Thank you Brian and Megan for another great video. I'm looking forward to nice weather and to start flying the SUS, now that it's programmed. I appreciate the additional tips and tricks you've included for this model. Now I'm going to revisit the programming on my RV7 to include voice commands. And thanks for the links that allow me to contribute to both of you in a small way.
Thanks, and best of luck on your maiden!
Thanks, Brian for the unboxing video.
Very helpful and informative!
Thanks again !
Thanks Brian, just bought the plane and set it up using your video. So helpfull :-) When testing safe it is the first time that i saw that the rudder also moves a lot when you flip it upside down, first time i noticed this LOL Came back to your video to check if this also happens when you do it, and it did. So reassured now that everything is working ok 🙂
Brian, your not alone, I always lose my nuts in tight places. Super cool aircraft, you guys have the best build videos on CZcams.....
LOL - very nice - So glad I'm not all alone on that one ;)
Such a great build Brian & Megan.
What a good travel aircraft.
Many thanks.🇦🇺👍
*NOTE Just figured out the white battery tray has white Velcro strips and if you add "fuzzy" Velcro to the battery you can position it and never worry about sliding (complete it by fastening the Velcro strap) - love the information in all of your videos. Soaked up all info/tips and understood all content a HUGE THANK YOU Also - I put the screws in on TOP as well HAHA absolutely happy I did not fly it without noticing
Nice plane ! Definitely worth the money !😊👍
Much better built than my GWS slow sticks. It seems much sturdier much improvement, what a great plane ! Awesome, I love it ! Bravo for the ones who built this one.
Love your videos Brian, from Germany and bought the beaver due to the tow cuppling. My son is 7 also and we want to do glider towing. He is although more confident flying the beaver so we are still training on the simulator. But the ultimate goal is beeing able to glider tow with my son. Thanks for all your information!!!
Thank you for what you do. Your video is great. It shows that you make the same mistakes that I do. I can't wait till my Slow ultra gets here!
Too funny, it HAS been 20 years since I am getting back into R/C...... good stuff, thanks for the details
The rubber tip on the prop is a through back to the GWS Slow Stick. 😊
I didn't realize that, Thanks for the info!
Maybe it is rubber so it doesn't slide around during assembly? @BrianPhillipsRC
There's a 2nd mortgage worth of batteries there lol.
I have a pair of squishy ones But not the ones that allow me to enjoy the hobby I am 100% blind but I enjoy watching you and your wife when you guys put videos out I watch your videos I buy the planes and then I try to get my 14-year-old boy to fly them I have an addiction to buying planes. I can’t fly, but I love them so much. Arrow scout coming soon for the wifey. She’s joining the excitement. Thank you guys for all you do.
Awesome! Glad you got a good pair to squish at least!!!
I'm a bit confused though, are you actually 100% blind, or just slight exaggeration, and can't see without a lot of correction? If you're just saying "100%" blind, and really just meant you have a strong prescription, I too was "blind" like that before I got LasicPlus, and wish I would have done it 10 years before!!! Also, they said I would be a BAD candidate due to astigmatism, and that my lenses would be too thin (outside of their arbitrary diopter range - too thin AFTER correction), but later, after talking to the corneal implant doctor, which is what they recommended, he said the "Diopter" thickness would be TOTALLY fine, since it was arbitrary. So, in the end he said he'd do my eyes 100% LasicPlus, rather than Corneal Implant followed with LasicPlus for fine tuning. This is way better, since it was HALF the cost, and it also meant I'd avoid the 100% chance of cataract with a non-natural lens implant.... Anyway, I guess what I'm saying, is that if you want to fly RC, and can see SOME, but can't get corrected good enough to enjoy it, you might consider the possibility of LasicPlus. It was the best $4,000 (or whatever it was, back when I did it) I ever spent medically speaking.
