#12vhpwr #cable #rtx4090 - Věda a technologie
Bloody well said Guv! And bloody well done CableMod on both the cables and the adapters, gotta say really like CableMod cables myself, the set I had for my Corsair PSU were terrific.
This is exactly what I was searching for. Thank you so much for showing all the cables connected to the GPU! I have a RM1000X and will probably buy the 4x 8pin cable and the 90° adapter
Me too
Cablemod definitely makes some nice stuff! Using a set with my evga 1000w p2 psu in my current pc. Great info, thanks for sharing!!!
I am so happy with the two eight pins on my reference 6950 XT. Keep up the great work bro and stay safe.
And playing gamea at medium settings, no RT lol
G'day TT,
There have been a few PC Fire Safety Issues in the last couple of years so I can see why there is talk about the danger side of the Plug Design,
but it is great that CableMod have a design that integrates for both older & new 12VHPWR PSUs that also looks Beautiful instead of like a Mangled Squid
Why did the intro get me into such a good mood 😆
At around 2:00 you talking about the 8pin x4 and 8pin x3. You actually dont need either for a 4090 - its just for redundancy. Each 8pin can draw up to 342watts. In theory you can just use a 8pin 2x to 12VHPWR. Nice video anyway - keep it up!
Priceless comment, thanks for sharing that info
This is what I'm confused about. I've heard you need all 4 for 600 watts but corsair sells a 2 (6+2) to 12vhpwr that says it will do 600 watts. So how many (6+2) do I need to get the full 600 watts? Just 2 as you say? Are you positive? Not doubting really, just would like some clarification. Why would other manufacturers make 4 (6+2) to 12vhpwr? What is that one for? Super redundancy?!
Nvidia should do a partnership with cable mods and include the adapter and the cable in every graphics card box and lower their prices
That's not how businesses work
100$ added to 1600$ GPU xD
@@polla2256 well ideally businesses wouldn't send out faulty adapters as the 'recommended' way of utilizing their flagship product. So I'd say we're off the designated trail at this very moment.
Why would cablemod want to partner with them? They aren’t exactly known for treating their partners true
you'd think nvidia would do such a thing after what they did to evga for years? buddy you need to get real.
Great, more stuff that will be "out of stock" like every 4090, every atx 3.0 PSU and now every 4090 cable from cable mod.
Good one, that looks like a solution to the problem.
seasonic also teased a 90-cable as well, good times
i don't wanna pay for another cable after buying such a premium product
I think this 90deg connector by CableMod will be a great product and I will probably end up buying it, but Nvidia should've provided this with every 4090. There's no way they didn't know their cable may cause problems.
That adapter will probably be sold out in seconds lol
exactly, and to be honest, when all the reviews of the 4090 came out, how many reviews did you see the reviewers actually trying to put it in a case? they all just busted out the charts.
When does it launch

Hello,
What cases do you recommend in order to fit these cablemod cables ?
Meaning that bend you need to do to arrange the cable from the gpu connector.
Will the 90 adapter connect directly to those white replacement cables from cable mod? I believe the 90’ degree adapter is a adapter alone no cable.
Just ordered mine but not sure how long it will take to ship, hopefully not too long
Blows my mind - billions of transistors for a state-of-the-art graphics solution, and the freaking power cable is what we're having issues with?
7:45. I have a Strix 4090, if this guy is right I’m getting this product as soon as possible
Thank you for this Video!
So sadly I'm not able to buy one from cablemod, because I have a Gigabyte PSU, am I right? 😔
Well... these just smoked off on me.
Thank god nothing got damaged, guess I'll try the corsair ones next..
which one is for the BEquite power supply? it only shows me the evga and Asus and sea sonic 12vhpwr adapter cable
well this aged well
What happened
I wonder how long until we need dual PSU cases.
40€ for an adapter made in china like all others .. It's too expensive, especially when you think you are buying an American product. It's just drop shipping, and today no surprise.., we see cablemod adapters melting like other basic cables and adapters.
Nice job cablemod ! The profit must be.. higher !
Great vid!
CableMod is in such a position of power right now. It's scary. I hope they do the right thing and price the 90 degree cables accordingly.. Of course we shouldn't be here in the first place. I have a feeling these cables will be harder to come by than the 4090 itself :(
Nah. It's easier to get the cable. You can pre-order it and in 2-3 weeks you get the cable. With the 4090 they've been out of stock since release except for the 2500 euro ones which no one buys cause even scalpers sell them for 200 euro cheaper.
"Like other testers, Johnny Guru intentionally tried to get an adapter to melt and was unsuccessful. Even when he broke one of the outside power leads completely off, the adapter never melted. Also, the probe he used never reported temps higher than 53C. This lead him to reexamine the photos people posted online of melted adapters, and he came to a simple conclusion: People aren’t plugging them in all the way (above). He notes this is not necessarily their fault, because the new adapter is apparently difficult to insert fully. This is due to the new sideband rails that communicate with the GPU, he says. He also notes we’re seeing more melted adapters versus ATX 3.0 cables just because the former are more prevalent."
"the adapters are actually fine. They are just very difficult (emphasis his) to insert fully. Overall, it does seem like there is sufficient solder, and the connection is very solid. Even if it’s bent, or damaged, nobody has been able to force it to melt so far. Still, more testing is required before this can be confirmed. A word from Nvidia would certainly help too, but we’re still waiting on that. For now, if you have an RTX 4090, make sure you can’t easily unplug it once it’s inserted. If you can just pull it out, it’s not fully seated." CORSAIR
@@kenmasters916 There is at least one case reported on Reddit where the adapter melted while inserted completely and fully. The user had prior knowledge of this fact, and made completely sure the adapter is fully plugged in (even with the use of force, as is needed for some of them). After about 1 to 2 weeks of usage, one of the outermost pins melted.
@@amariel3310 ok. But Ill take the word from Corsair’s PSU Chief over one case of a random person making claims that there wasn't user error. Was it documented and recorded ? Because not 1 credible source has been able to duplicate the issue thus far.
@@amariel3310 I have the 4090 and 0 issues, but my card is plugged correctly. Even after playing for hours and under a flir visual to confirm. But definitely nothing wrong with waiting If you're in the market for one, especially since they are almost impossible to get.
So hope you can answer this for me… going to order the 12+4 pin to 12+4 pin connector from cable mod. It will work for me correct? Got sicker stone r850 that has the 12+4 pin connector and an Rtx 4070ti. 850 watts is enough right? And since power supply has the gen 5 ready connector 12+4 pins on power supply, I can do dual ends 12+4 pins correct? Please help don’t want to burn my house down. Lol
I could be wrong but I feel like CabelMod intended for their plastic piece near the main connector that plugs in to the card to be like upside down, and it isn't? To me it seems like it would be more beneficial to be under the bend instead of on top of it? If it were under the bend then it would literally minimize the amount of bend that you actually put on it? I'm curious to hear any reasonings as to why it is the way it is. I just bought a 4090 FE and I did order a CableMod cable but I'd very much like a different option.
Any updates on your 90 degree adapter? How did it work out?

