My favorite lesson from this video is people are kind!
I started crying when I saw that 3:00 pacer just cheering you... they can probably run faster, but they are running for other people! Also you, Floris, dedicating this to your family... after health, family is the most important thing in the world.
Totally, such a supportive team of pacers and crowd. Totally family is so important! Appreciate you
Favorite quote from this video "Don't ever underestimate the marathon". Sums it all up pretty well.
Spot on takeaway
Wow! That was awesome! Thank you for recording that- I was set to run Tokyo 2024 as well and was sidelined 3 weeks before the race with a stress fracture in my hip. Watching your video brought me to tears and it was incredible to see the race through you! Congrats! You are inspiring!
Damn, sorry to hear about your hip stress fracture Shannon, wishing you a speedy recovery. Glad you enjoyed the video and still experienced the Tokyo marathon in some way. All the best
Way to dig deep in those tough miles. Always impressive to see how you pull it off with some major obstacle in your way. Lots of inspiration here for my marathon in 1 week! Thanks Floris!
Never a dull moment with some of those challenging miles David. Good luck with your marathon, don't let any major obstacles get in your way!
@@FlorisGierman I didn't! But I'll be lying if I said it was easy at the end there. Especially with the wind and the warm temps. I really had some doubts around 22 and especially at 24 but I was able to battle through and finish with a 7 min PR. I'll take it.....onto the next!
“Mind in the right place” that is such a huge part of distance sports. I’m new to distance sports and it truly is mind over matter. Thank you for your videos and podcast, I appreciate what you do!
Totally, as much as it's important to be physically fit, the mind in the right place can help you dig deeper when needed. Thank you!
That was amazing! Thanks for sharing. You made it look easy. 😊
I've seen a lot of follow along marathon vids, but this is one of the best ones yet. You look so relaxed and positive while racing! Truly inspirational man, subbed!
Congratulations 🎉
Awesome thank you for the video
Thanks for watching!
Thank you, always inspiring ❤
Thank you! ❤
LETS GOOOO!!! Congrats Floris!!!
Let's do this! Thanks Jonathan
thanks for sharing, great job
I appreciate your support, thank you!
It was so helpful to see this as I prepare for my first marathon at age 63. Thanks for the tips on nutrition, and the reminder not to underestimate the marathon.
Exciting first marathon ahead, you will ALWAYS remember your first marathon :) Glad it was helpful! Enjoy your training and racing journey ahead.
How sweet !!
You are so kind
Great , post , thank you for sharing the run with us.
🙏 thanks John. Appreciated your other comments elsewhere too about the breakdown of effort level. Hope to see you in London in April!
Awesome work, Floris! I am going for my very first marathon this May. Pace will be very different, but I'm really looking forward to it after watching this!
It was very touching~
This channel is an inspiration, great work man, congrats for the Marathon!! keep it up!!
Thanks a lot Manuel, I appreciate it! Enjoy your running journey.
Awesome Floris! A true inspiration ❤
Trying to keep up with you Wissam, appreciate you my friend. Hope all is well with you and the fam.
Well done!
Thanks a ton!
Floris, you are the man!
Floris, I discovered your zone 2 training video last summer and that inspired me to increase my weekly mileage! That snowballed into beginning to believe I could do marathon...leading to applying for the Tokyo Marathon...and then to FINISHING the Tokyo Marathon (my first one)!! Thank you for being an inspiration to this community and I'm already looking forward to the next one!!
Congrats Floris, inspiring video
Thanks a bunch, it means a lot!
Amazing! Well done floris
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job Floris!!! Congratulations!!! All the best!!👍👍👍
Thank you Ralph! Appreciate you
Congratulations for your sub3 Floris. I ran sub3 also last year (2023 edition); you transported me to the race again. Thank you. Many many zigzags on the track. So you've completed your 5th too. I'm going to London 2025 to complete the majors, with Sydney yet on my pocket. Listen to you on my next long run (love The Extramilest Show).
Legend! Thanks for capturing Japan! 🇯🇵 biggest take away is volume! You are what you run. Miles in, miles out!
nice video! great race!
Appreciate it!
This video brought me memories when I ran it in 2016, it was my very first marathon also. I managed to make it my goal of sub 4hours but after km 33 it was tough but totally worth it in the end. Well done on your race and sure you enjoyed all the vibes from Tokyo streets! congrats once again!
Congratulations!
Thanks so much!
Great video! Congratz!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
very well done,
Thank you Namits3775, appreciate you!
It was a fun watch , well done Floris!
Appreciate you Simon!
