    Hello Cathy,
    Wonderful video full of very useful information. I appreciate the usage of the sticks for kindling. I too try to use everything without waste. It is terrible to see what people put in their garbage cans. I have a mulch pile and I add kitchen scraps to it everyday. But I digress.

    Really long intro but a great way to harvest thyme! I started picking off the tiny leaves and really wasn’t a fan but this is such an easy way to do it!!

    Thanks for the tips. When I first started, I too was a fanatic for trying to strip 'all' the leaves from the stem. Now, I just use the same method as you do

      Hi Stan,
      Yes, I used to be more picky but then I found that I couldn't keep up with harvesting from the garden without being less particular. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment. Take good care.

    I literally just spent my evening pulling off the herbs stalk by stalk,, never thinking to just tie them together and make do, Lol.. I purchased a Stack It herb dryer and it worked fantastic. 6 layers of herbs all dried and crushed in my small chopper. Next batch will be tied in bunches.. 🙌

    My Lemon Thyme was already bloomed (Received for my birthday) in this early spring, but I just trimmed the plant & small bit to where I can't hang it, so should I just put in a cut paper bag in a cool dark place to dry? Then take all off of the short stems please? Anyone know as I'm new to this, but trying, smiles... 😘 🌹🌈💞🎵🌷🌺🌸😆👏👍💫🌟💛 ☘️

      Hi Ruby,
      You can just spread the out on a screen to let them dry. You want to avoid mold so air circulation is important. Hope this helps.

    Sorry I'm confused, is there a type of Thyme that naturally has a lemon scent or did you add lemon to it already?

  • @writofmandamus

    What do you use to crush your herbs? Do you worry at such lower quantity you lose a lot of the oils that stick onto the utensil or container that you crush it in?

    • @HuckleberryHA
      @HuckleberryHA  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi! Truthfully, I just crush them in my hand only when I am currently cooking with them. The more crushed they are sitting in the storage jars the more they loose flavor so I leave them loose and crush them when I need them.

    But if you use a fine food chopper the small pieces of stems taste just like the leaves.

    Hi, I have a thyme plant that is covered in flowers, can I still dry it out with flowers on? Also can I use it fresh with flowers on e.g to make thyme tea. Thank you Lisa

    • @HuckleberryHA
      @HuckleberryHA  Před 8 lety

      Hi Lisa,
      I dry it with the flowers on it sometimes. You can always just trim the tips or pull some of the flowers off before you dry it. You can still pull them off after drying it's just a little more difficult to identify them among the dried leaves. Either way it won't hurt to have a few flowers mixed in:) I do believe the fresh time would give you a tea but I have never tried it myself. Enjoy. Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment.

    Do I wash thyme first before drying?

    • @HuckleberryHA
      @HuckleberryHA  Před 2 lety

      I only wash them if I believe they have been covered in something. If you do wash them make sure they are really dry when you bunch them and don't make the bunches too large as mold will grow in the dampness.
      Hope this helps.

      I really like knowing that I grew the herbs myself and they really are so much more robust having not been over crushed and dried in a big processing plant. You should absolutely do this for yourself. Have fun:) Thank you very much for watching and for taking the time to leave a lovely comment.
