  • Here's my ASMR version of my latest video, that shows how these tiny cups are made. If you'd rather watch the fully narrated edition, that goes into FAR more detail about each step, you can find it here: • Making 100 Miniature Mugs
In this weeks video I'm creating 100 miniature mugs, espresso cups, (a little on the large side), that were made as gifts to be sent out with my book to certain people. I cover the throwing, trimming, attaching and pulling the stoneware handles, how I dry them effectively so cracks don't form, the bisque firing, waxing, glazing, reduction firing to cone ten, (1290ºC) and finally how I sand their bases once unpacked from my Rohde gas kiln. There's a lot of steps in this video! Thanks so much for taking your precious time to watch!

I made four large mugs yesterday, trimmed the bottoms and put three handles on. I sure can't imagine doing this many but I haven't done production work before.

Trimming is like making a piece twice. No need to trim mugs or most forms... bowls maybe...

Florian, I've just started reading your book, just barely into it actually. You are the same age as my son who is a software engineer and has been a doing pottery as a hobby for a few years. I am a potter of about 10 years. I'm loving reading your words and knowing your voice from your videos makes it even better. You are a fantastic writer as well as artist. I can't wait to have more time to get deeper into the book. Thanks.

Hi again sir Florian! 😊 What's the time frame for throwing them all and then trimming them all? Also wondering why you chose the wax method over just wiping off? Just a preference or is it something more technical? Thanks for your vids!

Do you have any recommendations for repetition throwing by eye? I'm trying to make a set of 10 identical mugs but I dont have a throwing gauge. Thanks

You can just stick a brush on a long dowel or a chop stick even, into a lump of clay at the desired height and width, then throw to that. You don’t need a throwing gauge. Good luck!