Seeing Richard Whitehead at 1:33… I’m blown away. How brilliant. Now, to watch the rest of the video 🙏🏼
Floris, found your channel on my way to running my first marathon this June. Thank you for sharing your perspective during the race and your training. You’re inspirational in more ways than one! Keep charging!
Happy to hear Mark, means a lot to me. Enjoy your marathon training and racing journey. You will ALWAYS remember your first marathon!
"Run the mile you are in" this mindset is what keeps me going on long runs too ❤ I dream of running Tokyo one day. Congrats Floris!!
Amazing Floris. You are such an inspiration
Appreciate you!
Great work!! Very impressive result given that you were not training too much prior to it :D and I really enjoy your recording, Tokyo street view looked amazing! The slowmo shots were cool, but maybe a bit too many of them, it would be cooler to see the cheering crowd in a normal speed :D
Great stuff - loved the race too, a fabulous experience. Very happy to do 3h16 after developing a niggle in the training block. And to meet Kipchoge too, although I didn’t get a podcast out of him 😂 Look forward to listening. Keep up the good work 😊
What a cool race. Congrats. Beautiful filmed as well.
Tokyo surely is a special place, especially when running through the city like that and seeing the old building and locals cheering you on. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks
Wow! Congratulations! Standing ovation to you! It seemed such an effortless run for you!
I promise it was not an effortless run, my legs agree with that statement the following day. Thanks and cheers!
Congratulations🏆
Thanks Simon!
Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your Tokyo Marathon experience! Congratulations on an amazing race! I love listening to your Extramilest podcast while I’m out running! 🏆 🏅 🏃♥️👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow that means a lot to me, thank you Running Woman!
Love you too Floris, Well done 👏
❤🙏
Dude, you look so happy!!!! watching this made me smile! :)
The stoke levels were high Puja, smiles for miles :) Hope you're recovering well from your injury and back to normal running again soon.
Merci d'avoir communiqué votre joie à cette participation ! Ça donne vraiment envie !!! D'ailleurs c'est le marathon que je rêve de faire ! ❤
Wow! Great work Floris. I’m glad you always put out realistic information on the marathon. Hope to meet you in London. ⭐️🏃🏾♀️
Happy to hear that and looking forward to seeing you in London at the shakeout run there. Details are up on the PATH projects Strava club. Will share more soon. Have a good one!
Congrats on the strong finish!
Appreciate you Ian!
Amazing Flo!! Thank you for filming this and taking us along for the ride! Some very valuable moments there!
Happy to share some of my favorite Tokyo marathon moments with family and friends, highly recommend that race Andrew. Hope you're well
On my long run this morning I was thinking about your why / family when things are getting tough towards the end of the race - so powerful and motivating to keeping you strong to the finish! You’re inspiring Flo!
Thanks fot the video. Always pointed out the importance stuff that we need to consider and I’m and many others will appreciate it immensely. Hope you rested and recovered well. See you in London 👊
Glad it was helpful! Looking forward to seeing you in London, join our shakeout run if you’re around the day before the race.
Oh man! That end came absolutely unexpected! Can't wait for it! 😁👍
:) glad all worked out to connect with him in person post race. Will post in the next 7-10 days 👍
Inspirational as ever .... wow Floris ...way to go 🙂🥳
Appreciate you Clare238!
Congratulations!!! Big takeaway was just being able to enjoy the race and take it all in. Marathons are tough, even when you are fully trained. Run the mile you are in. Hope to be there one day.
Thanks Jeff and great takeaways. So important to not just focus on finish time, but take the entire race day experience in. Running the mile you're in can help stay present. Hope you get into Tokyo soon! Cheers
You are awesome Floris by making this marathon something meaningful :)
It surely was a special marathon experience. Thank you!
Awesome video and run! It makes me want to sign up for a big city marathon - can really feel the excitement and buzz. Thank you for sharing!
Totally! It can be tricky to run in crowded streets, yet the excitement and support surely helps keep the energy levels high.
You inspire
Aw, shucks, thanks a bunch!
Congratulations,your channel inspires me a lot...keep it up 🎉
Stoked to hear that, thank you!
We dug deep and we made it happen..love that❤ great sportsmanship man!
That was a special race for sure, thank you @AwangRebelRiders1200
So good to watch that Floris and it brought back great memories for me from 2023 Tokyo Marathon. Big congratulations and thanks for sharing (which probably cost a little time)!💪💪💪
Thanks so much Jennifer. What a special place to race the Tokyo Marathon is. Hope your runs are going well. Cheers
It looked so busy, especially at the start. Great job as always!
38 thousand runners can surely get crowded on some of those streets. Thanks Phil!
Congratulations, Floris! What a strong finish. I’ve been watching your videos to prep me with for when I will run my marathon next year.
