Being a retired Diesel engineer and also a life long motorbike fan and rider i would have one tomorrow 😁😁🤘🤘
"I would have one tomorrow".....over an electric bike! 😂
@@sbkpeace.24without a moments hesitation. Electric is flawed and won't last. It's already presenting the problems that will ki.ll it. Hydrogen is the future, mark my words.
@@sbkpeace.24 no thanks. electric have the same torque and none of the vibrations. I don't want a ride to become a milkshake
@@JP-xd6fm no thanks
No combustion, no character.
I want it thumping so much it spills my milkshake !!
@@JP-xd6fm Thats great if you don't want to go very far or very fast and don't mind paying two or three times as much for a similar spec bike.
Notice that honker of a flywheel - necessary to get enough oomph stored for the next compression stroke.
Not necessary for higher cylinder count. V8 diesels do not suffer from this
@@THESLlCK Very true. A six doesn't either, not much, and most big truck diesels are sixes.
@@Baribrotzer A 4 cylinder Would have Much Less vibrations !!! ! !!! 🙂
@@bustjanzupan1074 But then you'll need a flywheel cuz the difference between the 3 and the 4 cylindres engine function (i'm meaning the way they cylinders move)
Inline 6 is smoother than V8@@THESLlCK
Hell, I'd buy one right now. BTW, now is 2024.
Ill check with thé PN emission tester ..😂
Should have made a Touring bike rather than a sports bike as the only benefit seems to be range and fuel economy.
Maybe should also try installing that engine on larger size touring bike like Honda ST 1300 , Goldwing or other adventure touring machines , just to see how far one tank of diesel can the machine go .
They left the deal breaker right at the end. It vibrates like a jackhammer, no body wants a touring bike that does that. All diesel motorcycles I have seen vibrate a lot and unlike cars there is no substantial body mass to isolate the rider from it.
That's the main reason there are no diesel motorcycles.
Touring bike with sidecar immediately came to mind with the amount of torque ...
@@tommaguzzi1723 If that IS the main reason , that sounds like a problem that is solvable.
@@tommaguzzi1723 It would be perfect for a Harley then.😃
@@tommaguzzi1723 Look at the mirrors @2:58.
Kind of proves your point.
how bloody cool is that 🙂
fair play to them
I have seen it. And its really nice 👌
I don't think I'd be complaining too much about that little bit of smoke under WOT when you're getting 110+ mpg. on diesel fuel! The puff of smoke is easily gotten rid of, by adjusting the fuel ramp on the injector pump. You lose a little bit of your 'off the line' performance, but still have the top end hp. & torque. I'm pretty sure it smooths out nicely in the normal operating range compared to low idle. 100 hp. is nothing to sneeze at, for only 1200 cc's. displacement, especially with the massive torque behind that 100 hp..😉
Diesel is usually not a problem for the user, more for those who follow behind…it stinks, especially if exhaust is not equipped with the latest catalyst filter
My moms Polo with 1,2 Liter 75hp Turbo Diesel felt like a quick little car, and it feels a LOT quicker then the 100hp petrol 1,6 liter Golf she has now. A 1,2 liter 75hp turbo diesel in a motorcycle will feel like a rocket...
Yes uncle. Thank you come again
2.5l/100km is 112mpg
What’s not to love? ♥️
There’s a whole world out there
Or 94mpg if you use the other measurement for the size of a gallon :(
My honda rc51 sp1 drinks petrol like an alcoholic
My 81 vw rabbit pickup with a 1.9 tdi swap makes almost 300tq
And gets 75mpg.
Don’t believe me???
My engine was rated 54mpg in a vehicle that weighs 30% more
And is 3x as fast as when it was brand new.
And that’s American gallons.
Give me a euro gallon and a flat road and I could knock on 100mpg
This is too cool, rotary bikes, diesel bikes need to come back
Very nice we have these pioneers! Royal Enfield has made diesel motorcycles for a long time. They consume 1,5 liters per 100km.
Wtf, nope....
Perfect to pull a trailer
Oh man I want one i love it
Should've called it the smog star
with a consumption of 40 Km/L how much smog do you think can be released?!?
STFU and study chemistry
Most if its vibrations is because it's a three cylinder. I'd love to have one.
CRF 450 is much more a vibrator and is bought and used regularly.
Im on Ebay now looking for a honda ST1300 tourer frame, a bare 1.2Tdi block and a milling machine 😉
Would love to have one!
Go Kees🤗
I really would like to see a video about the Y2K turbine motorcycle from Marine Turbine Technologies.- Have a nice day...
I got to see one in person while driving in Scottsdale, AZ at night. I followed that poor guy as long as I could - probably thought I was going to rob him or something. In any case, it was really cool and LOUD.