Is there an ETA or pre-order for the 90 degree cable? Thanks.
how did MSI get the 4090 into 3xadaptor :D
I agree, it's a 12+4 not a 16 pin. Only 12 supply the power, so calling it a 16 pin is misleading
Takes up to a month to get.. only down thing. Might take longer now
Decent ding today 😀
Just ordered mine for my strix 4070ti i cant wait the cables it comes with are so ugly . love cable mods brand!
How did it work out? Any updates?
nice vid, any future custom builds coming up?
Check the channel for the limited edition cosmos case that's here....
will my cablemod cable hold out until the right angle is out
race against time
I do not like that CableMod does not actually populate all 4 of the sense cables. Having an actual atx 3.0 compliant PSU, those two extra cables are actually communicating between GPU and PSU.
Anyone know which white video card's behind him? I'm building a white system next month and that card looks super sick
CableMod is the only one that has an alternative cable in stock.
Problem is they're made to order and even the generic ones you just add to cart take 2-3 weeks to make and ship.
@@paranoidpanzerpenguin5262 Well I'm building my computer this weekend with the stock cable and then waiting for the cablemod version to arrive and hoping the stock one doesn't burn up while waiting, but they'll honor the warranty claim to get a new one if it burns up. Since we know the cause of it now (horizontal bending) I'm sure it can be avoided for now.
Problem with Cable mod is they wont ship to you unless you spend 80 bucks or more and another 20 for shipping... Meanwhile the Corsair cable is 20 bucks with free shipping.
and the wait is pretty long.
not true, at least in the contiguous united states the shipping is 5 dollars , so 30 dollars total
Almost no standard size case has enough room for a 4090 cable without a bend.
Can you overclock with these cables?
look at the size of that gpu...eye watering
would that 90 degree adapter work on on all 4090's though as some have resest power connectors
probably not on the msi suprim liquid x as the plug is recessed
Cablemod has commented that more than 2x8pin cables even for the 4090 is redundancy and people that can't get over the old pcie spec ratings (which is for poor quality cables).
Well oi there guvna!
If you are going to cal it a 12+4, then you best start calling the 8-pin a 6+2 😛
Thats a good point and some kinda do. depends if the 8 is fixed as an 8 ;)
Dude, how did you get one lol I've been waiting for weeks, still not shipped!
I know the boys that own the company really well dude. I've been waiting a lil while too
I'm very new to pc building. I have a Zotac 4090, do I need to be worried about this?
Depends on your case. I have a build I did for someone back in December, and I'm still waiting for this fn adaptor just so I can give them their computer. The side panel on their $280 Lian Li 011 case won't go on until the adapter is in place. If I knew this was an issue, I'd have the buyer get the biggest full size case in existence
@@Roadsurfer2k11 I have a cooler master masterbox TD500. It can be closed up without having to use any force, but it does squish against the 4090 cables a little bit
@Sabola be very careful with the cable, the bends are what's causing the melting. I can't put the side panel on at all, but didn't want to take chances on a very expensive build done for someone else. They'll have to wait for the 90 degree adapter
@@Roadsurfer2k11 ok, thank you for the advice.
so will it work with my evga supernova 1300 p+ for my 4090? Thanks
You would have to check their website for your PSU
A 180 degree adapter would be even better so the cable goes down the back of the GPU and not blocking any part of the GPU cooler.
There is one of those coming too ;)
@@OC3D Excellent!
@@OC3D Great stuff. I've long used both 90 degree and 180 degree adapters for PCIe cables so I'll just point out that they typically come in pairs: one left-handed and one right-handed, so there's no problem of accidentally buying the wrong one. I hope you can impress the utility of this on Cablemods.
Someone need to 3d print cases so we can get the proper curve without bending the cable as harsh. My Lian li mid size won't close unless forced with gaming trio or strix model. Will have to vertical mount.
Do you have the lian li dynamic Evo?