Happy to hear that Stacy, enjoy your training and upcoming marathon next year!
Great job Floris! I’m excited to see the interview with Eliud!
Happy to hear that Peter. I wanted to finish this Tokyo video edit first, next edit will be the Kipchoge interview. Should launch in the next 7-10 days if all works out. Cheers
THat is really well done. IT is always a good challenge to see how one does even if the training is less than what was planned before. for most part everything has their ups and downs. but in general a good amazing time to finish on such a major marathon, I have my first major this year, Chicago later in October, after doing Ottawa and Grandmas too this year. thanks on sharing
You'll have a blast at Chicago, a great World Major to race. Surely never a dull moment in a marathon, with plenty of ups and downs. Enjoy your training and upcoming races. Cheers
Awesome running. Congratulations
THANK YOU!
Well done once again, Floris!! Love your heart and grit… we’ve all been there, whether it’s mile 18, 22, 25 or mile 10! Dig deep and run a smart race. Great job, man.
Totally, overcoming some of those tough spots can feel incredibly fulfilling. Enjoy your running journey Nick. Cheers
Well done on a great marathon! You worked out where you were in terms of fitness and just stayed with that. I was impressed how relaxed you looked. Loved seeing the supporters and what lovely pacers! I have a marathon coming up and the training is not going as planned because of managing an injury so my takeaway for the day will be, run the race I am able to do rather than the one I had hoped for. That will be my best chance of having the best experience possible. Thank you
Great approach for your upcoming race day. Do what you can, health first, running performance will follow. Sending positive healthy running vibes your way!
Thank you! My aim is to enjoy what I can do@@FlorisGierman
So happy for you brother, proud that you dug deep and finished strong - sub 3!!! You balance so much, and give your all to the running community, I am happy the marathon gods smiled fondly on you at Tokyo ... 6:00 "I'm not going to lie, it's getting tougher" ... we can see you dig deep. And the Tokyo marathon, dude - this looks amazing and I can't wait to run it. Next London, for #6 ... Flospeed
These races surely don't get any easier Todd, haha! You'll love running Tokyo one day. Thank you for being part of this journey. Hope your podcast is going well. Cheers
Great race recap Floris. Congrats on your 5th star. It was brilliant meeting you on the Shakeout run in Tokyo. Awaiting Kipchoge’s interview now.
Happy to see you finish sub 3. Always a good reminder to increase mileage. I was too hovering around 24mpw pre Tokyo. Hope to be better prepared for my next one😊
Stoked to see you at the shakeout Sarang, hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Tokyo. Surely some opportunity for higher training volume in your future training cycles too. See you next time in Seattle and we'll go for a run. Cheers
Congratulations 🎉 Awesome editing. Thanks for keeping it real and showing the occasional "struggle face" expression. Your content has helped me progress greatly in my journey 😊
haha the struggle face was real! Happy to hear that. Enjoy your running and health journey. Cheers
Cool video
That was inspirational! I remembered you holding back tear when you finished Berlin. Learned alot of what to prepared for a marathon although I’ll be taking my half-marathon instead in two months. That was amazing, congrats to your accomplishment!
A marathon surely strips away all layers and the raw emotions easily come up. It's part of the journey that some other runners also experience. It's not easy to put vulnerability in videos, but those low and high feelings are what makes a marathon special. Thanks @realgrilledsushi
Didn’t know you were out there, must’ve missed you go by because I was cheering on a few club mates who were just under sub 3 as well! Nice race 👍
Small world! Hope your club mates crushed it. Thanks!
So happy to see your runs in every races. Hope to do that like you one day as a sub 3 runner. So inspired!!!!!
Maybe one day I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines as you crush your runs!
The lesson: no one but you can make the difference on you're own world! So, trust yourself, work hard, be resilient, confident and consistent, but always listening to your body. Take your place and release all the magic that is inside. You are your master.
🎉🎉🎉Congratulations! Thank you for filming this year’s Tokyo Marathon where I ran as well. Absolutely amazing event! So well organized and I also PR’d by 4 mins and finished at 3:43:33
Congrats on your PB, that's not an easy course to PB on with those crowds, nice work!
My takeaway was dang, those were some sharp turns haha. Great work out there Floris🎉
Seriously, I was thinking the same thing Andy, bottleneck in full effect. Thanks, appreciate you.
@fiorisGierman the videos you made that remain etched in my mind the most are the Low HR training vids where you are running a sub 3 while talking to the viewers the whole time. I know all that work you put in is what makes it seem easy to you, and hard to some of us! Great work and may God allow you to continue to shine your light upon others!