P.S. I have had ONE "Touchup" and I had a small side effect with it where my eye grew some skin cells over the iris, and then I had to go back in an have the surgeon SCRAPE my eye ball - seriously - it was weird, but worked, and fixed the side effect.
Glad you're here with us, and hope you can figure a way to fly some day. It's a blast, but always want to help people who have a harder time getting in the air.
To those that complain about the price, please don't. I'm heading to my local hobby shop tomorrow to get the last one they have in stock...Canadian price, $330.00 out the door. I envy my American neighbors that pay so much less for these planes. FYI Brian, I don't use your links only because shipping to Canada is also never free, and rarely cheap but I do smash the like button. One more example...cz Cessna 150t $499.99 American, my cost..$750.00. So just buy something and fly! :)
you both are amazing, thank you for your great videos.
Thanks!!! Glad you liked it!
Keep up the great videos Bryan love it.
Great video as usual. This will be my next airplane. I've fallowed you for quite some time now and your videos get better every time. Next time, measure in Pounds and Ounces. We're Americans. Also, If you have the time, do another video showing the transmitter programing for the Flaperon settings. I plan on doing that to mine. I can see this airplane becoming a cult airplane, with all the upgrades that can be done. Motor upgrades, Flaperons, Clipped wings, Timber wheels, and so on. Thumbs up to Wifey for being the other half of your successfull show. Peace Brother.
Thanks, and hope you love the plane!!!
Love the spektrum power plant
Great video on a neat "throwback" design being reborn by E-Flite with modern SMART technology. I have one on order (through your link) for two reasons. A nice smaller park flyer that is low-stress and an aircraft that will be good for "buddy-box" sharing with folks that visit. Question: Do you plan on demonstrating installation of the second aileron servo and programming for flaperons? I have the second servo on order with the servo arm kit for it. Sounds like it will be a wait due to the demand already. Thanks for all the work you two put in on these videos. They are very helpful to me.
Remember the COX .049 many had them the rubber spinners they do help somewhat to save the prop.
This reminds me of the old Hobbico DURAPLANE from back in the day!! I always saw it in the old 1990s Tower Hobbies catalogs!!
Did you like it?
If your asking about the Eflite Slow Stick, yes sir.. It's a nice everyday chill flyer.. If your asking about the Duraplane, I never flew it, and I was really young not much money then so I didn't pay much interest in it.. I was learning to fly then like on a PT 40 ARF😊
Just got one. It’s decent for the price. Would be better if it came with a battery for that price but I already have batteries so no big deal here. It’s everything I loved about the GWS slow stick except far more durable and the landing gear actually hold the weight of the plane, and doesn’t require modding for brushless motor or servo fitment.
It’s way heavier than a stock slow stick, but usually by the time I’ve modded the slow stick to have ailerons and sturdy landing gear and such, it ends up as heavy as this anyway, but is less durable.
1:18:10 Thrust Reverse setup.
Thanks for the Time Stamp ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Right on 🤠
Brian, I programmed my NX8 for the Slow Ultra Stick like you did in the radio set up using F Mode and on switch A (gear). It seems to work ok but was wonder why you did not just use the radio set up with out flight mode and just use the manual set up with picking safe by toggling the A switch back and forth 10Xs. Thanks for your help.
I don't think it works like it USED too...but I may be mistaken. BEFORE Forward Programming, we used to do that stick flicking, but now we just use Forward Programming, and sometimes it's already assigned, like with UMX planes.
I placed a pre-order thru your link, Thanks
Awesome, thank you! It's appreciated!
HH sent notice today the Slow Ultra Stick shipped :)
Compared to Turbo Timber, which one would be best if I enjoy slow flying and ease of transport in a car?
I have watched all your videos. All the way back to your asw28 days. Did you get the flap around working on the UMX twin otter? I sent you a link
Great but scary video! Be safe!
Great video! One of the reasons I just took delivery of an SUS. However, mine appears to be slightly different in that it has one extra connector coming from the receiver. it sits next to the wing servo connector and has a yellow wire. Does anyone know what this connector is for?
