I'll say it, FNaF 4 was done dirty.
I think it has the best designs, characters, and story of the franchise and was worthy of having the Bite of 87 in it before the retcon.
Such a shame that it's mostly ignored by Scott and most of the community nowadays, even Sister Location gets more love.
I think that Nightmare Fredbear has the best design, best voice, and best origins. He's definitely on par or even above Springtrap. The quote about him being real was the coolest quote from the game.
That's just my thoughts on the game.

This was the only fnaf game that scared me, so much so i never got past night 3, out of context the nightmares' designs may feel goofy and overly or cartoonishly evil looking but in the context of the game and the dark hallways, they really do work well, i feel it was a natural progression once the idea of things moving that shouldn't stops being scary.

regarding the "blast your ears off" complaint, I agree that saying the game relies on doing so to scare you is baseless, but I DO take issue with how high you have to crank the volume just to BARELY hear the sound cues that are CRUCIAL to the gameplay, only to have the jumpscares SO LOUD it can literally actually cause hearing damage. It makes it inaccessible to anyone with less-than-near-perfect hearing, and dangerous to anyone who plays. It is a great game though. I just can't play it because of the VAST difference in decibels between the breathing sound cues and the jumpscares.

I absolutely love Nightmarionne. Because Nightmarionne is the best well designed character, and in my opinion a character that is criminality underused in this franchise. In fact, I have had a theory about this version of the puppet for a long time now. And my theory is that Nightmarionne is the physical representation of death itself. Because the original Puppet in FNAF 2 is supposed to give life to the dead kids that Afton has killed right? But Nightmarionne, I think he give death to people. A sort of a grim dark version of the puppets give life sort of idea in FNAF 2.
IN fact look at his appearance in FNAF VR for example in the mini game, "Night Terrors". Nightmarionne is literally trying to get to you. And all you have is a flashlight to make him go away. In fact the mini game night terrors even adds to my theory about Nightmarionne. A representation of death itself, coming for you in anyway it wants. Under your bed, in your closet, on your ceiling, or even behind your own door. And that is truly terrifying. I know it might be a theory, but a theory that could be possible.

My biggest issue (Besides the aforementioned fact that the game forces you to set your volume stupidly high only to deafen you with a jumpscare.) is the total lack of uncanny valley the animatronics have had in literally all the other games. For me the horror of FNAF was mostly in it's visual design and humanoid robots that are just inhuman enough to make you feel afraid of them. FNAF 4 ditches that completely for a generic horror monster look, which in my opinion throws the entire point of FNAF out of the window.

Great game analysis! I may not agree with you but this is really well put together, and reaches a wide variety of aspects. I will say I did greatly enjoy playing FNAF 4 and doing the challenges (of which I still haven’t done them all :P). I will say one thing: if you play so that Foxy never enters your closet, it’s an amazing gameplay loop, however I feel that once Foxy is in the closet, the gameplay loop immediately deteriorates.
I enjoy gameplay loops where you have to make decisions: in FNAF 4 this is, do I go to the left door, right door, or bed? There are so many factors that go into this: how long it’s been since you’ve flashed Freddy, where Foxy is, the last time you flashed Bonnie or Chica, where Bonnie or Chica is, what footsteps you’ve heard, how much the screen is flashing black, many many things. This is why I find the gameplay loop so enjoyable. Once Foxy’s in, you can just do: left door, right door, closet, bed, repeat. Boring. Anyways, that’s all I’m here to say. Thanks for reading :3

time to gladly ramble about my love for this game
Five Nights At Freddy's 4 along with Sister Location are the most unique enties in this series and i'm ALL for it. Just the menu along is untherworldy and feels outta place. Usually you get rough static but NOPE just a silenc score with what sounds like wolves in the back.
The atmosphere and sound design is to me AT IT"S BEST in this game the clock chime, the dog barking the silent melody while gentle doesn't feel safe. The bedroom is a simple yet effective location the creaky doors that BEARLY hold back the animatronics ans the fact that a simple ordinary flashlight is ALL you have to fend off DEAMONS is again simple yet affective as your tools are so unreliable in the first game you doubt your safty a lot but you NEVER doubt that the doors will keep you safe.
The story is my FAVORITE one in ALL of FNAF all you know is you're a young boy who is afraid of the animatronics and has a Psychic Friend Fredbear. The way this is expanded upon the brother randomly harassing you outta nowhere,to being locked in the backroom all leading up to the party. You're on the floor crying as usual and the brother done got his whole squad on your ass. They take you to give Fredbear a big kiss and then.......
CLAMP! Your head is crushed by the animatronic's massive jaw and all your brother and his gang can do is watch in horror and regret.
The final scene of the child(or Evan as we cal him) is last seen talking to his Psychic riend Freadbear(Matpat's gone so let me enjoy this) while one by one hid Freddy,Bonnie,Chica and Foxy plushies dissapear living Fredbear and he makes a promise to "put him back together" and then vanishes and all we hear is a silent flatline as Evan passes on.
Just damn that's so cold, sad yet epic this game is usually just seen a s"trying to hard" or "jumpscare simulator" but I see it as the tale of how bullying can get you and others into some really deep shit. This game obviously deserves this score which is a perfect 8/8

