    Awesome information. Thanks! I was able to knock this out in about 3 1/2 hours. A real mechanic, probably faster. BTW, I saw someone comment that you don’t have to cut the groove and to just use a snap ring pliers. It isn’t a snap ring. It’s just a C ring and you do have to cut the groove. You can’t get it out otherwise. Cutting the groove is easy with a Dremmel. Just go slow and steady and stop at the groove. I ended up with a little slag after my cut that impinged my groove a little, just scrape it down. with a razor or a small screw driver. I also had to spray a little silicone or wd40 on the ring to get it to rotate. I didn’t have a compressor, so I used a can of spray silicone and held the housing upside down over a bucket to kind of “ rinse” the broken pieces of o-ring out. Great video. This guy knows his stuff. Saved me a ton of money. Thanks again!

    Well Done! Great and accurate step by step. Easy job and worked like a charm. Getting the retaining ring back in took a few tries, but anybody should be able to do this job...just be careful when cutting the groove. Metal is very soft so you don't need a lot of pressure.

    Amazing video! Thank you! I just bought mine and the guy who sold it to me clearly hid the fact that this is a problem with mine. The fluid is leaking from the passenger corner, and I see it streaking rear passenger side window and after raising the roof like 4-5 times my reservoir is completely empty, hopefully i didnt burn anything out. Can you please tell me where the bleeder valve is? Also now that it's empty, what is the best course of action to take? what if I have air in the other lines? I wish I had seen this before I realized my reservoir was about to be empty. This has me SO stressed out it's not funny. I hope I didn't burn anything out and I hope this does the job. I bought the O ring kit, the fluid... I am wondering why the fluid is going to the passenger side instead of the driver's side??? In any case, THANK YOU so much for making this video!!!!

    • @velocirapture
      @velocirapture Před rokem

      I finally solved the problem. The latches were not adjusted well and were preventing the roof from being pulled back. I had to re-adjust everything. And then, I did something very silly I broke the tip of the front right guide pin and that caused the roof to go up all the way, but then the trunk would stay open and the pump would run and run. I didn't know I broke it, but I checked the area and the switch. I then stuffed a section of ziptie shaped like U in there and the guide pin finally tripped the switch and the whole cycle completed. So working on repairing that. I will then be done except for my experiment I am about to make, cleaning the roof liner with what may be the only product in the world that will work. I will post an update on that later this week.

      If your pump is not working, start with the easiest things then move to the more complex. check the relay on the side of the pump, or just change it, it's cheap. If that doesn't fix it check for leaks. You said you just topped off your fluid, you shouldn't need to do that unless you have a leak. If you find a leak, you'll need to replace or rebuild the leaking cylinder(s).

    Good Day Mr Hightower, I wanted to ask if you could help by guiding me to a possible resolution. I have had a 1999 SLK230 for about a year now and have invested in some repairs. Yet I'm having an issue that involves the check engine light coming on sporadically and when it appears the engine does slows down drastically and feels as if it doesn't want to drive. I've had a reputable local shop take many looks into the issue yet no real resolution. I've had replaced the MAF sensor, fuel injectors replaced, and many other replacements as well, yet I still have the sporadic no cel then after running the slk230 for a few days or hours with no speed or driving issues then back to the cel appearing and slowed speeds and having to apply gas pedal to the floor and maybe getting 30 - 40 mph. Any chance you've seen this in the past and any suggestions for a resolution? Any assistance would be appreciated Thanks 🙏🏿

    • @Engineerboy100
      @Engineerboy100  Před 2 lety +1

      Try recalibrating the throttle. Just turn the key on until you hear the fuel pump, but don't start the engine.eave the key in this on position for about 5 minutes. Then turn the key off. Remove the key. Then put the key back in, start the car and take it for a test drive and let me know what you experience.

      @@Engineerboy100 Good Day Mr. Hightower. I gave it a go with the recalibration on the throttle and unfortunately it was not successful. In May 2022 I had both coil 9acks replaced and all wires were replaced as well as the spark plugs were tested and all were in great condition. When the car runs it runs perfectly and the cel light does not appear at all times, the out of nowhere the cel will appear and then the car gets hesitant, slows down drastically almost to a ful lshut off. At times I may start the car and "no cel" run the car and then at times the car starts with the "cel on the dash gauge" and shake as if it's a spark plugs or tune up". Yet as previously stated the spark plugs are all fine and are Bosch spark plugs. I've seen on MB blogs online that this has happened to others with the same model of car (SLK230) yet I have yet to find any real resolution online as to a remedy. Again any help or guidance would be great. Thanks
