If Hughes likes playing with him, pay him the same and make him a full time partner. Hughes will be getting a HUGE raise at the end of his deal, and Hroneck can be moved on from at that price. Four year deal.
Hughes is pulling him along. Same +/-? LOLZ.
Hronek had 60gp 38pts +8 on a bad Redwings team. He's got 66gp 45pts +34 on a top 4 team in the league. Hughes isn't "pulling him along". He's a 0.5-0.7 PPG Top pair RD in his prime.

Hronek has had one good year - the current one - scoring an astonish FIVE goals blindly shooting the puck on the net in SIXTY SIX games. He's making $4.4M now... The good news is that he can be evaluated after the playoffs. He is RFA and he can be moved... This was a good trade by the Canucks. Perhaps he likes the city and wants to stay... or he wants a warmer climate = it will cost too much. Arbitration would be a disaster for both parties.
Also, not to be the cynic... about trying a little harder going in a contract year. I like the way he has played this year... but... I'm not convinced because the whole team has been over-performing. Logic dictates the 7.x mark. He''ll get it somewhere but I'm not sure it should be with the Canucks. The way Quinn Hughes has been working this year - he could play with the senile Joe Biden.
