I wish some makeup ''gurus'' would watch your videos cause the amount of makeup that they show in their 'makeup collection' videos is seriously insane and I think for the audience that watches those videos which is mostly teenage girls it's got to be harmful. I find myself watching those videos and getting anxiety just from looking at the amount of makeup and money spent on the items that they will most likely will never in their whole lives be able to use up, and worse, they will continue to buy and buy more. They are truly makeup hoarders but instead of realizing it's a problem they just glorify their obsession and feed it to other people who will watch their videos and will feel crap about not being able to ever afford that amount of makeup. I love makeup and I am trying to become a makeup artist myself but for that reason I try to be careful with what I buy and the way I spend my money. I love your videos because they are really helpful in that way. They help me realize that I can't get carried away with the stuff I'm constantly bombarded with from youtubers who clearly have a problem with hoarding makeup. I thank you for these videos and the constant effort. Honestly to know that you kept so much stuff for so long (I see how it's so easy to get obssesed with such pretty items) but was able to let go from them is very inspiring! Anyway keep up the good work! :)
then dont watch the videos..... some ppl collect rocks, at least makeup gets some type of use.
i dont.
manedrain I didnt take your comment as telling people what to do... sure, we all make our own choices but I, like you, wish that people of influence would realize the extent of their influence.
I used to have a rolling train case full of makeup... when I think about the amount of money that I spent on makeup that I didnt use and could NEVER use up in a lifetime it sickens me. Its a journey though and I agree to each his or her own.
Some people (emilynoel83) are using their makeup collection constantly, as they're always reviewing and testing new stuff out. But so many beauty gurus don't even do that much with makeup, but have gigantic collections!
I think it's great that you're trying to use up your makeup and get down to what you think you actually need/will use. Here on CZcams there are so many beauty CZcamsrs that are promoting quite the opposite leaving many followers thinking that more is better. In reality most of their makeup will end up expiring before it's used up and that's just money in the trash...
I love love this video over any other video for makeup!! Simplicity is key!! I watch so many that have do much make up!! The cost and how can anyone use up that much makeup!! I feel my money gets used up when I know exactly what I have! The money I save is awesome! I hate being overwhelmed!! This was wonderful!! Back to Basics!! ~krista
Your voice is so relaxing, I am falling asleep watching this video!
So am I!
You have done such an excellent job Christine! Wonderful collection and you are almost there. Such and inspiration to make-up hoarders. Big Hugs
Christine - these inventory/cut back/cleanout videos are so inspirational. I used to live a simple life and now have so much 'stuff'. You have inspired me that I am going to do an inventory and really be cognizant of cutting back and using up. I don't know if I am brave enough like you are to do this on camera or not but, I will do it. Thanks so much for the inspiration ♥ Elle
.Im always right behind ya...lol. Too bad we didnt live in the same locale. lol We could share a margarita while we trail each other. HA! Plus..I bet YOU arent getting positively dumped on right now. lo.. Everytime you say you're going to send me warm weather...I wake up to a foot more snow Elle. Stop that..would ya? lol
I loved your makeout 2013 series! It was a nice reality check for me and I got rid of nearly 2 large garbage bags full of makeup. I'd say I've dwindled my entire makeup collection down to about 10% of what it used to be.The collection is small enough to actually organize everything and display it on my dresser top so I can see everything I own in one glance :)
Your videos are not boring. They are inspiring. I've gone thru my collection and started letting go of A LOT. I gave away about 20 single elf eye shadows to another makeup lover. It makes me feel good when they go to a good home. Like a puppy. Lol. It's silly but that's what obsessions are...ridiculous. Now I'm about to move and I'm so embarrassed that my friends will see what I still have. I've got to let go of more stuff until I'm not ashamed.
This is my most awaited video from you! You're a great example for other beauty gurus here because the gigantic collections are nothing to brag about; it's exactly what you call it, a waste of money. Hope you inspire other people to do this or at least open their eyes!