On that plane you can very easily unplug 2 of the motor wires while working on the bench with it. Way easier than pulling the prop off or stitching your arm back together with dental floss. Not all planes are that easy to unplug though.
What prop size would you suggest for slower and more controllable aerobatics?
If that was an Adam & Eve box, MAD respect to Camera Crew. 😏😏
Hello Brian and Megan. I have a quick question. Will you be putting out another video on the Slow Ultra Stick, adding the second wing servo with programming for flapperons and maybe crow? I look forward to all your new videos. Thanks!!!
Nice expliquecion y very nice video
Here at Brian's RC we just put them together....why is there an extra cable?????....mmmm... Oh yeah ailerons....thanks, camera crew. I guess we know who puts them together there at Brians RC..lol
Did you ever change out your prop to a slow flyer one? Length and pitch?
I am new to RC planes and I am only 7 minutes in but if the plane can go as slow as 5 mph on it own, do you need flaperons? Hope this is not a dumb question
Reminds me of a Naked Aeroscout without a pusher prop, seems like a pretty cool airplane simple design, wouldn't it be interesting if they came out with 4s capable Aeroscout or something with a more powerful pusher prop design
That would be cool! I'd like to see a bigger one myself.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I have the same aeroscout I bought when they were first released, thousands of flights , same prop landing gear only 1 servo replaced, it's a tough Bird !
You must have taped this a long time ago as you now use NX10!
Brian, I need some advise. I'm getting back into it after about 20 years, kids are gone, lol. I need a good recommendation on plane and xmtr. I was looking at the NX8 but you're going to the NX 10 now. Would the 8 be okay to fly with for a long time, or should I pull the trigger on the 10 and have it for the rest of my life lol. I'm going to buying everything again, plane, xmtr, batt, chgr, etc. I was into the Balsa gassers but elects seem so much easier to work with. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
NX8 is GREAT, but if you KNOW you're gonna get the "bug" again, you might as well just get the NX10. They're both expensive, but if you go with NX8 and then NX10, it will take a lotta planes to make up for that choice...
The TRICK is knowing if you'll stay addicted. One plane with 9 to 10 channels will make it all worth while, and keep in mind, using an 8 channel Rx with SAFE and/or AS3X means you'll be using upwards of 10 channels.
NX8 bit.ly/3Ou7Fmk
NX10 bit.ly/3RGCgR6
OR
iX14 bit.ly/3JESqsb
iX20 bit.ly/3B86ndJ
OR something else... Tx bit.ly/3J05xSj
You will never look back and think, I WISH I had saved $100 on this Tx...I have NEVER second guessed ANY Tx, and we've had a lot of them.
Up to about 150 profiles in my NX10 now, and I can say, MOST of them would have worked in the NX8, to be totally clear, but even the 3-4 planes I had to skip out on channels made life very hard for us.
NOW, with the 10, I can finally get a few of these planes done!
Yeah I started on the Hobbico Avistar many years ago. Had a Super Sportster too and loved flying them. I guess it was late 90s and early 2000s. The glow/gas/nitro planes were always a pain in the butt lol. I just got back into it too and it's great to be flying again. I love Brian Phillips and RC Saylors too. I have the NX8, UMX Night Vapor, Sport Cub S2, and I had the UMX Timber X but didn't like how it flew so I sold that one lol. It just felt super unstable. This Slow Ultra Stick looks great and super simple. Just wish this one had lights. I love that they put LEDs in a lot of these now. I like simple because it should last a long time and easier to fix and everything. Electric has come so far and I think is way better then the nitro planes. Although I think some people are still really into the gas/nitro planes.
Is this plane a go or no go for a park flier?
do you know if i could use a spektrum dxs dsmx 2,4 transmiter with this plane
Sure can!
I think that television should be larger also!
