One of the most frustrating and difficult parts of font design for me was kerning. But with these techniques, it really helped me to space and kern my fonts quickly without tying myself in kerning pairs knots!
Making certain glyphs a master makes changing multiple side bearings on many glyphs super quick and consistent.

@@AdamGreasley Agreed! This is my second font ever created and I'm getting the overwhelming feeling of too much kerning. I'm kind of stuck and not sure what to do at this point. Mind offering me some advice? I'm about 3/4 the way finished on my font. I know I have a good bit of kerning left to do since I haven't kerned my lowercase multilingual's yet and I'm wondering if I should start over? To be completely honest I have 2156 kernings and a total of 203 glyphs. Do you think if I started over I can drop that number down drastically? I was worried about file size, but as of now my font is only 20KB. All I have left is to kern my lowercase multilingual's, punctuation, and symbols. I'm just wondering if my kerning is WAY OVERBOARD or if that is normal. I'm probably tweaking this way too much bc I look at every single letter comparison to each other. I would die for some help here!!! I can't wait to try grouping on my next font. Also, have you ever thought about creating a font course? You should! I bought a hand lettering course, so I'm using that as a baseline for what I'm doing now with this serif font.
Hi @@stacyterry4012 Kerning groups would almost certainly help to reduce the number of pairs you have. 2156 seems a lot for a for with 203 glyphs. As a comparison, my new serif font Gather Serif (wearecolt.com/product/gather-serif/) has 522 glyphs and only has 149 pairs because of the kerning groups. Your multilingual (assuming they are euro languages) should be able to use the kerning from their base glyph, e.g; à á â ä, etc can share the kerning group of a.

Would you do a video on how to anchor diacritics in Glyphs?
I absolutely will. Building glyphs with linked diacritics is a huge time saver.
Brilliant idea, and I can see why this would be a huge pain to do manually, and even worse if you have extra fonts with accented characters and what-not. Yikes. It would be great if there could be some sort of scripted action to do this automagically for you.
Thanks Steven. Kerning groups are always the better option, you end up tying yourself in knots if you have too many kerning pairs. I think there are some scripts or plugin to help with kerning but its not something I've looked into.
Cool, thanks for the video! Do you find using the H and the O are enough for adding side bearings, or do you need to use other letters for that part of the process?
Thanks John. It depends on the font style, if the shape of the H and O are similar to others I’ll tend to use the side bearing and kerning values.
What are your thoughts on the plug-in KERN ON?
I haven’t used it, from what I’ve read it sound pretty decent.
