Once in a very great while the extraordinary thoroughbred comes to the fore as the brightest, and most spectacular, and most personable of his era. That horse still is, ten years later, THAT horse is California Chrome. The fairytale horse, with the tremendous personality and rare handsomeness, and intelligence, that sets himself from all the others. Chrome knew that he WAS special, because he was treated special with the people that populated his world. And, it showed!! Art Sherman, and his Team, and Victor Espinosa were the perfect fit for this incredible horse, and boy, did it ever show! And the belief of his two owners, who had never even had a horse, nor bred a horse for this purpose, all new, but full of moxie, and belief in this one in a million horse, and ten years ago, it all came to fruition, and the fairytale was made tangible, with his win of the 2014 Kentucky Derby. And the birth of his own people, The Chromies, who positively believed in him, and adored him; and his Team. Once you were really “Chromed”; that was it, you were Chromed for life. And what a pleasant “state to be a part of his world”; and 10 years later, I STILL am. And HE is NOW “living in the Hall of Fame, where everybody does know his name”, since 2023; and we all knew that this fantastic horse deserved to be there. He came a long, long, way since the Kentucky Derby, and his Story is far, far, from being over. Just stand back; and watch, you’ll see……….. ❤️🏇🍀🐴

I was at this Derby and had a great view of the wire at ground level. I saw him coming head on for the last 150 yards or so. He came completely off the ground as he galloped. It was like watching a bouncing ball. California Chrome had plenty left in the tank as he crossed the finish line.