I absolutely love this! I'm forever watching makeup collection videos and lusting after their 100's of products, but this video really put things into perspective!! Wow. I'm 100% going tot start doing this, just to keep myself and my obsession in check!
I don't have an inventory, except for my nail polishes, those are way too much (but I justify because of the different colors). I also have too many eyeshadows but I rotate them and like to have options. My collection is similar to yours (except I don't own a single blush) but I have stopped getting makeup and allowing only re-purchases and 2 special items for my birthday and christmas. I really like these videos, makes me want to reconsider my collection.
I was waiting for your makeup inventory! So thank you for doing it. It is great to see your thinking and how things have changed for you over the last few years. I really enjoyed your declutter vlogs. Would love to see one of the garage sales you sell some of your things at too!
hey Christine it not boring, I found it helpful as it keeps me on my goal of not having too many make-up, and I love make-up.
I only have one concealer, one foundation, one powder, one mascara, and two eyeliners (a mac pencil liner for my water line and a jordana felt tip liner for my lid). I have maybe 10 lipsticks, no lipglosses (I'm allergic to something they put in lipglosses so I can never wear them), and I don't wear eyeshadow. My weakness is definitely nail polish... I have about 100. In my defense, I do paint my nails about 2 or 3 times a week.
Congrats on the progress! My weakness is buying up too many backups of a product I like and fear will be taken off the market. This is silly because makeup has a shelf life, and also because there are so many dupes, with more popping up all the time. By the way, I think you could be a hand model! Gorgeous hands.
Girl you continue to inspire me! I love that you did a comparison to last year :) You are doing an amazing job!!
Steph xo
Great job! I'm so impressed that you carried though with your goal. :))
amen
All my makeup use to be in one small bag, till I started watching CZcams. So divided it, bought clear quart size plastic travel bags at Walmart (so I can see what I have) all lipsticks in one, foundation, blush and bronzer, eye shadow, eye pencils, divided up into about 7 bags. now every time I think I need something I look at bags. Goal is to get back to fitting all back into one bag again. So far it's working for me. I also live in small cottage on Oahu, and am enjoying your decorating and organizing videos. Have been downsizing and minimizing.
This is such an awesome idea, this is why I love your channel. I'm going to collect my inventory as well, lets just say my lipstick and blush inventory is above what's needed....lol
I absolutely love these videos! They inspire me to live more simply. I just wrote in my planner to inventory my makeup this weekend too :) I stopped buying makeup about a year ago, but I need to go through what I still have and either plan to use it up, throw it out or re-home it. Thank you for sharing Christine!
this year I am trying to focus on what I have. my goal is to not buy something right away but if I still want it a few weeks later then, within reason, I'll allow myself to get it. it certainly helps me buy less :) xo Sarah
The mirror makes it look like there's 2x as much lol
Hey Christine! Love this, so proud of you. I am inspired but from a different perspective. I am relatively new to learning about and collecting beauty products but this will remind me not to over purchase, and one goes in one must go out! Or wait to buy until you use one up.
Love watching your home and garden blossom! We have similar color palettes as well as using white, clean lines, fresh! And of course that great Tiffany blue or Clinique green, etc. Here is an idea for you. Our bedroom has white walls, love high gloss in the bathroom. This way I can change accents to suit seasons, my mood, fashion trends, etc. I collect quilts and adore gorgeous linens both new and antique. When I see a bed linen set that I love but can't afford, I just buy the pillow cases! Those, used with neutral linens, or color coordinated ones, allow me to have all kinds of beautiful outfits for my bed. The cases on the bed, of course, or tied with ribbon on one end as decorative pillows/cushions. Single, double or whatever sheets make great curtains, chair covers, or to top an old lampshade. Pardon the babbling-see how you motivate!?!
I think the problem for me and probably for a lot of others is the whole idea of the quest and finding a new or different product that works better and out performs the previous. Then seriously next thing you know you have 20 eye shadows, 15 lipsticks, etc. etc.! I was always chasing that next magic product that was supposed to delivery more better and miracles. I'm so much better about buying and collecting than I used to be. I have worked on condensing and cutting back for about 3 years now. It is hard to do, but dang it can be done...!
