Friends, remember to use a vent hood or use a respirator mask. It's not a good idea to breathe too much burnt flux. I used to solder in a poorly ventilated area and got very painful pleurisy for several days (turns out I'm sensitive). And remember to wash your hands if using solder containing lead.

    • @TheCrafsMan
      @TheCrafsMan  Před 6 lety +61

GOOD POINTS, sir! I should have included a segment in the video about respirators. In all of the soldering videos I've seen, I've never seen anyone using a mask, but I did end up getting a mask for when I'm in the shop soldering for long periods at a time. I edited my description to include links to the mask and cartridges I use.

    Hi,
    Just subscribed!
I love doing metal art and have done many, many pieces out of copper, brass and steel.
When I retired I started making sterling silver jewelry and even cutting my own semi -precious stones to set.
As time went on my eyes started to fail but I didn't want to stop doing something I love to do,,,work with metal.
I searched to find someone I could learn from to make pieces that were not as "intricate" as making jewelry settings and found exactly what I was looking for!A man named George Goehl!
He has tons of free videos on CZcams and also instructional CD's that you can buy very cheap!
As you know,,,silver soldering is a form of brazing and brazing with bronze rods is much cheaper then buying silver solder. The only difference is that brazing takes more heat. So,,,I started brazing a few pieces and then after viewing more of Georges videos learned how to gas weld and how to fuse steel.
I've gotten away from doing my metal art and you are just the inspiration I needed to get back at it again!
You are a VERY talented/smart man and I thank you for just being you!
If you would like to see a few of Georges videos here's a link to his CZcams videos. It won't cost you anything but time and you may like what you see as I did!
    gsegmedia.com/?page_id=2877

I hope you enjoy Georges videos as I did.
One of the easiest and most fun pieces is a "round to it".
People always say,,,,when I get around to it,,,so you hand them one of these!
I made this one out of steel coat hangers!

Terrific! I thought I'd need a MIG welder to this! I've always admired seeing "nuts & bolts" sculptures and thought I'd enjoy making them.
I've an O2 tank and acetylene tank, along with the associated gauges, and torches, which, in the past, I've using for brazing copper shapes (e.g. butterflies, mayflies) al la George Goehl (also on YT), but your very well demonstrated use of silver solder is such an easier process of (small) metal joinery.
    Again, TERRIFIC!!

"Where the Heat Goes, The Silver Flows!" should be a Legal Maxim, or a Psalm, a Proverb, a Amateurverb (not errbody verbs is Pro-quality) or a Fable. Maybe a Parable or just a Singleble would do. I just think it makes enough sense to get it in out of the rain. Oughta be engraved on a Courthouse or Pew or something. Its dog gone brilliant in my book. Well done.

Fan theory: The Crafsman is actually a hero, after a terrible battle with their nemesis, destructo, battle which left the crafsman barely alive and badly scarred and disfigured (which is why we never see their face), the crafsman retreated to a cabin hidden in the woods to perfect the art of craftsmanship and build a mighty weapon capable of taking on destructo.

The life and movement in your sculptures is amazing. I love the one that looks like it is running. Polymer clay that I bake in my toaster oven is my favorite medium for now (I like that it's easy to sculpt and not death-defying to cure) but I have a secret hankering to do silver sauntering in order to make silver jewelry. So you give me inspiration here that maybe I can work with metal, too. As usual, you've made another beautiful video. Thanks, CrafsMan!