That’s down the street from me 🤟🏻. He used to drive it to the gumbo cookoff
Looks like it got it's emission quality direct off the shelf from VW :O 5:29
I'd love to have an adventure turbo diesel 3 cylinder motorcycle - that would be amazing
Awesome bike, tachometer’s abit optimistic!
My dream bike
Ik heb dat ding in het eggie gezien (Assen), prachtig stuk werk echt waar. Jammer dat er niets meer mee gedaan word.
Werd ie nieteens gestart?
I'd buy that Bike on it's looks alone & 700 kms on a Tank, but the vibrations could be a pain?
My moms Polo 1,2 liter turbo diesel with 75hp felt a lot more quick then my 115hp 2 liter Mazda 626 turbo diesel... That same 1,2 liter in a motorcycle would feel like a rocket ;)
😮woooooowwwwwwww!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I would gladly own one
Is that the motor where vw rigged the engine to show low emissions while it was on the test roller?
I have a passion for efficiency. Since people go happilly with a 1300cc motorcycle saying it's a confort on a highway, then some kind of boxter engine 2 cylinder similar to BMW could be an option with the right gearing
i want this bike :D :D :D
I would absolutely love a bike like that the vibration can't be worse than a Harley and they get pretty poor milage
Was zur hölle, ist ja geil
My Z1000SX accelerates like a beast in any gear too.
Torque itself means nothing, 250Nm at 3000rpm are equivalent to 125Nm at 6000rpm or 62Nm at 12000.
Power is the key, and proper gearing.
Imagine a Moto GP Class for Diesels 😳 That would Change the Game! 👍
Motorcycle Gems like this are lost in time 😔. Many people will be ready to buy one if an actual big brand with properly designed balanced and ready for production.
Yes diesel motorcycles would have been great if r&d was done properly, specially in the engine segment.
In my shop I have the milling machine and laptop with cnc post processor , drawings on it from the guy milling all kind of parts for this bike. Bought it in 2009 2 years after the shop owner passed away from his widow. She only knew her husband made parts for Star Twin and she was stuck with millingmachine and laptop with cadcam software on it after his passing and wanted to get rid of it.
Aren't all motorcycles developed in CAD before assembling them? I mean if you allready have a motor what is there to test?
Brands should have explored deisel motorcycle tech . Its so underrated in bike world . With torque engines could be made smaller capacity withvery good efficiency
Engine braking?
Drop from 5th to 2nd and compression lock rear?
Slipper clutch?
use a slipper clutch
The full name of "wp suspension" still sounds kinda daring if u ask me
Couldnt they add a counterweight for the middle cylinder to match the weight of the two other pistons? Guessing that would prob result in a loss of power though
You can balance a 3-cylinder only with 2 contra-rotating balance shafts. But still you have gaps in powerstrokes delivery since it’s a 3 cylinder. Although looking at big-bang firing intervals that might be concidered a benefit? I don’t know
Put one in a hill climb event please.
When I think of sport bikes, light weight, nimble handling, and a high revving engine usually comes to mind first. This bike is the polar opposite of all that.😅
Perhaps on a two wheeled arm chair, but not a sport bike.
name a 100+ HP sports bike that's lighter. 😂
the Honda CBR 650 and CBR 1000 weigh almost the same at 210 / 203 kg. 😂
Dual sport / enduro version, please!
I wish they made it to the dealerships across the world.
Bout time
this is future of racing bike?
🔥🔥🔥🔥👊✊👍🏍️
riding position too high for me but a great concept
That diesel idle is terrible :D But seems like a fun thing when in the move.
it was last registered in 2016
A smaller bike maybe in the 500/750 class would have the advantage of running economicaly and if the government tryed to control fuel or increase tax then you can run diesel engine on lots of different fuels
sounds like a mini digger
LUPO POWER
Torque is what makes a vehicle fun to operate !
Where is the dpf? Where do I put the urea water?
There is no dpf lol. Yeah considering emission requirements, diesel motorcycles will never be a thing in the future. Emission cleaning for diesels is complex, heavy and expensive. Also they carb up, especially smaller diesel engines. The future of motorcycles will most definitely be electric or gas hybrid.
Surely you could get extremely high mpg with a 1 or 2 cylinder diesel bike since the weight is so low. Even with 2 cylinders the engine would not have to work very hard to propel a bike to adequate speed
Can’t see this competing with electric, for out of corner acceleration. Although it’s always good to have choices.
Sounds like a normal motorcycle, but something horribly wrong has gone in the engine 😂
Dry clutch. They are a ducati dealership after all
Does anybody remember, when they turned a few of those Royal Enfield bikes, in the diesels, the 350s???
This thing's got a dry plate racing clutch on it!!!