Yesterday I got rid of a big bag of makeup, skin & hair care. I love these videos. Thank you for being such an inspiration!!! Your videos are more cherished than you know
I wish all beauty bloggers do the same !!! a lot of them have HUGE amount of make-up and it looks crazy...
I've waited weeks for this video! Thank you Christine for giving us a tour through your makeup stash :) Very well done!
i need to move to hawaii and hang with u. i get such positive energy from u. watching u and hearing u talk and just ur lifestyle in general its just so relaxing and positive and freeing. thats the word ...free.
I wasn't bored @ all watching this Christine, I admire you for down sizing. Some of the you tubers have literally thousands of dollars worth of make up & we all know darn well they could never use it in their life times.
Most famous Beauty Gurus didn't even buy half the products they own. These products get shipped to them from companies or sponsors. But I agree, the amount of makeup they own is not only insane but sickening and overwhelming. I'm glad that you changed your habit of buying excessive makeup. I find you very inspiring and somehow, your way of dealing with makeup now, makes me feel great and not disgusted or overwhelmed. Keep up the good work, girl. :)
I'm really impressed. I'll repeat another poster when I say, "Great job!" It's commendable you were able to just be honest with yourself and take an honest inventory. Inspiring! :)
You've totally inspired me to do a makeup inventory! I started using this app on my iphone called "My Make Up" where you can individually file every item you own, and take pictures of swatches, and categorize everything. It's really great, but SO time-consuming. I think I'm going to try your method.
I love your videos! I had a pinksofoxy marathon yesterday! My favorite is your " Day in the life" videos. I got married on " secret beach" Makena Cove ( 2 years ago), and we are coming back to Maui on vacation this July, I'm so excited to come by your booth and check out your jewelry! Can't wait to see more " Day in the life" videos!!!
Great video and I love this idea of "Inventory (Last Year)" and "Inventory (This Year" and "Inventory Goal". I'm not necessarily a pack rat when it comes to makeup. I purchase items, use them up, and then purchase new ones after they are finished. I do love that you have this organizational video up. I love hearing about your ways to budget, organize, and live simple. So inspiring and wonderful. Cannot wait for your next video!
OMG This is sor inspiring I started something like this too. But it's like the pro version. I wanna do it too. :) Thanks for sharing your tips and showing your results :)
I love this idea it's so refreshing and motivating to see someone on CZcams that is changing to a reasonable amount of items rather than having stuff just to have it :)
I've been waiting for this for a year! So much fun to watch! You did so good!!
Love your videos and your makeup inventory videos are very refreshing. You're taking control of an area of your life and want to hold yourself accountable. Good for you. It's sad to see the numerous makeup collections on CZcams that are clearly out of control. I firmly believe it is a type of hoarding. What's really sad are the number of teenagers and young adult females whose collections are staggering to behold. They are clearly influenced by older makeup "guru" CZcamsrs that have problems of their own. I have always set a limit to how many makeup products I allow myself to own. If I see something that I absolutely can't live without I make myself give up 1 item. And that rarely happens. I add the items to a wish list of must try products and buy from it after I have extensively researched it among other users. Giving myself time to research a product has saved me money on impulse buys that I would have made in the past that I wasn't happy with after I made the purchase.
i think it's pretty cool how you are different from the gurus here on CZcams. It's really interesting how the media wants us to buy more, but you show a beautiful lesson that sometimes, when we look at all of the stuff we have, we can get disgusted with ourselves.
thank you so much for sharing this with us, although you might feel self-conscious, know that we are here for you! love your videos and how unique you are :)
WOW!! You inspire me to really take a look at my makeup collection and seeing what I REALLY have. Good job, girl!!!!
Thanks for posting!!! Good job. After watching you last year I started writing down all makeup purchases to keep myself in check! Trying to keep it at 12 total purchases for this year.
