Kenny Smith Says the Rockets "Would Have Smacked" Michael Jordan & The Bulls | The Dan LeBatard Show

  • For years Stugotz has discounted the Houston Rockets and their 1994 and 1995 NBA titles, saying that they only won because Michael Jordan retired to play baseball, and if he hadn't retired, he would have won eight straight NBA titles. In this interview, Kenny Smith confronts Stugotz on his take, talks about the greatness of Jimmy Butler, and why Michael Jordan would have struggled in the social media age.

The problem with Kenny’s analysis is those Rockets were still together in 1996, as 2-time defending champions & got SMACKED & SWEPT by the 64-win Seattle SuperSonics. Then the Sonics lost to the 72-win Bulls in 6 in the finals, hell, the Bulls had em’ down 3-0 at one point.
Kenny & Hakeem NEVER won a single championship when MJ played a FULL season, but MJ & the Bulls won SIX on the Rockets watch. I mean we can wax lyrical about 94 & 95 till the doors come off, but what about 91, 92, 93, the aforementioned 96, 97 & 98?
Where were the Houston Rockets when the Bulls were 3-Peating, TWICE?
So if you’re telling me Houston’s reign was ONLY 2 years, then they have ZERO bragging rights over a team who REIGNED for 6.
I think Kenny should be grateful MJ retired after the first three-peat, cause all this “we’d smack em talk is just that, talk. Kenny & co were in the league for MORE than just 2 seasons & didn’t do shit outside of those 2 seasons.
So what’s harder, beating the juggernaut or BEING the juggernaut?
    My question was rhetorical.
    Houston, we have a problem.
