    Good timing is essential if your aim is to be a competent lead guitarist who can play with other musicians. This lesson begins a series on developing your lead timing skills, starting with note values.
    Timing is about how notes are divided up in a rhythm. In this lesson, we look at the core note values used in music, from whole notes to sixteenth notes, and how they are positioned along the musical timeline.
    By understanding note values, and how to time them to a simple beat pattern (or metronome), you'll already be well on your way to creating articulate solos and riffs that command the listener's (and other musicians') attention.
    This lesson represents the foundation for developing good timing on guitar, or any instrument for that matter.

    I've always neglected guitar theory to the point where I feel like I need to restart at the beginning, it really helps to have such a clear and concise vid walk me through how to practice. Most advice is just "use a metronome" but this actually showed me HOW to start practicing with one and where to go from there, thanks for the great vid!

    Excellent video as always. So funny how I remember my childhood drummer buddies so obsessed with the Oney an a, Twoey an a etc. I always thought that was a just a drummer thing. I didn't know that was an actual taught phrase, guess I just have a built in good timing that's automatic.

    • @fretjamdotcom
      @fretjamdotcom  Před 8 lety

      Yes it probably means more to drummers as they practice their beats. To be honest, I wouldn't expect guitarists to be counting 1 e & a 2 e & a etc. in their heads when playing. You eventually just get a feel for these note values and it becomes natural, as it has with you.

    Hi Mike great lesson, does picking need to be all downstrokes on the down beat and all upstrokes on upbeat? I know SRV was syncopated in his strumming by the looks of it, though not sure if this helps in picking or it would get too complicated throwing licks in also...more about the feel? Or would this actually really help if you are already syncopated with your strumming... thanks great lesson

      Thats the idea. The hard part is to play the right passages for the back round music that complement the timing. Substitute by playing whole nots with bends or rests

    How much Time Do I need to build my Speed in A Practice Routine. For Example if have an 8 hours Practice Routine how much Time should I devote to build my Speed on a single exercise?

    • @fretjamdotcom
      @fretjamdotcom  Před 2 lety

      Eh that's a tough one. Don't completely swallow up your playing time with drills. You'll likely just get burned out and lose interest. Just keep chipping away at it in small doses. I know time is competitive for most of us. We have commitments other than guitar. If we're talking specific exercises that you feel will push you, try to give it 10-20 solid minutes per day. If you can give more, that's great. Daily (or every other day) persistence is more important than block hours spent on a specific exercise.

    Today I will talk about what’s happening to our great country of America, what is main core of problems, the main problem is 300 hundred years of slavery problems for Blacks people, hasn’t been solved, Nobody talks about it , if I say something Wow how dare, Black people don’t talk about it, cause painful, white peoples don’t talk about it is shameful, I served In United States Of America for 8 yers and I got out with honorable discharge, and I didn’t know that I was from selective services. See affirmative action don’t do it, by burning the city want do it , That blacks systematically picky on and discriminated, Blacks & White should sit down around the table of brotherhood and solve the problem. Blaming Donald Trump, for everything, It’s not gonna solve the problem, today there’s No Discrimination again Blacks, what’s is really is history of slavery pain that is must Before blaming police officer, Or President Donald Trump, If we have President Obama the most powerful man is black, you can’t convince me , nothing is change.you can’t blame great grandson of slave owner. See when I was in military we had 4 star generals we Had 4 star generals also. Could you imagine civil war starts what’s gonna happens with this high tech weapon. The end of the world. That’s dangerous, I know it’s very tough subject, that’s is why I suggest that we sit down and solve the problem peacefully , burn baby burn , Blacks were saying, Matin Luther King said , to his own brother build baby build , if it is necessary I will walk alone for peace. So let’s not blame president Donald J Trump courage president. He is good man , If you guys want perfect President , there’s is no such a President, May God bless you and I pray that we choose peace.Amen, that’s is what in my mind. That’s is why I came to the America. Bless the lord . Forever. 4 star Black General and 4 Star white generals. God bless you all and God bless America.
