IT’S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP - A SoloDallas Cover for Bon Scott

- The SoloDallas team returns once again to honour AC/DC and singer Bon Scott on the 45th anniversary of their album HIGH VOLTAGE.
JP and Kris travelled to The Warehouse Studio and completed tracking and filming with iconic AC/DC sound engineer and producer, Mike “Fraze” Fraser. We were honoured to be able to work along side him on such a project, and look forward to future projects.
The team strived to achieve sounds and performances close to the original (even using tape and Neve console actually used by AC/DC for the past 20 years) for Malcolm’s guitar sound and Bon’s bagpipes. The rest of the production and the mix down were attained with modern means and technology.
We hope you’ll love our work - we certainly loved each second of our involvement for the months it took to complete.

By far the best AC/DC cover I've ever heard. Incredible accurate playing, especially. "Mal", Bon's voice is perfectly nailed. So much love to details, it sounds like they've deencoded the DNA of AC/DC. Hats off!

Wow that voice is easily the closest i have heard to Bon. We all know how you nail the tone on the guitars but damn that voice, when i close my eyes all i hear is Bon.

I was 11 years old in 1977 when Elvis died on 16th August. On the 17th I heard this track... 55 today and as I closed my eyes that track absolutely sounds like it was coming from the vinyl... Tear rolled down my face & a chill down my spine as the memory of seeing Bon on 6th Nov 1978..... Wow.... What an incredible tribute to an incredible voice... STU

SoloDallas, you and Michael Vincent can provide the answer to an age old question: what would AC/DC's later music have sounded like had Bon Scott survived?!! I have always tried to imagine iconic toons like Back n Black, For Those About to Rock, etc. with Bon on vocals. What a great experiment that would be! Please do it!

@@SoloDallas The thing is that you can get a soundalike to sing 'Back In Black', but you can't predict how Mr. Scott's songwriting input might have affected the lyrics themselves. The songs themselves would have been different, and there would have been other songs in addition because he wasn't just a vocalist but also a songwriter.
I enjoyed this cover however, so more power to you and the group whatever you decide to do.

@@Kowasi Yes, u are correct. The experiment would not be without flaws. But it's the best we can do. There are songs written by only Malcon & Angus. Perhaps they would offer the purist example of Bon doing Brian era stuff?

You guys ROCK and it’s 95% close to being the real thing, the other 5% is that I know it’s SoloDallas. If someone played me the song without knowing, I would have swore it was AC/DC without any second thoughts. I’ve been an AC/DC fan all my life at the rip age of 49 years old. Absolutely AWESOME 👏🏻

I have seen & participated in many ACDC covers and that my friends is simply the best. I mean.... He nailed Bon for God's sake!!! Anybody can woodshed and learn a good ACDC cover but Bon is a different beast. A+ boys!!! You killed it!

Just listened to this again and wow. This is so right on. The rawness. It sounds and feels like acdc. And that's the closest to Bon Scott l have heard. The rhythm carries the spirit of the brothers. And that underlying bass line. And of course the crack of the drums. Takes me back. It's a beautiful thing.

Not really, but now that you mention it, 1 thing I hope someone out there can answer; to my knowledge bagpipes are in the non-negotiable key of Bb - & Acca Dacca actually played it in that key! Dunno how they did it (except tinkering in the studio) since they're not capo guys & it would be a bit of an inconvenience to drag out 2 guitars & 1 bass tuned down a semitone for ONE song.

Taking on Bon Scott, brave. This is my favourite DC song and I have to say I enjoyed it very much and they even included the bagpipes.

I never really appreciated just how different the sound of Malcolm and Angus actually is, but this really highlights that very well.
There is the work of a life time to replicate this perfect piece. Some might not see the value, but these men are historians of rock and roll in their own right. If Harvard had a chair for hard rock these fellas could easily take on it.

This is totally mind blowing.................bagpipes and snare drums send shivers up my spine to this day. I grew up in a small Michigan town known as Scotland, USA. We had a Highland festival every year with a parade and Highland games........I still hear those bagpipes. Extraordinary effort to everyone involved in this venture. Thanks to Fil especially.

I was lucky enough to see Bon and the boys play this live back in 1975 at the local footy oval in Castlemaine, central Victoria Australia. The stage was a couple of truck trailers and Angus was on Bons shoulders ripping it up. Cool as fuck. You guys absolutely nailed it.
Nicely done! So happy to still hear the music I grew up on. I think it validates how good it was/is for the next generation.
