Story:
Leslie Caron is Sister Mary, the sole survivor of an Apache attack on a wagon train. She’s left to roam the countryside on a mule, trying to find her way to Sante Fe, when she comes across a gunman named Madron (Richard Boone). At first, he wonders what he’s gotten into, what with Sister Mary’s grand hours of silence, her insistence on burying the badest of bad men and her Friday fasts, even when she’s starving. But he soon grows more than a little fond of her, thanks in part to her surprising frontier moxy. Complicating matters are some Mexican bandits and a Apache named Sam Red. He and Madron have a violent history that has both men seeking vengeance.

The movie is enthralling, it has deepness, it is the hard core gunfighter who has lost all hope on mankind, including himself, and trapped by circumstances in a desert with a beautiful pure woman...and slowly regains hope in mankind, in himself, and ultimately falls in love...his last love...and sacrifices his life so that she may live...all enshrined in the nostalgic spell of the award winning score...a beautiful movie... The Wild, Wild Negev! A made-in-Israel Western. Could have been in a new film genre, the "Motzah Western". But alas they broke the mold on this one. Certainly not the best Western ever produced. But the two co-stars do a good job considering a so-so script. Richard Boone never fails in delivering a superb performance.
I enjoyed this film again and loved it as much as the first time.

Great movie I did have to chuckle at Guinea fowl impersonating a turkey and goats impersonating deer. The cimparison of the brutality with Antoinette attempting to follow her faith and attempting to somewhat civilize the Brigand is essentially the story of human existence and our attempts to overcome evil with goid.

It was a sage hen. But showed a wild Turkey gobbling. Sage hen does taste quite nice. Far better than turkey.

I always thought Richard Boone was under rated
He was unfortunately typecast as a bad guy by Hollywood because he was not a"pretty boy" by their standards. His looks were too rugged to play the good guy or a "romantic lead".
I love Richard Boone aka Paladine. I haven't watched this yet, I'm about to, however, I have to say, the description reads a bit like "Two Mules for Sister Sarah ".
