- Welcome back to the couch everyone!!! After Saving Private Ryan we thought we needed something a bit more light-hearted, so we decided to watch a movie about foster children and whales in captivity...sounds great!
Having seen this countless times as a young child, he was HORRIFIED when he learned she had somehow NEVER SEEN FREE WILLY!!! Was this a joyful trip down memory lane, or should it have just been left at the bottom of the ocean? DECIDE WITH US AS SHE WATCHES FREE WILLY FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!

Had to watch this movie in school. When the whale, Keiko, was freed in Iceland, he ended up swimming to Norway straight into a fjord in my community. So to get all the kids up to speed about who this whale is, we watched the movie.
15:07, they spoofed this in an episode of The Simpsons, where Homer is watching the "Director's Cut" showing Willy crushing and killing the little boy accidentally when he didn't make the jump. Lol!
Every time the scene where Willy cries for his family, I get goosebumps.
The only reason I watched the first Free Willy & Free Willy 2 is cause of one person...MICAHEL JACKSON! The two songs from each film are so beautifully constructed “Will You Be There” & “Childhood” are Masterpieces so the only reason those two films are any good is because of that man The Greatest Music Artist To Ever Live Period! I miss MJ so much Great Reaction btw😇🙌🏽👑❤️💕✨

I've watched this movie a few times as a child, and that cake is what I remember most vividly. Because whyyy was the kid pouring ketchup over his slice of cake?! Why?!
Also, I would LOVE to see your reactions to Bedazzled and/or Monkeybone, if you haven't seen them. They're ridiculous, but Brendan Fraser is a treasure. :)
We are in complete agreement, that cake was certainly a highlight of the movie. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THAT CHILD WOULD RUIN IT. Haha was it ketchup though? It kinda looked at bit like hot sauce to me, at least that would have like a "bad boy" element to it I guess??? Still super gross though! That kid tries to strategically bite around the sauce if you look close, haha.
I've seen both of your recommendations (in complete agreement about Brendan Fraser) but Bran hasn't seen Monkeybone! It's goin on the list!
It does look like hot sauce! Nooo! Either it was that kid's idea, and he regretted it by the 2nd take (hence the bite that was pretty much ALL cardboard), or he pissed someone off, lol. Ooof! And YESSSS! Monkeybone is such a fever dream - if anything, it's visually entertaining, haha.

I can't quite remember which VHS I owned that had the preview of Free Willy on it but it must have been one of my favorites cause I certainly saw it ALL THE TIME. I think maybe that's why I never sought the movie out as a child... I felt as though I had kind of already seen it.
I am with you about the sound of willys cry being the sound of my anxiety. Lol
Am I overly sensitive? Maybe! I just tried to introduce it to my 2 year old and I was bawling 5 minutes in and told him he's SOL and has to discover it in his own time 🥺😂
One really good child actor I really enjoyed was Tonya Crowe in Dark Night of the Scarecrow. It's very suspenseful and I have to say her character of Mary Lee was phenomenal
I know I'm late to the party and odds are you won't see this but the whale in "free willy" was an actual captive whale by the name of keiko... it's dropping fin is common of killer whales in captivity due to depression and anxiety (killer whales are social animals and aren't used to being alone which is why they travel in "pods".. keiko was released in the in the late 90s but never fully integrated into the wile which us why he stayed under observation... he was released in Iceland but later turned up in Norway where he was letting people pet him and even allowing little kids to ride on him... he died in 2003 pneumonia was his cause of death

Siskel and Ebert have this film a mixed review and jokingly titled this as "A Boy And His Whale", which is what their relationship is like. Lol!

I love this movie. Was sad to see Xena and Hercules was not on your to watch list. It's only the best of 90s mythology 🤣
Despite how cheesy this movie is, its a very unique movie & I loved this movie as a kid, finally rewatched it recently after finding it at a thrift shop for only 50 cents