To Scott's credit, I can't visualize any way to add a visual cue to someone creeping up behind your door. also, points to Scott for having Foxy sneak into your closet have a visual cue. while not every game is going to cater to everyone, it does suck when some demographics are inherently barred from engaging with them.

The issue with sound that I hear the most and agree with that makes it a flaw isn’t that the same relies on sound. Because most the rest after 4 do too.
It’s the fact that like you said everything is quieter. So you’re listen to a quiet subtle “breathing” and in the event you miss it you’re punished with an extremely loud obnoxious scream. That feels cheap.
Missing an intentionally muddied “breathing” sound effect to be punished with an overly loud jumpscare.
I’ll grant you that yea it make it the scariest. But not for the environment but simply the shock of the noise.
“But that is the point, to scare you.” And is the cheapest way to do so. I’d say it’s a difference of scared and startled. 4 startles me.
That’s the point of the game, but the only part I find scary is the story, the build up to the bite was more effective then the environment to me. Not them lurking in the halls of the Freddie’s cackling on the bed. The story of child abuse, then a “oops you listened wrong” scream to shock. The game is meant to scare me, not just be startled by a overly loud scream.
Foxy’s false scare is the exception as that’s the only one I don’t anticipate. Fnaf 4 is designed so my walls are always up
Fnaf 1’s environment hits me more then the bedroom. Seeing them waiting at the door does it more then seen them slink away. Seeing what looks like could be a real robot freaks me out more then the over exaggerated nightmares etc.
For me at least that hurts 4 as a game. That leave 1 as the better game. But I do think 4 has the next best sound design.
It’s entirely subjective but the bedroom nightmare environment just takes away from the game for me.

I think it might be a personal preference I personally think the jumpscares work really well. The fact they can get you at any point on repeat playthroughs is super cool to me. Everyone I know personally who plays this game and has those thoughts isnt 100% invested as I am when playing. Though FNAF 1 is definitely with FNAF 4 when it comes to sound design

    • @anubion42
      @anubion42 Před 2 měsíci

@@jerakaigamez yea it’s entirely personal preference.
Best way I can put it is the big “scare” in 4 being just the jumpscare for me feels cheap. Where as the ambiance of 1 and camera effects (Bonnie’s head glitching around), feels more oppressive to me.
It’s weird I almost feel in less control in 1 vs 4.
But that’s again preference. Prolly a good part come from me favouring psychological horror more too. Like in the case of “vibes” nothing beats 3 for me even if I think it’s not great for replaying. The environment and atmosphere is just prefect for the situation.
But yea 1 and 4 sound designs are great. The circus then in one and foxys singing puts me on edge just as much as the grandfather clock.

Here’s why fnaf 4 is also easily trh worst one.
-no cameras to monitor the animatronics.
-Audio ques should help the player and not be mandatory.
-the story injured the fnaf community.
-the bite confused so many players.
-Freddy’s mechanic is just a chore and is easily avoidable. Foxy is annoying.
    - the doors suffer the same problem as the mask in fjaf 2.
-The games loop has the fnaf 2 problem. Check left, check right flash foxy. And flash Freddy for fnaf 4, but fnaf 2 was random, this is very predictable and almost feels scripted.
-WHAT DO THE FNAF 4 CLUES MSAN!!
-you need headphones so on mobile, and console it is really hard to play.

I personally don’t like it because of it’s repetitive gameplay which yes I know, alot of fnaf point and click games are repetitive but this one you are just moving back and forth. Also there’s only really one strategy that works so you can’t really make your own.

I hate the character designs because they lose the uncanny valley thing they just look absolutely ridiculous, with the exception of nightmarionne and to a lesser degree nightmare BB,but the base character design don’t look scary to me,also im not a fan of the gameplay, the running back and forth and whatever its just like boring and repetitive and tedious,i mean none of the games are scary after night 2 its just a resource management, but since fnaf 4 doesn’t have the element of resource management its just so blegh, probably my least favorite one from the classic 6 along with fnaf3.
