I love my twin Suzuki DF140! So quiet, very reliable, parts are really affordable, easy maintenance, very good fuel efficiency. My Yamaha was great too but more expensive to maintain but still very reliable. My friend's Mercury died out in the ocean several times and had to be towed. Lots of sensor problems, difficult to maintain, expensive parts, and in and out of the shop. Zukes are the best in my opinion!

My prop is a stainless steel 3x15x17L. Tomorrow I'll try a 3x15x23L prop that I borrowed, I think that'll be more suited for my lightweight boat. The motor itself is very quiet and runs very smoothly. I love it :-)
What size transom you got there haggis and whats the dimensions of your boat i got a 20x6 flat bottom with a 20 transom i want to mount this motor to my boat please respond id like to know
@@edwardabrahamiii3742 I don't know the exact dimensions of my transom. All I know is that it's a 5.50 meter boat. It's officially rated for 135hp max and I think that's also considering a 2 stroke so I've already put a bit too much engine on my transom :-) Result is that my boat is now a bit more sternheavy but it's not too bad. I don't recommend doing the same as I did though and just stick with your max. allowed weight. That being said, I do believe the DF175 and DF150 are about the same weight so maybe you could go for the 175 instead. Not entirely sure though. I think manufacturers should also state a max engine weight and not just max HP output as some engines weigh less than others while putting out more HP's. It can be a bit confusing at times. But I'm happy with my DF150. 3x15.5x23L was a bit too much prop for my boat by the way, I've ordered a 3x15.5x20L and I think that's going to be the sweet spot for me. I did get higher top end with the 23 but my rpms dropped to low 5000's and holeshot was a bit weak.
Here is one other cool thing about these engines. They are so quiet, as idle, that people will get in, and try to turn the key, not realizing it is already running. But Suzuki thought of that, they installed a block of some sort (don't know the mechanics of it) so you can't do any damage, you can "grind it" if you make that mistake. That is called superior engineering. What I don't know-is, are they are reliable in the long run as a Honda--they might be, I don't know But I sure like them, have seen them in the ocean running side by side with me and my Yamaha.
Cant speak personally as to reliability over time as I don't do enough hours, but I can say that a lot of the commercial and government boats use Suzuki (as well as Yamaha).

One thing to note is that Suzuki outboards love to be run hard. They are known to build up carbon deposits due to unburnt fuel. To prevent this, make sure you run that engine hard at high RPM for a decent period of time.
Absolutely, need to lift the hull off the water and get the prop up a bit. Gains revs and top speed. May be different, if your boat is setup for offshore use, it will be mounted lower, so you will likely gain trim angle but may not get the motor up much.

Mate, hard to say. There are lots of 18 footers pushing 60 with 150s. You may be better off with something with a slimmer gearbox like a merc or a yamaha SHO.
The suzuki 150 is the heaviest 150 of all the other 150s other then the honda 150 but i want the suzuki it also holds so much oil 8.5 quarts thats alot 2 gallons ans half a quart
@@edwardabrahamiii3742 Yeah I know, I meant: you would need a small racing hull to get 80 mph with a 150hp so it's more likely that @tigesinaus is talking about km/h. 80mph is something around 133km/h which is pretty fast in a boat, especially with a 150hp. I'm sorry if I misunderstood what you're saying. I'm from the Netherlands and English is therefore not my first language.

@@lukasq21 it’s to do with resistance through the water. Unlike a car which is rolling on fairly firm tyres, a boat has to displace and move through the water - doing that at speed takes a lot of energy.
It is a popular outboard from a solid manufacturer that is well rigged, nicely propped, and singing its song near the redline. If you are not a boat guy, you will never get it, but thats the beauty of the internet, and there are clearly a lot of people on here that GET it.
@@tigesinaus lol 'boat guy' thats funny. Well I've had seven boats five of them had outboards. I get what you're saying, it's a well-designed motor set up, got it.... I was thinking it was maybe some a special motor maybe supercharged or something but thanks for the response.
@@edwardabrahamiii3742 Yeah that converts to 15 and a bit feet, close to 16. It was propped pretty aggressively though, just loose a few numbers in pitch and it will push your 20 foot no worries.
Best outboard motor I have ever owned…hands down. Fuel efficiency is amazing and it purrs like a kitten.
When I get a pontoon suszuki is what I am going to choose. Had Mercury's. I believe suzuki is a much better motor all around.

I'm trying to figure out what prop to buy for the Ranger 375V (17'10") I bought last week... It has a 1990 Evinrude XP150 2 stroke on it...

I was told the max motor i can mount is a 150 but the suzuki 150 is the heaviest 150 but i want to mount it to my boat