Nvidia are a bunch of 'jokers'. Thank you for giving insight & time to this difficulty they have handed the community. We needed it, Tom. 🇺🇸 😎👍☕
CableMOD made the adapter wrong.... The cable should lay on the backplate, not going down the entire case....
Would have been much nicer to have a adapter that where going up, then bend from the backplate and then into the grommits on the case.
You said nothing about what makes this cable better than what comes with the 4090. The problem is the thin metal female crimp contact on the Molex connector, the small span between the wire crimp location and where it grips the pin is where the problem lies. Carrying that load across the span will get hot which increases the temperature even more. Nothing is said on CableMods website about addressing the wimpy female contact. A possible solution would be to remove the female contact from the housing and adding solder between the crimp and the contact to increase the cross section of the contact at that point.

@@kenmasters916 Interesting. It's a "positive locking connector" which should snap into place. If there is difficulty fully seating the connector from interference with the packaging sounds like something was either overlooked or ignored. You can never assume the customer will be fully aware of this and design it in a way to minimize this from happening. I'm planning on getting an RTX 4090 but this is a concern. As stated, I don't think it's the adapter cable itself but the connector that plugs into the graphic card regardless of who supplies the adapter. From what I'm hearing based on your statement the failure may be occurring from not fully seating the connector which would make sense. The fact that the connector is heating up to 53C indicates there is inadequate contact capacity which will result in a voltage drop across the leads. Those Molex crimp pins are made from .010" (,25mm) thick brass stampings which has very little resiliency to maintain a tight grip on the contact pin. If the connector rocks due to stress imposed by the wires it will cause the female contact to try to angle itself from the pin as mentioned. Prosperous bronze or better yet, beryllium copper (not likely) would be a better choice or perhaps a thicker wall crimp contact which isn't available to my knowledge. Had they increased the pin count this would not be an issue where the mechanical integrity of the mated pairs would be higher. I think the ultimate solution for someone who already has the graphic card and is concerned is to solder 16 ga wires directly into the board, but that's just my opinion. It's amazing how so many people are putting in this effort to try to identify the problem. Even if it's random I don't want to be the person who's on the wrong side of the "statistics"
Thanks for the detailed response. Hopefully they can identify the exact cause which should never culminated into a full-blown R&D effort by Nvidia's customers as they clearly screwed-up on this

@@donuthole7236 verdicts in today "Databased conclusion is that cables are melting when the connector is partially unseated, we've finally been able to recreate it. But it required to be very unseated, and also pulling the cable at an angle. Because we tested an unseated cable without pulling it at an angle it didn't fail even when it was equivocally unsocketed. So pulling it at the angle so that the gpus metal pins are in contact by the tip of metal socket rather than the intended mating service is what causes failure."

Actually everyone ( power supply manufacturer) are already using the 4 extra pins on the new ATX 3.0 power supplies. The old dumb power supplies just use them as ground, since obviously they were not meant to use them. So even the adapter cables just use two for ground.

Nope. But they are good friends.
I don't get why they call it a "16-pin" either. Unless I'm missing something, the cable clearly only has 12 pins.
I had placed an order for these cables for a rtx 4090 that i have not purchased yet. I got these in the other day and the quality of these are complete crap. The wire going to the plastic piece look shoved in there forcefully and there is a bad twist in the connector. no you're a joke for not understanding that the 30 mating cycle has been a thing for eons and isnt a Nvidia issue. It only became an issue when it was blown out of proportion. Tell me, ho many times do you plug and unplug your GPU during its life cycle? probably a handful of times. 30 is extreme edge cases or when testing of a unit/device is required.

Can we call all of this what it is? It's just a sh|t design. Four plugs terminating into one is the result of a lack of development of PSU to hardware (Namely GPU). It should simply be a single plug, to a single plug, even if a new dedicated rail is needed it's about time we got an update to PSU's. It's an absolute joke at this point but people have become accustomed to it, it just looks laughable if nothing else. I guarantee that in the future PSU's will actually catch up to be able to supply enough power from a single plug TO a single plug. Even if that doesn't happen, the individual wires need to be individually pinned.
so much stupid useless drama
