    This should be a top 5 golf swing drill/tip on all of youtube. No expensive aid, just a certain diameter rope anyone can buy at the hardware store. I also gained close to 10yards on my 60 degree wedge after watching Dr Kwon on Be Better Golf, because I was so prone to opening early on the downswing and/or pulling my arms. I am a single digit hdcp and I am confident I can get to scratch simply from watching less than 30 min of Dr Kwon. I now know why my misses are pulls or hooks and it’s easy to fix

Where the knot wraps around your chest hi or low determines which plane they are working on. Great, great drill.

    I have been using the step one and step two drill for a couple of years before even hearing about you. Now that I have been able to study your videos and those of Brendon I realize I was doing it quite incorrectly. Still I believe it was helpful in improving pressure transfer. Hopefully I can clean it up a bit but I think instruction might be needed.

You also have instruction with a driver, I have a Orangewhip which has a very flexible shaft which gives you an in between feeling of the rope and the shaft. Thank you Dr. Kwon. I am grateful for your knowledge. I'd be interested in your expertise on the differences in biomechanics of a female vs. male golf swing if there are any. Given women tend to have wider hips, generally shorter and less musculature I would think our mechanics might vary. (I think of the chair challenge which few men can accomplish but women do so easily). And if there are differences would love a video addressing women's swings. Most training content address men primarily. Thank you.

    • @bruceford9413
      @bruceford9413 Před 2 lety +2

      Hi, without going into a lot of detail you are 100% correct. Women's lower body is rs are stronger and upper weaker. What Kwon be teaches is essentially the swing used by Korean women pros from whom I take lessons. It minimizes the arm strength and utilizes the core. It works for everyone but is why smaller women will benefit. Look closely at most body types on LPGA and you will see lower body dominance. The tall slimmer ones have greater leverage at their disposal and don't need to look like they have had three or four kids.
      Play well

    I will be tryjng that tomorrow!! In your next video could you do the rope swing down the line. As i tend to be steep in the downswing as my hands tend to move out from the top it would be interesting to see if the rope is inside or on the same plane as the backswing. Your step drills have improved my game for sure but my takeaway has gotten a little low and inside. When the club is swung forward as a trigger the wrists and forearns have released but for me at least they want and need to roll back in the backswing which feels very natural coming from the club at 12 oclock, promoting the club to get inside rather than outside the hands at club parallel in the backswing and my trail elbow wants to fold quickly and move behind me to accomodate the faster motion of the club passing my body. I noticed when Brendan from bbg was drilling the 1st stage he was similar. Have you a thought on this ??? In brief how to keep the club path correct in the backswing. Perhaps I am throwing the club to around to the left as part of the trigger move but my arms are following my hips which are rotating open. At 12.33 of the Stage 1 if you play etc vid if you freeze it at club parallel the club is clearly way inside Brendans hands. Thanks again and love your work. All the best from Ireland!!!!

      Imagine a cone-shaped space in which you are allowed to move. You can move the pelvis and legs freely but the lateral motion becomes smaller at the top. This is the opposite to a sway. With this cone-shaped motion, you will be able to push the ground down and outward.

    Hi Dr Kwon, I love how the rope swing keeps me from rushing at the top. I worry about my real swing finish i.e. not finishing my swing during training. I would like to do 3-4 cycles of your rope swing and then a complete finish. Or do have a drill to aid in finishing a swing?

    • @drkwongolf
      @drkwongolf  Před měsícem +1

      With the rope, mainly work on developing an good body rhythm with a large number of continuous swings. You can put different levels of effort as you swing.
      With the club, you can limit the number of pre-swings to perhaps 3, and then 2, and then 1... Gradually moving to no pre-swing.

    Dr. Kwon, Thank you for this! Quick question, if I may? - Should the golfer be actively rotating the forearms in this drill? If so, when and to what end? (Or, will the arm rotation automatically occur if we focus on swinging the rope in plane?) Thanks!

    • @drkwongolf
      @drkwongolf  Před 2 lety

      The forearm motion (pronation/supination) is to promote the club motion. If you focus on continuous club (CH) motion throughout the entire swing, you will be able to find reasonable arm motion.

    Dr. Kwon, how would you compare the "Orange Whip Trainer" to your rope training drills.

    • @drkwongolf
      @drkwongolf  Před rokem

      Both are quite useful. They have slight different physical characteristics and you will need to work with them.

    I think the key here is how to kickstart the backswing in a real situation, where you cannot kickstart it by balancing the club the other way and thus you (myself) tend to either start a backwing very arms dominating or by sliding the hips. Is there a recommended thing thought or move?

    • @drkwongolf
      @drkwongolf  Před rokem

      Yes. The initial shift away makes the BS a lot easier. If you don't shift, you tend to use the arms.

    Hi Dr. Kwon, thank you for the fantastic drill.
    I have a question regarding fast vs slow tempo.
    Would a faster tempo be better for generating a more active backswing?
    Or is the slower tempo better as it allows for bigger shoulder turn and potentially more speed as it unwinds?
    Which tempo should I adopt when swinging an actual club?

    • @drkwongolf
      @drkwongolf  Před 2 lety +1

      The BS motion should be fast enough but with mature BS/transition. As long as you don't rush, make the motion as fast as possible.

      @michaelbennett6963 Před 2 lety

      Thank you Dr. Kwon! Waiting for the mature transition makes a lot of sense. In other words I can go as fast as my lower body will let me without having having arms/hands take over too much?

      The rope? From rightrope.com. Search for 'Kwon' on the website.

    Dr. Kwon, Love your videos! I recently purchased the rope and 10lb kettlebell to do your drills. Is there a program I can print out that guides me step by step through reprogramming? Is it 1) rope drill 2) kettlebell drill 3) step drill...then what?

    • @drkwongolf
      @drkwongolf  Před 2 lety

      No. I use them in different orders depending on the needs of the golfer and also my mood on that day. ^_^ In general, kettlebell -> rope -> step drills sequence should be reasonable. Or the kettlebell & rope drills can be used between the step drills as well.

      I’m looking to purchase a rope and am having a hard time finding something that looks like it might work. Any suggestions?

    I can get the rope going pretty well waiting for it to come around and mature but when I try this with a actual club I end up will a huge hook. How do I stop the shoulders from opening too much it too soon with real club?

    • @drkwongolf
      @drkwongolf  Před 2 lety +2

      When you have severe hooks, pay attention to separation of the lower body shift and upper body turn. They usually occur when the whole body turn as one unit.

    I made a rope just like this. I feel that I have a good rhythm and use my lower body. The problem is it actually huts my body sometimes when the rope hits me. any1 else have this problem. I can hear the rope hitting him and have to wonder if it hurts him also. I guess I am trying to figure out if it is just part of the process or I am doing something quite wrong. I know I am not stopping early so that it slaps my body

    • @drkwongolf
      @drkwongolf  Před 2 lety

      Make the motion as smooth as possible. Flexing the arms slightly toward the end eases this issue.

    Hi Dr Kwon, I am new to this. Do you have a recommended regimen for the rope swing drill?
    How many minutes per session/ day? Starting duration vs Target duration ?

    • @drkwongolf

      I don't have any specifics as you can quickly learn the rope swing.

      I am doing 100 reps a day. It really helps with the tempo.
