    You’re so good at explaining prizes. I find most people assume the viewer knows and maybe that’s why they’re there. But Fraser doesn’t know! Before Booktube all I knew was the Pulitzer and the Canadian ones. And the Pulitzer video actually explained a lot of things I didn’t know about that either.
    Such a great video and structure :)

    • @Shellyish
      @Shellyish  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! The structure comes from college classes. I really dislike pretending everyone is on the same page. All to write is that I find introducing a prize, idea, list is just as important as talking about the thing itself. Plus, it helps me stay focused which is tremendously difficult for me sometimes. ;)

    I just added Mel Fell to my list to buy for when the grandbabies are here!!! I have Sophie’s new book (Farmhouse) on preorder because I just know I am going to love it!
    I got to read to my nieces and nephews while on our move and I have missed reading aloud with wee ones!
    Thanks for all the research and letting us join in the fun finds!

    I like the graffiti style of _Double Bass Blues._ I think my favorite styles from this selection are _The Rough Patch_ and _Hello Lighthouse._

    I can’t wait to get grandchildren so I can buy books for them by the dozen each month like my mom did for my 3 children. The twins first and then my daughter.

    Excellent video Shelly! Another picture book award you may want to checkout is the Irma Black Award, which is presented by Bank St. College of Education. It’s actually the only one voted on by kids and is for both the writing and illustrations as a whole and very much about enjoyment and readability in pictures and words that is embraced by children. It makes it great for interaction with child readers.

    Ok..now I wish I had kids to gift them these😂. No worries, I will gift it to nephews and nieces. Your boys are so super cute ❤️. I have always believed that picture books and comics are a great way to get children involved in reading. In India, we used to have weekly magazines which used to have comic strips and stories and God knows how many children of my generation were attracted to the world of reading due to them. I want to do a small video about that someday. Great video, Shelly..

    Watercress and Undefeated also won Newbery honors. I like that Newbery looks at picture books too for the stories they tell. Which were your children's favorites other than Mell Fell?

    • @Shellyish
      @Shellyish  Před 2 lety +1

      Katie, I'll definitely look into the Newbery picture book awards. I'm interested in both illustrations and stories. My kiddos really like Bear Came Along, Wonder Walkers, and The Rough Patch.