Definitely not boring! In fact, I loved this video! Makes me think how many products I own and need to finish them up before I buy some more :)
I've been looking forward to this for aaaaages....was so excited to see it finally up! Love these videos, very addictive!
I was a lot younger when I had my moment of realization that I had far too much makeup. From that point on, I made a point to buy only what I needed and not just buy anything and everything. I think it's a great idea to do a makeup inventory. It helps keep us honest! It's good to see you getting your makeup collection down to something reasonable.
I've got an obsession with blush, bronser and highlighter too. That's why I have 4 blushes, 2 bronsers and 2 highlighters:))))))))) I think you continue in a right direction! Love your vids!
I've been looking forward to this video! Yes I've done an inventory - one of my main goals is to use up all of the foundations and primers that have been sitting around :) your videos are so inspiring, keep them coming xo
I love these types of videos you do! They really help put things into perspective. My inventory is somewhere between your current collection and your ideal collection. I'm higher on eyeshadows though. That's clearly my weakness. Thank you for doing these videos!
I love all your collection and how organized you are. I also loveeeeee the system you have going on to keep track of what you have. Great video I'm subscribing! !!!😉
This was actually so interesting to watch, and so inspiring to me to pair down my overgrown makeup collection. It's getting out of hand. Eyeshadows (esp palettes) are my jam.
Good job Christine. These videos are not boring, they are inspiring.
GREAT progress girl!! You have gone down in numbers SO much!! Keep it up because it's so inspiring!!
This is such a brilliant, inspiring video. I love it! I really wish more bloggers would watch this and do something like this to keep themselves from being disgustingly out of control - some of the so-called collections I've seen are not only massively oversized but so disorganized and cluttered, it's horrible. Personally, I've been building my stash so I have a good selection of products for work but I've had to work hard to make sure I don't get out of control & keeping a running list of what I have on my phone has really helped with that.
my inventory of my own collection: 3 lipsticks, 4 jumbo lipbalms, 5 lipglosses, 3 tinted lipbalms, 5 clear lipbalms, 3 eyeshadow palettes, 5 single eyeshadows, 1 powder, 1 foundation, 2 eyeshadow primers, 1 primer, 1 bronzer, 1 eyepencel (salmony color), 2 concealers, 2 eyebrow products (1 gel and 1 pencil), 1 mascara, 5 blushes, 4 highlighters! LOVED the video! Made me inspired♥ xo
Christine, this video was so helpful, I think it may tip me over to finally get my makeup collection in check! I love the list, and you have done such a great job of letting go! Thanks for sharing this vid with us!
I've been waiting for this video ever since you did the makeup inventory 2013. You inspire me! Love.
Awesome job on your continuous progression, Christine! Thanks for being you :) You've inspired me to also want to downsize in my life in general. I've made a detailed inventory of my makeup using MS Excel. On the first tab I have a Inventory of the numbers of all I have. One column is a starting point numbers of everything, second is my ideal/max numbers, and the last is my ongoing up to date numbers until December 2014. It really does help to continuously keep track of things. Looking forward to your next video, as always :)
This video is amazing! You did really good with your 2014 inventory!
You are the first that I've seen that has a video like this. Kudos!!!!
This is so inspiring. Vanity & room look wonderful! Looove your vids!
Great job girlfriend!!! That's so awesome! I wanna do an inventory and I tried but there are so many categories it's insane! I have cream blushes, cream shadows, palettes with multiple products (blushes, bronzers, shadows, liners and lippies), it so overwhelming!!!
I love videos like this! And I'm obsessed with your vanity!
Love this video! Good for you for reducing your makeup collection! You still have a fabulous collection!
Yes, I enjoyed the vid. I've been cutting down too. Kristin Gehm coined a great phrase "Product Overload". I've sure been feeling that. I did my first cleaning out and selling some and going to give some to the women's shelter like you did. Your vanity is so lovely and light looking. What a pleasure it must be to sit down there and play makeup! Hugs, Susan
Wow you do have open my eyes on how much I buy without even think if I need it or not (of course I don't need so much makeup!)