But I think I would rather have that many cc's in a two-stroke.
Just saying..............
Jeez that noise would frighten a Ducati rider. Probably sounds better in real life.
That is a Cagiva Raptor face

Doesnt matter how fancy the diesal or what you put it into, it still sounds like a tractor lol. And i say this as the owner of a modded diesal ford focus. And yes despite the money ive spent i still call it the tractor
They should have had Gale Banks work on it that tune is so far off from being correct with all that black smoke!
royal enfield had diesel powered motorcycles in old times...
The amount of serendipity is almost uncany. I lived only a few miles from Star Twin for about 10 years. At the time I was building up my Grifone Special (which see), based on a Ducati Pantah 600 TL. Whenever the head scratching became too loud they did some maintenance work for me. One day I stepped into the shop and there it was. It turned out the bodywork design had been the subject of a design competition in a dutch motorcycle magazine. And I had totally missed out on it! A thing I regret to this very day. I however still did produce some unsolicited sketches (Hm, there might actually be a theme there) for 3 variations (including a touring and adventure version). These where shown at the 2004 Dutch Ducati Club races at the Assen TT circuit, as was my Grifone. It was however clear the project was loosing speed already. The complexities of building a diesel motorcycle can be rather daunting. A petrol bike will still more or less run unoptimized but a diesel can be a very stubborn beast to wake. One only has to think about the precise pressure conditions which have to be met to get optimal self-ignition. It's great to actually see it and hear it run in this video at last. Until now I have never been able to find proof of that (No, it did also not run around or even growl in the pit boxes at Assen). By the way: I also had a meeting there with Roel van der Heide of the ChiQuane hub-steered bike project. Now if there is one Dutch project which deserves this sites attention it's that one! (Hint!)
Mini tractor
I would have love to see more of these roling non stop for 700km... what a messthese are not the futur.
I would totally have one and vibration can easily be removed with modern tech, shit put a turbo on that thing an it would fly. There is a reason why edison motors is looking at running diesel engines as generators for electric vehicles as you can potentially have the power of an electric motor with massive range with a super fuel efficient engine

2,5 Liters per 100km...
@@GioJonnhyK probably less, the 3L rating on the lupo and audi A2 3L was so conservative that VW and audi added back in basically all of the optional extras they removed from the 3L models to reduce fuel consumption and still hit the target
I would like to get VW 2.0 L Turbodiesel motorbike with 180 hp and 280 Nm. And about 3 L/ 100 km that would be wonderfull even if it wibe little...
you need 2 o 3 cylinders, not more.
and a 1.5 3 cylinders TDI can output over 200 hp
@@GioJonnhyK yea but 3 syl. shake a lot moore than 4 syl.
@@CU65LATER not true
@@GioJonnhyK Ask me how i know that ? Everybody knows that... .lol Specially diesel engine.
100 kilometres on just 3 liters equates to 75mile to the U.S. gallon of diesel fuel! Diesels are great for long range. Unfortunately weight has always been an issue. They tend to price themselves out of the market amd they are no match in performance against they're gasoline bikes. Now government enviromental restriction and EVs at a strong move diesel motorcycles never stood a commercial chance of success!
It's quite tragic to see a swingarm the girth of a toothpick on a bike where loads of torque is the key feature. It also looks ridicuolus with that massive chunk of metal infront of it.
Google some Dutch guys made a diesel bike.
I would be ashamed if you see me on that.
There’s a German guy still making diesel motorcycles they’re not very fast, but you can chill
It need much longer gear ratio so torq on wheel is not so impressive compared to gasoline engine.
Low rpm and fuel economy is nice but diesel performance, noise and smoke is bad.
Diesel performance is good and a bit of smoke is great also
@@paulreilly3904Great for what exactly?🤔
Yeah, and a hundred hp from a car engine is way better than a hundred hp from a pissy short stroke bike engine, could you imagine the swap the other way? No way a bike engine will ever drive a car well 😅 imagine the fuel consumption lol😂
There are an absolutely enormous number of motorcycle powered race cars and they're absolutely awesome. Radical Motorsports cars, Kartcross cars, Legends racing cars, Austin Minis, a bunch of hill climb cars, a bunch of different formula cars, Formula SAE, etc. There's even a Honda Goldwing powered Jeep on CZcams that moves around pretty darn well.
Why you need a diesel engine again?
cause efficiency is not your opinion.
250nm is not much , give wheel data where its probably 1000ftlb in 1st gear .

the only reason it dint work is because it had no fifth wheel option

I am sure poeple on the road will appreciate the exhaust fumes from that diesel engine, what would be the point if all it offered was torque, you may aswell just continue to have two strokes on the road way cheaper to build and most likely healthier than the diesel fumes.
