  • UPC President Olara Otunnu says President Museveni should be indicted by the International Criminal Court for the atrocities the NRA committed in northern Uganda.
Otunnu's comments come on the heels of the recent acknowledgement by the President that the army committed atrocities in northern Uganda at the peak of insurgencies that emerged after 1986. Otunnu who hails from the Acholi sub-region, which was at the epicenter of armed insurrection against Museveni's government, says as Commander-in-Chief, Museveni cannot escape culpability. However army publicist Lt Col Paddy Ankunda scoffed at Otunnu.

Don't forget that, atrocities started in 1966 when Obote killed people and buried others alive in Buganda. And that was the beginning of all violence we have seen including the one in Northern Uganda, the current and so many others to come. why do you think that the death of some people is more painful than others and should be treated deferently? it sounds so, otherwise Olal Otunu who was a member at the UN Security Council, should have come out and say the same thing when the people of Buganda especially in Luwero were facing the same atrocities by Obote's men. If you justify ICC for Northern Uganda why not one for South and Central?. While one is sympathetic with your cause, remember that, there are others before you whose desperate calls for help were disregarded. Today, people are dying of starvation while large sums of money are hidden away by those who are supposed to care. This brings in a question why are we still in this ugly and loveless marriage? Until people are decent enough to love and care beyond their so called own where, a problem for one region/tribe is a problem for all nation, the hate driven violence will rotate on.
