    There's a lot to like about Quacks and i can see why its a hugely popular and award winning game. Its not 100% my style of game, but it definitely has some greatness to it. What do you all think about my comment about simultaneous draws in the game?

    • @tychay
      @tychay Před 4 lety +3

      3 Minute Board Games The default ruleset tries to give a hit of that without slowing down the game. I found that the table playing Quacks can manage two plays in the time it takes for a smaller group of 4 to finish one mid weight euro. It deserved its award but difficulty wise it should have been in the SdJ category instead of the Kennerspiel.

      Just played this with 4 players a couple weeks ago. I liked the variety and idea of it all but i don't think it's 100% for me. It was really at it's best the last couple rounds when you had a big bag full of fun combos but it took all game to get to that point and then it was over. So it basically ends right when it's getting good.. The first few turns are basically a waste of time as you pretty much only have white berries.
      Maybe if they started you with the option of buying X amount of berries at the very biggening allowing you to start getting into the fun combos quicker and for longer would it have resonated with me more.
      As it stands it's a pretty decent game that just misses the mark for me but I'm happy to play it anytime my friend asks.
      Great review as always. Love what you do. Thank you for the great channel.

      I like that Wayner. You could almost start at turn 3 with 24 bucks worth of ingredients and it wouldn't change much

      We always do simultaneous draws too, but it does make the game a lot longer.

    • @benjaminjohnson8377

      I think this game would be even more successful if the rules only said to to do simultaneous draws. I’m convinced that the vast majority of the people that think the game is ‘okay’ haven’t played with simultaneous drawing the whole way through. They actually complicated the rules and made it wishy washy by not simply say from the beginning to do simultaneous draw. The blunder perplexes me. I’ve played Quacks 20+ times, and only one time did a player not simultaneously draw with the rest of us and it was meh in comparison. Personally it’s 10/10 all simultaneous, felt like an 8-8.5 when not everyone plays simultaneous, and I would assume it would feel at best a 7-7.5 if none of us played simultaneous. I see no reason why not simultaneous could ever possibly be better in any way. Playing time is the only reason I ever see mentioned but any added time they think is there is purely tension time (not ‘waiting for other people to play’ time) which is purely exciting/fun time, which is the whole reason for sitting down and playing the game. It is the sort of thing that should certainly be fixed in a second edition should there be one.

    Quacks is a wonderful game and the Herb Witches expansion adds a lot without detracting from what makes the game great. All in all, it's always welcome at our table even after 20+ plays. No complaints at all. Also, if you really like Quacks and have the money, the Geek Up plastic bits from Board Game Geek are worth it. We'll be playing this one for years, well worth the extra shekels.

    I was hoping you'd do the expansion too, Ive not heard much about it. My little ones enjoy this game, and non-board game kids that visit can play too. 7 points of whites, but there are decisions on what to put in your bag, and it is about calculating probabilities. It's like a dice game, where the odd constantly evolve on each roll, if that makes sense.