I'll use you idea of list.
And everytime I think I need to change my life, I just check your videos because you are an inspiration for me, so thank you Christine
I really need to do this. I don't even go in the room I keep all my makeup. I use what's in my makeup bag. So why hold on to it. You're so inspiring. I've been purging SO much stuff since watching your channel.
I am really loving your videos Christine. I have been a very busy girl just purging away on everything!
You have been such an inspiration! Just before watching your video i had made my mind up about purchasing "another" foundation (which i did not need), but managed to get a reality check just in time. I am definitely motivated to take an inventory of what i have. Thank you :)
I seriously love your inventories and declutter videos. it's super cool and inspiring to see a youtuber go through their makeup and donating it, instead of just hoarding it, and collecting so much they can never use it all. I'm a young adult, so I can't afford high end makeup, and have only drug store products and only a few at that! But I love your videos because it will motivate me to just go through my stuff and donate what I'm not using. I think its really cool you give away your makeup as gifts or to the women's shelter, instead of tossing it. =)
You are the voice of reason in the vast noise of "hauling." Bravo!
Excellent job! I'm super impressed!!! Loved this video!
I love watching these type of videos! Congrats on meeting some of your make-up goals. I have a addiction to lipstick. It is at 30 I believe. Except I want more! Lol I had to stop buying mascara. I got a bunch of sample sizes from Ipsy. I'm trying to use those up first before I buy anymore. I did a no buy beauty myself from Sept. 2013 to Feb. 2014 My husband gave me money to go shopping at Ulta. It was fun!
Yay for your progress!! I don't why but I'm actually proud of you Loll. I enjoyed this. You have a very sensible makeup collection. Keep up the good work!
Great job on reducing your inventory to what you love vs having so much you can't appreciate and enjoy. I have been on a crazy buying trend but am realizing I don't need all of this. Not ready to part with anything until I can give them all a good try to find my favs. However, you are inspiring! Thanks for sharing XXOO
I just took my very first makeup inventory... Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring! I absolutely love hanging out with you!
Very useful video! It really is helpful to see everything laid out and counted. I love the idea of carrying around a little card to with the tallies.
I love listening to the birds chirping in the background - spring will be here soon (I hope).
Well done!!! I'm so impressed with how much you've used/gotten rid of! I've been trying to slim down my makeup drawer too, but I did purchase a Physicians Formula Happy Booster blush after seeing how much you liked them here!
I'm so glad you make videos like these, you seriously inspired me to get rid of the make up I don't use anymore. I literally got rid of half my make up. I got so sucked in with all the hypes and raves, and now I'm just so over it now. I'm just going crazy selling all of my make up at yard sales lol I've already collected more than 500 dollars on all the make up that I've sold. I'm just so over it. And your videos are not boring I love them :) thanks
This is a great way to keep yourself in check! I'd love a video on how to organize your work/jewelry space. Thank u!
Bravo! Bravo! and encore Bravo! I'm soo proud of you ! I have totally failed make-out 2013 but I will do a makeup inventory soon.
I think your downsize has been great. I have been doing this for a few years and I am finally getting to the point where I would like it. I had back ups to my back ups. I am almost done with those.
Watching videos like this help me stay motivated and not feel so alone :)
Hi Christine,
I was just wondering what happened to all of your NYX Eyeshadows? I loved your videos on them all
Yay well done you did so good! Impressive! Love these vids! :)
I find this helpful and inspiring. I recently had to buy another organizer (I use the small three drawers from sterilite, I now have three of them) for my makeup and decided that was unacceptable so I've been trying to dwindle down my collection to a more manageable amount. My weaknesses are blushes, lipstick, and neutral eyeshadows.
Loved it!! Loving your diligence! You're really inspiring me!! Thank you girl :)
You're such an inspiration Christine. I've been trying to use up a lot of makeup I've had for years. My weakness is eyeshadow and I have a ton of it but I also use between 5-6 per day on my eye look. Trying to cut back tho!!
