The block of feta on top, instead of crumbles is to assure customers you're not serving them someone else's leftovers.
Tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, cucumber are always in the Greek salad. Never lettuce
You really lucked out with amazing food/friends, the ride outside of Athens showed us a part of the country most miss out on. Thanks for showing us around and making me hungry :)
I read that Diporto has been in business since 1887
what a great video, loved seeing the suburbs of Athens with that awesome restaurant, view and OMG the food looked so good!
wow that last restaurant the food looked amazing
The whole road trip experience is what you get when you have a greek as a friend. The beautiful nature, the amazing food, the huge portions, the long nice conversations about everything and nothing at the same time and generally the feeling of free, happy and fulfilled...YES THIS IS THE AUTHENTIC GREEK EXPERIENCE. Now imagine doing this in the countryside by the sea or in a snowy cozy village up in the mountains.
Sounds great except for the heat and drought.
@@Vbluevital Heat and drought is about 3-4 months. Winter is cold and rainy.
Nice food and place at your final restaurant. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, this video was absolutely amazing! 🇬🇷🍽 I loved seeing all the hidden gems and delicious Greek food in Athens. The journey through the markets and the secret restaurant experience were so authentic and exciting. 🚶♂🏛🍷
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful adventure and giving us a glimpse into the real Athens. Your enthusiasm and detailed exploration made me feel like I was right there with you! 😍
Do you have any tips for finding these hidden local spots when traveling to a new city? 🗺✈
Keep up the great work! Can't wait for more of your travel vlogs! 👍🌟🍊
Thanks! Just ask around! Locals will tell you where to go!
Lovely to watch this. I've eaten there back when I lived in Greece. I still visit Athens a lot but haven't been there in a long time. Time to go there again. One of the last few genuine places to eat.
The food tour continues in full force.
Wow-got to get to Greece, that food looked insane.
It's delicious!
I like very much your traveling videos. You always travel in placed I have not been.
The food looked absolutely delicious at the end.
That is a lot of meat. Looks very good.
Throwing the bread....ahaha....very funny....Ok have a good time and fun
I just eat but now I'm hungry again watching your vidoe 😅
Hope you enjoy!
Lovely gal for lunch maybe you should have paid. 😊 Nice way to stay cool being on a lower level. Beautiful markets with a mouth watering dinner.
Pleased to hear you've wisely chosen to detour for air defense.
I actually did pay. =)
Johnny I forgot to ask, is the graffiti situation just as bad in Crete and the other major islands or is it mainly problem around Athens and the big cities in mainland Greece?
It's mostly Athens, but it's all over unfortunately as the young generation thinks it makes them special or they're fighting the big government doing so.
"Greece has had a long and turbulent history, and graffiti has played its part as a medium through which those seeking political and social freedom have expressed themselves. Perpetrators of this kind of expression often risked imprisonment, or even death, for daring to challenge the oppressive authorities of, even recent, years.
Much of this type of expression can be seen in Greece and remains as a testament to those who challenged the authoritarian regime of the time, which continued until as recently as 1974. This is unlikely to be removed.
GREEK GRAFFITI
Paradoxically, although Greece is the birthplace of Democracy, it is one of the youngest in Europe, and the Colonel's Junta is still a recent memory for many. So we come to another reason why graffiti is tolerated more in Greece. The authorities are less inclined to stamp out this kind of expression for fear of appearing overly dictatorial and oppressive."
@@JohnnyFD shame... I hope they get their shit together and clean it all up ASAP
Really liked the goddess, hope she shows up again and that food you had ALL day. I want to taste that tzatziki
Don’t double dip. From now on just take one chip and end it.
😆
Wow that restaurant where they give you pitchers of wine looked fantastic. I wouldn't even care what the food tasted like---the atmosphere was perfect.(I'm sure the food must have been great though). Also you remarked that fire might be a good thing----and that's true because in Mediterranean climate zones (similar to So. Calif.) many of the plants have become adapted to fire and their seeds don't germinate unless there has been a fire recently. It's a natural cycle.
Gorgeous Greek Girl!
Johnny is a playa! Play on playa
Greek food is the best food overall and the Greek diet is considered the key to increased old age. As by their older population with little or no cancer among them.
Jonny, I missed you in Athens by a couple of weeks. It would have been awesome to meet you in person! love your stuff and hope all is well with everything going on in the Kharkiv area now.
❤️🇬🇷❤🇬🇷❤️
It was an amazing evening and super fun meeting you ,and interesting conversation also with our rock-climbing German tavern-neighbours 😊 hope to see you again in Athens or Ukraine. Safe travels my friend 😊😊
It was awesome! Thanks again for showing me around! That meal was excellent! The Germans were super interesting to talk to as well!
"Fyli" here is a place name, but the actual meaning of the word is "race" or "tribe".
How much was last meal ?
It was kinda of expensive for Greece to be honest. The total was 30 Euros each person, so around $33.
@@JohnnyFD The meat prices (and everything in general actually) kinda jumped 30% from one day to another since Putin. Not sure why though, maybe just an excuse.
