    Small warning for computer science and engineering students, you might *need* to be able to run Windows, or have an x86 processor. In compsci, you'll likely be doing some low level courses that involve using x86, and you may find that virtualizing your own custom x86 bootloaders and drivers is a hassle. For engineering students, you might find a lot of software you need is not available for MacOS, and M1 can't dualboot x86 Windows like you could before with bootcamp. Make sure you get an idea of what software you need and what your school expects before making a long term purchase decision.

    As someone with the Aspire 5, the first laptop, I gotta say that for the price, it's killer. Picked it up for 350, 90 dollars more for a 1tb SSD, and it's honestly so good. I don't know what Dave means, but the screen is not that dim, and the keyboard is responsive...? I think he's dabbled with too much high tech, but take it from someone who doesn't have that access to high tech stuff, this laptop is absolutely worth the investment. It's been keeping up with rendering my 4k art pieces, right out the box :)

      @@twoone7159 I use Clip Studio Paint Ex, and I've never experienced any problems! There might be times where, for example, you apply a gaussian blur or anything that involves high rendering, I imagine the laptop might take its time, but it should have upgrade capabilities to ram and storage which should help! And adding font always slows the program down, even on my pc, wacky. Hope this helped!

      @zee_rowe Před 2 lety +1

      @@ryan2-518 As of right now, since I haven't upgraded it yet, it's been running smooth with no worries. While I do not use the laptop frequently, it still has yet to slow down at all. And when using art programs that are pretty intensive, it still ran smoothly while using those. Hope this helps!
      In terms of longevity, I believe one ram stick is baked in with one open slot, I imagine it has a 16 gb limit, in an optimistic view, most likely an 8 gb cap, but that'd be 16 gigs total which should be good. The models change on Amazon, so you may not get exactly what I have, but I saw the sticks when I was adding storage, and I'm pretty sure I had 2 open slots with no baked in ram

    • @donjohnson2428
      @donjohnson2428 Před rokem

      I have one too with the 8th gen i3. Got it on Amazon for around $250-$300, can't remember exactly. Upgraded the RAM up to 12GB and it's been the perfect web browsing/CZcams watching laptop. Easily handled all of my academic workload (mostly reading PDFs and writing papers) as well. I would 100% recommend this laptop to anyone interested in it. What you get for what you pay is a bargain.
      The build quality is what you would expect for a sub-$400 dollar laptop, but it's not unlivable and you get used to it. Plus there's something endearing about getting all the functionality you need out of a budget-conscious machine. My only real qualms are with the speakers - they're not great, but I usually just plug headphones in anyways. The display leaves a little to be desired as well - I wouldn't want to stream a movie on this thing, but that's why I have a 65' OLED TV. All in all, as I said before I would highly recommend it to anyone on a budget who needs a reliable laptop for essential tasks.

      no worries, you can transform your gaming laptop into a productivity workhorse and your study assistant. i did the same thing, purchased a heavy, power hungry gaming laptop not thinking about the future consequences, even when my other devices were from apple( iphones, watch, ipad) yep, i was that dumb during the purchase. i regretted it, but after just forcing myself to read some study materials, resourceful articles, note makings, even attending lectures with an external webcam(yeah, my laptop doesn’t even have a webcam lol). i made my laptop with high end features n vast possibilities of upgrading, a dedicated study laptop.

    • @ibrahimoshodi4472
      @ibrahimoshodi4472 Před 3 lety +22

      Something that has helped me was buying an external hard drive, for two reasons:
      1. Obviously the extra storage. Put all the bigger games you know you won't play often on there, leave your faster boot drive for a few smaller or often played games
      2. That if you WANT TO FOCUS ON YOUR SCHOOLWORK, YOU CAN PUT AWAY THE GAMES. Whenever it's time to work, literally put away the external drive so you can't game if you wanted to since your library isn't with you on your laptop.
      Of course, you can plug it back in but it's a nice way to separate work from play actively by putting the games drive away til you're done studying

      Video editing is also quick and smooth. Laptop doesn’t get hot like the intels do, and you hardly ever hear the fan in the pros. It’s tempting, but coming from windows there is an adjustment phase, and you’ll want a window snapping app like rectangle(free) or paid ones to mimic windows. I prefer MacOS but a lot of my friends who use windows can’t stand Mac OS so it’s worth considering whether you can adjust comfortably.
      Also, there’s the danger of getting hooked into the apple ecosystem since you start to realize how well the iPad, iPhone Apple Watch work so well together.

      It is for good reason. Dave probably have the painful experience with butterfly keyboard macs like many of us have. While other macbooks with normal key mechanism are truly great for people who like and use macOS, coding or writing on butterfly keyboards is an absolutely miserable experience. No travel feels bad for starters, then the keys jam and don't recover. If all that doesn't happen by miracle, then it will still repeat some keys consistently. Doesn't matter how many times Apple replaces the keyboard under your warranty, it's the same shit that will repeat your keystrokes.

      @@jeanbutinfrench The fact that it even happened is a big deal. If you're a student and using your laptop, you likely don't have a spare. You have to either buy a separate keyboard and/or turn it in for Apple's repair program. On top of that, this issue is not fixed. The design is still faulty, keyboards will still fail, and eventually, they will stop covering it for warranty repair. You'll be stuck with a very expensive lemon.