Wow great race! Love your positive spirit in the midst of challenge. Thanks for sharing your nutrition. Would be interesting to know your travel routine like how far in advance you arrive when travel long distance.
Thank you! For Tokyo the time difference with LA was 17 hours, so I flew in further ahead. Left LA on Wednesday, arrived at the hotel Thursday end of day. Friday bib pick up, Saturday shakeout run, Sunday race. As soon as I depart the airport, I put the local time zone on my watch and try to force myself to adjust. I remove caffeine for that 24 hours, wear blue light blocking glasses and bring face mask / ear plugs to sleep in the plane. Hope that helps.
New york needs that style of bin for cup disposal and those 180 corners wow
favorite lesson i learned as im training for my first half marathon is that it's all mental and nobody can push you to do it. it's all you!
Dude, amazing execution, filming yourself, running, picking up the water cup, drinking the water without spilling, properly placing the cup in a trash receptacle. Legendary.
That final mile looked so awesome. ANOTHER SUB 3 STAR- YOU MADE IT HAPPEN FLO!! WOHOOOOOO!!!!!!
Couldn't have done it without you Demi. Appreciate you more than your realize. Much love
You introduced me MAF training in the most critical moment of my life !! Thank you! Can’t wait for the GOAT interview 😊
So happy to hear that. Honestly MAF training changed my training, racing, but more importantly my daily life. Still editing the interview with Kipchoge, will probably post in the next 7-10 days. All the best!
Great video. Love the slow-motion editing. I really love the costumes that the spectators were wearing. Secondly, I like that even during this race, you are always looking to coach through the videos. Dedication. Only 1 major left, then time to come to the dark side. 😂🎉
Thank you! The slomo helped that I didn't have to talk much and save my breath :)
So cool that you think of your family when you see the finish line, Congratulations man👍
Family first, always. Thanks Loren!
❤it made me cry to see how many people are so brave and train to run a marathon. I am a follower of your CZcams and podcast and I have learned so much. I just started my running journey. My take away is “we can do hard things, but we have to train for it” thank you so much for all the inspiration.
Well done on your running journey so far and that's a great takeaway Magnoliamsed! Enjoy your runs out there. Cheers
awesome time and what a great race! i similarly needed to be alone with my pain from 20km-35km (till the final out and back).
Thought I saw you checking out at Keio Plaza hotel but I wasn't sure (wasn't on socials the last days before race). Darn, should have asked you for a photo.
Small world! I did spend 2 days in the Keio Plaza hotel to record several podcasts. Next time hit me up and we'll talk running. Hope you enjoyed your time in Tokyo! Cheers
Congrats with the race !
And thanks for all the valuable info about Zone 2 training and especially for the link to Zones calculator where you put your age, resting and max. HR.
Before October 12th, 2023, I was depressed as hell, unfit and skinny fat, burned out at my job with relationships that were cracking.
Now I’m less depressed, in my best form, sharing a new hobby with my girlfriend. My easy runs are in 9min/mile instead of 13m/m, I can run sub 2 half, and average 30miles per week training for my first marathon.
So awesome to hear about your progress! Running is not just changing your pace, but your life too. Keep on crushing it Roman!
Lesgoo!
Lessdothis!!
Congratulations Floris!! I can't believe you did that on such low mileage. And yes, marathons are TOUGH!😆 Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Honestly wasn't sure if I could pull it off or miss my goal, yet the weather was on my side on race day. Appreciate you!
Congratulations.....
Thank you George!
Helicopters are coming ❤.. Good one 👍
Haha, that's how I normally know there is a criminal on the run, or the elite runners are getting close :)
A sub-3 hour marathon on 24 miles running per week for the 12-week period prior to the event? This is hugely impressive, at least in my eyes.
Glad the temperatures cooperated that day, or I'd have been in trouble. Thank you
There I am in your video! 2:55 6th ⭐️
Great run mate. U made it looked too easy cause smiled through the whole race😁
The smile surely became more of a survival mode smile at the end 😁lol
Wow you look so calm even after the run! Can’t wait for Kipchoge’s interview to be released.
Haha, calm on the outside, but inside holding on for dear life to keep that pace going. Kipchoge interview should be done in the next 7-10 days, stay tuned!
Amazing. Cannot believe you filmed, talked and were sub 3.
Appreciate the love, glad you enjoyed the video!
Floris you're one of my top motivators. Already lost 17 kilos, run everyday, doing first Mara soon.
That's amazing progress! Keep up the great work! Thanks and cheers
Well done ! Tokyo is going to be my 1st major international.
That's a great first major and the most difficult one to get into for many runners. Enjoy!