Yay! I was waiting for this video! Good job Christine! :)
I'm addicted to blushes as well :D
I love these videos because it reminds me to be disciplined as well. Your declutter vlogs are some of my favorite videos and so inspiring!
Way to go! You're doing great. Instead of physically counting the products I have, I went through some of those categories and physically removed the items that were still sealed or unused. It's pretty embarrassing to see how much I had that I hadn't even so much as swatched. I pretty much put myself on a sort of no buy. Now, if I see a LE item I really want and end up getting, it goes into my sealed pile, which I find more embarrassing to have. I will dip into it if I need to, but so far I haven't felt a need. I have a problem with lipsticks and eyeshadows, including the color tattoos. I am afraid to go through my eyeshadows though, as I was a bare minerals fanatic and may have gone a little overboard.
I would rush through and sort and get rid of stuff, but find my anxieties flare when things change too quickly. Ideally, if I stop thinking about the items I put away, I'm obviously not too keen on them and should release them, and hopefully that is what happens.
I have loved these videos of you getting rid of stuff, it has totally inspired me to get rid of things around my house that are not needed and taking up space. Thanks :)
I've never thought about doing a make up inventory! That's a great idea. Especially for nail polish. Thanks for the idea.
i love your videos, your personality, you are not feigned, i'm not sure if it's said same in English but i'm trying to say that you're so natural...
This is very inspirational for me, specially since I have a hoarding problem lol. I tend to buy too much at very little time, and then suddenly loose interest and stop using and buying. End up throwing away much of those products. But finally I am controlling this what I like to call emotional shopping crisis. Happened with shoes, then clothes, then perfumes, then accessories, , and most recently in the past 2 years: natural soaps and body care products, scented wax and makeup... yes it has been through many many years.
I am now focusing on throwing out whatever went bad and using up everything before I can buy anymore as necessary, also of course giving away any unused products to my friends and family. I'm doing really well with the natural soaps and body care products, almost up with those maybe good for another 3 months. I am working with the scented wax, not buying anything, just focusing on enjoying what I have and using them up. Now I am very attached with makeup, but finally stopped buying, but what I am getting out of this recent obsession is giving some away to my closest family and doing their makeup for special occasions.
Thank you very much for sharing this, sometimes it's hard to admit to a problem when no one else is willing to share their story, and with so many out there who would so easily sit back and judge on others instead of finding ways to help out.
I absolutely love this idea! As soon as I get time, I will do an inventory of my makeup because it does keep you in check and clean; organized. ...My name is Kristen and I am a "Makeupaholic." My number one product that I have WAY too much of is foundation....I will DO this! Thank you, love your makeup table. I hope you have it listed somewhere.
This makes me want to go through my collection...I might do that today! Also, I love your vanity! So pretty.
Love these videos! It really helps me think through what I have and limit my spending.
Hi Christine, congratulations, you did really well pairing down your collections. To stick with a goal for so long is quite an accomplishment. You should be proud of yourself, Im proud for you. My problem is, I purchase a makeup item, then as soon as the next greatest thing comes out I buy that and pass on the former item. I never keep anything around, so I never have a clear idea of exactly how much Ive actually purchased. I think I will begin to incorporate your idea of keeping a list of all my purchases for the year and Im sure it will be eye opening. Keep up the good work, Hugs!
Good job. Thanks for making this video. You have made me look at myself and what I am buying in makeup. I have been buying way too much makeup that I can not possible use up. I am going to take an inventory of my makeup and make an ideal list and see if I can meet that list. Thanks again and I loved this video.
While watching this video, i couldn't help getting to proud of you for reaching some of your goals!
This is AMAZING. To be this focused and spent this much time over making sure your stash is manageable.
I really like the tips you shown in this video and will try to do the same with mine. Keep my purchases to a minimum at what I can really used. xD
I love your videos, I look forward to them every day