Brian, could you please show how to bind the DXS transmitter to the SU Stick so that SAFE is functional please? I bought this from your affiliate link after hearing you say that this plane can use the aeroscout controller. It was able to bind easily and all the control surfaces work perfectly but I don’t have SAFE, and I definitely need safe.
Oh man, I know it CAN be done, but haven't done it personally, so unfortunately we can't walk through step by step. I'd recommend going to bprc.me/DXS and looking at the manual and help documents. I know that's probably not the answer you wanted, but you CAN do it and you'll probably learn a lot of helpful things along the way.
You should do the bison from motion rc, looks like a nice plane but I am concern about the quality
Wish MotionRC would work with us, but they don't want to do it. I spoke with Wes and we've got the door cracked, but they'd rather go after Truck guys, since then they can sell ONE B2 to a thousand guys, and make sure they NEVER come back to the hobby - more than slightly infuriating...
@@BrianPhillipsRC That is very disappointing, they have some cool planes on their page but no reviews on youtube.
BRW I like your in depth reviews, very helpful and I have bought 3 or 4 planes after watching, I even get excited when I like the plane, next one will probably be the FMS Maule or the Eflite Turbo timber.
Could this carry a decent payload like a high quality wireless camera?
Probably. Just gotta get it at the CG.
do they offer an RTF version?
im looking for an easy to fly stable slow flyer.
Not right now, to try to be compliant with RID (Remote ID - it's a bunch of BS from the federal government). Sorry to report this Mark, but probably only going to be offered in BNF (Bind and Fly) which means you'll have to purchase the plane and battery and transmitter separately. It's super annoying, but it's a way for Horizon Hobby to stay compliant, without major changes, as RID rolls out soon.
If you want to buy planes, and you KNOW you're here to stay (in the hobby) then just bite the bullet, and get yourself an NX8 or NX10 - if you like watching our channel, it'll be here to help you setup your transmitter for all sorts of amazing planes (we have about 1700+ videos already for you now - long format content too, not just 30 second clips...).
Tx bit.ly/3J05xSj
@@BrianPhillipsRC wow thank you for all of that information.
doing more research based on it.
hello Brian! I have a question ! it's about the fms asw 17 ! the little bag with two pushrods' and four screw's, one of the pushrod is a little bit thicker than the other one, where I have to put the thicker one ? on the rudder or the horizontal stabilizers! they don't talk about in the manual ! you have to pay attention but there is a difference ! thank you Brian ! by the way nice videos !
Hey Mike, I have the FMS ASW-17, I never noticed a difference in thickness of the 2 rods and will check next time she comes out of her box for flying but I’d what to put the thicker rod on the elevator for sure, much more force on the elevator compared to the rudder.
@@howiedenton2709 that's make senses! thank you buddy ! I really appreciate your answer ! thank you to help me !
@@howiedenton2709 that's make senses ! thank you buddy ! I really appreciate your answer !
Good luck with the ASW-17 Mike, it’s great flyer, hand launching something that big is super fun..!!
@@howiedenton2709 thank you ! My friend ! For sure I will enjoy this super glider ! I'm a little bit nervous but it's normal ! It's one of the hobby parts ! 🤣💙👍✈️
You are funny as f ,the orange stripes. That is true about the transmitter price.
Lots of capabilities with simplicity. Better if price point was about $30 less. I’m sure several will not care for it. If you don’t? Then don’t buy it. Let the others enjoy it. Thanks for the video.
Camera crew needs her own flying vedo
Very nice!
I am curious, what is the wing chord measurement?
Thanks,
Stan
I watched this whole video and i have to tell you it scared me ,! everything sounds so complicated to figure out just what you are talking about ! way too many terms to find out if it will fly ?
It takes some time to get where you want to be. Just take it one plane at a time, and you'll get there. I felt the same way about 10 years ago when I started flying RC planes, and I can tell you it's not easy, and it's not without lots of effort, but it's very rewarding. Start today, and you'll be where you want to be quicker, than if you wait.