I want that raw garlic toasted bread, stinkyness be damned. It sounds like heaven. As an Italian friend once told me, "if everyone is eating garlic, no one stinks".
great video reminds me of a trip to greece many years ago. I met up with some Americans 2 bros & 1 bros girlfriend. Thru them we met a greek fellow who would show movies in tavernas in remote towns in Crete. He took us on one of these movie nights it was so much fun! The next night I said I would pay for dinner and he took us to a town about 1 hour from Heraklion where he said he knew the owner and the food was much better. We had steak (it was goat) and it was grilled. The goat steak and the sides were wonderful along with the delightful company was a memorable experience I still think about after all these years. Johnny some of the commentors make remarks about whether you "got lucky or what" it really isn't important in my opinion, but along the way you a meeting of the minds with locals and fellow travelers that's important. I still keep in touch with people I met on that Greek trip many years ago.
That's an awesome experience you had, it's the beauty of travel!
💙🇬🇷💙
I really like Athens trip I really enjoyed watching I give u 👍
Ohh Johnny, don’t throw bread literally! Never to a woman even if she says it. Tour de force in food & markets! Well done champion!
I love Greek food!! 😃😍
No graffiti 😂
So pretty! Was she American or from somewhere else??
Canadian =)
A crumbled cheese has anti caking chemicals
The greek humuus is usually the santorini fava dip..even better than hummus
We don't call it Humous though. It's Φάβα - Fava, made from yellow Cheek Peas
You dog I’m stuck in California planning Italy in the fall
🔝
The fruits at that stall and your taverna feast looked absolutely amazing (as does the Greek Goddess you're with 😂). Wowzers, get in there Johnny my son!
Is she local? She has a canadian accent when she say with. But there is a Theo in greek.
All the Graffiti makes the City look horrible….Kind of like Berlin aswell 😢
Yes, it's terrible the attitude of people who would do that to their own city. They have no respect.
Oki Johnny please say u got little lucky with that fabolus girl in black. I see u had a great day. Have the best of day and Take Care
It was a long day on the boat, I went home after. =)
@lars6849 ...she was a little freak looked like a real good time ....Like # 1 ...Zulu
@@JohnnyFD thats why you are a eremit....lolol....lolol...and so am i!
So much Graffiti
Italy and Greece have a lot of graffiti because they invented it. Greece is super fun and filled with nice people. Don't let the graffiti discourage you.
Persimmons yum. My mom made the best persimmon pudding. Nice video Johnny!
Loved the lovely lady in black. She has real personality! The she disappeared! Does she have a name? She has an American accent, but is she Greek, Greek-American, or what? Inquiring minds want to know!
She's Canadian. Legend has it, she's still eating and drinking at the restaurants 😂
I've never seen so much graffiti since back in the 80s growing up in the Bronx 😮😅
We do have a thing for Graffiti in Athens!😂😂😂🤌🏽
Hi Johnny.
How is the housing situation in Athens. What is the average rent for an apartment since you've been there.
I'm looking into Goudi, Zografou, Ampelokipoi
As a Greek citizen, i can tell you that in the mentioned areas its quite expensive. For 40-50m2 the rent now is about 500-600€.
Go to Glyfada, Voula, Kifisia to see some good suburbs of Athens.
This is the authentic low cost Greek food, that every tourist have to give a try on the suburb of Athens! Next time let us know for your arrival in advance!!!
Save some food for the rest of the country!
Its actually so sad a secret local restaurant like διπορτο is now known by everyone
Which is why they charge "everyone" prices? Or was that comparatively cheap?
Throwing bread like this its quite a no do in Greece actually. It's a disrespectful gesture to bread the most basic food.
need to add water on this bird to work properly
Metropolitan athens or attica region has 50 dofferent cities with 4 million population. Athens is the biggest city of attica region 660000 people. 4:23 no
Sad to say, but Athens looks filthy
How to say you haven't travelled much by not saying you haven't travelled much.
It's the disgusting graffiti that makes it look that way. =(
Those poor birds do not have any toys in that cage. Cruel. All stuffed in one cage like that😢
So much graffiti that a sign would be tagged.
The Greek Goddess is flirting with Johnny. 😁
Hope you asked for her phone number and address.
Why would I ask for her address? 😂
@@JohnnyFD
You might want to go visit her one day. 😁
What Country was she from?
I can say That she liked what she saw. 🥰
BRB, off to Canada! =)
@@JohnnyFD Is she one of those French Canadians? I could tell she had an accent.
I mean lettuce
Brother. ...what happen with the pretty young lady? One minute she was there then next clip she is gone.😅
Oops, I must have accidentally ate her. 😂

What have they done e to my beautiful Greece….that looks horrible …ghetto..slums
10:55 The most authentic place I've seen in Athens. Man, that's for tourists, not authentic.
There were mostly Greeks eating there. And the food is authentic. Show us a better place in the city center if you know of one.
There is no salad
fast boiz
throwing stuff in her plate. how rude.
0:52 Multiples layers of graffiti! 🤮 People take no pride in their city.
Do think the Russian's will honor your apartment deed in Kharkiv?
Pointless negative comments try think positively and don't let the Russian evil affect your midset
Loser
You are hardly managing 10k with your vids. The "Bald Effect" is long gone. Will you sell spa stuff again in the future?
How rude, hope your not a regular

@@curiousnomadic bald puts out new videos about once every two months 😂
No wonder Athenians have had enough of mass tourism
What great food Johnny. I love the huge feta cheese portion w yr salad, that is how they used to serve Greek Salad. Glad u r meeting awesome people and having a blast.Until next time.😊
