    I recently purchased my 2017 Ram 2500 Mega Cab Laramie Diesel. I'm in Albuquerque, NM and bought it in Phoenix. Drove back averaging 75 to 80 mph. I was curious on how accurate the computer was so decided to manually check. Made it to Alb from Phoenix on one tank. Computer said 16.6 average and manually it was 16.3. My previous truck, 2006 Ram 2500 Mega, was off around 3 to 4 mpg so I was pleased to see a huge improvement over accuracy. Will check in city mpg next.
    Great videos, BTW, and good info. I watched your videos before I bought my truck and helped me out quite a bit in my decision.

      +Jose Carrasco thank you for sharing your experience and for the feedback. Very happy to help. I'm now wondering how accurate the pump is that I used

      I’m from Albuquerque as well. I just bought a 2018 Ram 2500. What has you GPM experience been in Alb? Has the elevation played a factor as opposed to sea level where you bought yours?

      FWIW I've had this thing from 5,000 to over 9,000 feet and have not noticed a significant difference in fuel economy. Turbocharged vehicles are great at elevation.

      That’s good to know. We’re at 5000+ feet here. Thanks for information. Your videos are helpful

    I enjoy your videos. Calculating mileage each fill up gives each a larger opportunity for variances. I think you could have a better result from taking the consumption and distance from several fill ups , which would minimize the differences in individual fill up amounts. In other words, 1500 miles divided by however much fuel pumped from the several times you purchased fuel. Then you would have only the one variable of when the guy who pumped fuel the first time stopped vs. the last guy stopping. The in between refueling wouldn't matter. Doesn't matter if you topped it off or not. You could burn a half a tank, a quarter of a tank, whatever. The only variable is from first top off to last. Which would be smaller than five top offs. You knew what I meant before you even finished reading this. I personally do mine monthly...when I care, that is, so I can see any difference with seasonal driving...like A/C on in Florida vs. A/C off, or road trip to Tennessee mountains vs. Florida.

    Have you noticed any correlation with the accuracy and how many times heavy acceleration is used? Meaning the easier on the throttle the more accurate or vice versa. I ordered a 3500 Mega w/ Aisen enroute and just sold my Duramax. I noticed my Duramax was pretty accurate, but would be slightly more off if used heavy throttles more often.

    • @PNWreckage
      @PNWreckage  Před 7 lety

      +Rick Dykstra I checked that on the last fill up and didn't notice a correlation. I will keep testing it

    I noticed on your receipt that the total amount owed was $62.00 even. Is that a happy coincidence or do you have to tell the attendant that you want $XX.00 put in? Since you cannot pump your own fuel in OR, I was just wondering.

    How much of your mileage is city vs highway. On our 2014 Ram 2500 mega cab cummins 4x4 Straight highway we get anywhere from 24-26 mpg city it's usually around 19mpg We have gone from Central Texas to Northeast Tennessee 1100 miles or so in a straight shot starting with a full tank and only filling up once and still have half a tank left all in one day so ours is pretty accurate atleast. We don't hand calculate it but if you did 1100 miles divided by 45 gallons, so a tank and a half, or close to it. Averages to about 24.4 miles a gallon.

      We find that idling really throws off the computer so if we can avoid it we do.

    • @PNWreckage
      @PNWreckage  Před 7 lety +1

      +THEDESTROYER711 it's about a third city, a third county road aka highway and a third interstate. I drove 500 miles basically straight and ended on 21mpg hand calculated. I once got nearly 24mpg on my 2016 but it had 27k on the clock and this one only has 8k. I'm guessing it will continue to improve but hopefully the gauge gets more accurate also

      PNWreckage we have 42k on it now. Love the beast!! Trying to persuade my dad to delete it but haven't been able to yet haha bAlso do you use cruise control? I get the best mileage without it. Also I absolutely hate cruise control with a passion lol I don't know why tho just never use it even when I make the drives by myself. I've done it twice now 17-18 hours total trip and I don't even use it haha and I get 19 mpg in my 2016 1500 ram crew cab 4x4 so jealous of my dads truck haha but the v8 gas sound is intoxicating lol. But wouldn't mind getting an Ecodiesel of the price is right.

      +THEDESTROYER711 it's funny I was just talking to my wife about my suspicion that cruise control isn't as efficient! I use it on long, straight stretches of interstate but that's usually it

    Are you worried that your 2017 model year is not as efficient as your 2016? From personal experiences and all the lawsuits flying around about emission programing I am wondering if cummins didn't put that cheater program in for the 2017 model year.

      +out ofthebox I think it's not completely broken in yet, honestly. The EPA is upset about undisclosed code in the Ecodiesel in Ram 1500s and Jeep vehicles. As far as I know Cummins is not being investigated

      Duramax just got hit with lawsuits a couple of days ago So I'm wondering if cummins is next. In 2015 I bought a new ecodiesel 13hr drive away from home. I followed a 2015 Ram 3500 on the way home with 12, 000 miles on the odometer. I only beat the ram 3500 by 1.9 mpg on the way home. We followed each other. I was not impressed. 25mpg for the 3500 and 27 for the ecodiesel I noticed my hwy mpg improved about 4mpg after my first winter and I just attributed it to the breaking-in period. I blew my ecodiesel engine at 18,000 miles and ram put in a new one. My fuel mileage picked off great with the new engine, same fuel mileage as the broke-in old one and with no break in period. This makes me go hmmmm. I just picked up a the same 2500 pickup as you and I am not getting close to the fuel mileage as the 3500 did in 2015. I am just assuming that I'm not going to be getting the improved mpg that I am expecting after the break -in period. I hope my suspicions is not correct.

      PNWreckage maybe its just me being an anus but it seems to give me a long lasting headache and i avoid it like the plague. i understand you want to imprint your name on viewers' minds but it's such a niche market that people can find you very easily anyway. Maybe a 2 second flash would be better. Also i cringe when you struggle to snap your camera back into the windshield clip.

    • @PNWreckage
      @PNWreckage  Před 7 lety

      +golforfishing I appreciate the direct feedback but it's always a bit hard to hear. In my initial videos it was just a fade in of the channel name. It's funny how taste differs. Several people have asked about the song in the intro because they like it but I'm now curious about the general perception. I pulled it off a no-copyright website as a template so it's not something I spent hours working on. Open for input for anyone reading this.
      Curious what you hate about snapping the camera back in. I usually edit those things out because I also hate that. I left those in this series in an effort to be transparent with this "scientific" test but maybe it's not necessary. I assumed someone would be concerned that I was manipulating it.

      I don't know either as I'm usually patient and thick-skinned. Maybe it's the repetition.
      Everything else is excellent and there's a reason why we watch your videos.

      +golforfishing honestly thanks for letting me know and for the positive feedback as well. Nothing worse than an informative video that is painful watch. I'll keep working on polishing these, just don't hold the mpg series against me too much.
