellas!!! Great Pedal as well. BTW, does MXR make a Klon Clone?
Sugar Drive
@@donmako Is it a clone or a variant ? Josh seems very hung up on classifications lately i.e. see last episode ; )
I love Josh keeps calling jams with 0 key changes jazz😂
It’s modal jazz. Duh.
So excited for this.
You guys are awesome! Love the reviews!
Wow, I've been looking at octaves for a while but plain Jane octaves didn't really do anything for me.
This just jumped right to the top of my considerations list.
MXR are slowly taking over my board.
Demo on bass? PLEASE!!!
My favorite pedal I've ever owned. It jump started my dormant love for pedals again!
Great episode. Great pedal. I'm sold.
I’m in the market for a octave pedal let’s see how this one turns out! Just starting the episode I have faith it will be great, im hoping for octave up and down 👏
Seems pretty cool.. I might give it a shot🤔
Hey Josh. The MXR Sugar Drive is a really good Klon. Nobody is talking about it. I just want you to be aware of that! ☝️😆
Excellent jams!
Love MXR and Way Huge. quality tones and build
