Im hispanic, with straight hair. I went freeform, and took 2 years to lock up. 7 years later I have a full set of dreadlocks. I shaved the sides and the back tho.

I’m mex w dreads, I would say just twist n rip, crotchet and have a good wash schedule 🤞🏼 (retwist or barrel braids every month or so)

“Can Mexicans get dreads?” is such a ridiculous question tbh. Mexico is almost as diverse as the U.S. and literally anyone can have Mexican as their nationality. Do you know how many Haitians settle in Mexico instead of going to the United States? They then have kids there who are Mexican by birthright, and their hair texture is the prime candidate for Dreadlocks.

Just free form them anyone can get locks. Wash your hair once a week and don't brush I'm 3 years in and my free forms are fantastic. I have very straight hair

I Disagree. I’m black and have had dreads for 8 years. We were NEVER the only culture who had dreads, we just made them the most prevalent and popular. I do think that our hair looks the best dreaded tho. But it’s not “ours”.
I guess you can say the MODERN POPULAR DREADLOCK LOOK is ( *FROM* ) us which I agree with.
And I do think that straight hair doesn’t look good in dreads. But it’s not our place or right to tell other people what they can or can’t do to their hair, regardless of if we think their hair looks nice that way or not, others think the same about us for some hairstyles, so it’s best we just respect each other and let each other live our own lives as long as we aren’t hurting each other.
Cultural appropriation is a dumbass term tho
By the way. Cultures sharing ideas, beliefs, styles, ways of life, technology, etc, with each other and helping each other is a major part of the HUMAN EXPERIENCE and what makes our species so special, and allowed us to get to the point we are now.