Good luck, and stay with us...we'll help you out!
I never understood the prices of all the slow sticks
Y'all should gift an airplane every once in a while to your subs, you have so many of them and once in a while wouldn't hurt, love the channel tho, j/s
How can I get 3 settings for safe select on this plane.
1. Safe
2. AS3X only
3. All off
Thanks in advance
You CAN! We have a video REDOING this plane with Flapperons....you don't have to do flapperons, but you can add THREE STEPS for SAFE, AS3X, and OFF
We do this all the time on other planes, but you need to Factory Reset the Rx, and then treat it like a PNP.
Have you ever seen another of our Unbox, Build, Radio Setups, were we assign the mode to the "D" switch, with AS3X at the top, OFF in the middle, and SAFE on the bottom...just follow that setup.
Depending on your Rx in your Slow Ultra Stick you can TRY to just factory reset the thing from the FORWARD PROGRAMMING, but you MIGHT NEED THIS if you don't see the option, so you can upgrade firmware to latest and greatest - USB to PC Programming SPMA3065 TX/RX USB Programming Cable bprc.me/SPMA3065
Now, you just have to make a FLIGHT MODE, and make assignments like we've done a million times (example - P-51 1.45m - czcams.com/video/lnzUfTsZHQ8/video.html (This is where the Radio Setup starts...you will have just reset your rx, then just do the same, only leave out flaps)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Wow! Thanks for the reply. I will certainly look at that recording. I would say that's HUUUGE! haha We appreciate you and your family for all you do and the time you take to help us all in this great hobby.
HH put the AR630. Are the rest of the channels blocked ?
Are you talking about for flapperons? I'm adding them, but just waiting on the parts to show up...need another servo
@@BrianPhillipsRC I’m talking anything you want to use the extra channels for. I have several bnf and I can’t use the extra channels. I have to buy a cord from HH and run it through a PC to unlock them. Did HH stop locking the RX. I’d be more interested if I can use the extra channels without having to unlock them.
So serious, 😂
Great video today sir
I agree with Dale. Is this a joke? For $200 they could have provided a real fuselage!!! Definitely a miss….
My god, you got one hour and 27 minutes out of this?
Are any of your flying machines registered ?
None of mine are ,
My policy: When all else fails, read directions!
You should’ve read the instructions before assembly the stick!! It’ll be helpful not to make couple mistakes on video.
We don't always have them when we do early releases, and sometimes when we do, they've still got typos and mistakes in the manual.
Your a bit quick on flicking switches and scrolling, almost like David Copperfield
First!!!
Should always stay behind the ailerons hold the front plane and prop away from body parts and forward! Never let the prop face you! Never let hands, face or body remain in front of or in the arc of prop! Super terrible dangerous handling the aircraft ! You are holding the airplane with your body parts in the arc of the prop!
Do u call your wife camera crew when your on bed?
Oh come on Horizon, what a piece of junk for $200! Should have left this thing on the container ship, return to sender please! I guess once in a while Horizon swings and misses, so much other great offerings from your awesome company. Hope the next release is better? Note: This is not a paid un-endorsement for this product, strictly my own personal opinion not meant to harm any feelings. ❤😂
I think it's cool but is it $200 cool 🤔 HELL NO 🤣 Maybe $125 $150 tops. Can't believe they only used 1 servo for the elrond's, 🤦 lol
I think at $200 it’s that realisation that all is lost
@@EJ-74 I challenge anyone to bring to market their version of the "SUS" and have it priced at $125 with receiver, motor, servos, esc. Good luck with that, The SUS has an $80 receiver in already!
Love your stuff Brian, just not feeling it with this plane. HH could make anything and this is what they chose, sad just sad. There are some many great war birds out there they are begging to be made, and this is what they waste their time and money on. Sad.
