Being a more "experienced" SimAirport player (i.e I have big airport) this is still super entertaining because of the challenge you put yourself in.
A tip I'd give is to remove queues from everything but security. The pathfinding algorithm for the game works quicker if you dont have them. Another major one is to move the supply delivery area to its own little bit of road where trucks can line up without interrupting traffic. Same for garbage and same for fuel delivery.
(my big airport is a 166 flight, 35k pax departures per day airport).
I caught a connecting flight from Frankfurt to Bologna, Italy and was amazed that we had to take a 10 minute bus ride out to the plane and walk up stairs from the tarmac.

I feel like the airport authority set you up for failure when they said you couldn't expand the footprint of the terminal building. Bureaucracy works in mysterious ways I guess.

To build on your point of walking past the plane in European airports, my home town airport (edinburgh: 14 million passengers a year) you still walk down stairs and on the concrete sometimes for 500m to get to your gate.

There's still plenty of medium size airports in the US that have small planes that have stairs instead of the ramp machine thing. I flew from Dulles airport to Charlottesville, VA and I got on and off the plane by going out onto the tarmac, also had a flight to atlanta that came in after the terminal was closed so they used stairs. So while rare it definitely is still a thing
Endorsing multiple paths to aerospace. Here at the U. North Dakota, our biggest major is commercial aviation (i.e., being a pilot), but there's so much else people find great aviation and aero careers (and majors) in--airport management, ATC, aviation business, researching this that or the other, etc. Heck, I'm an aerospace librarian. Lots of options get get into the aerospace airspace...

The issues you're having with the gate placement are part of why I prefer Airport CEO (and I know it's been mentioned to you before, but bear with me). The grid system in ACEO is, with few exceptions, a WYSIWYG system. There are no 'hidden' blocks that anything snaps onto, like the gates in SimAirport, so if you want a gate to fit in 'just so', so it fits just. That system also means that you don't have to necessarily plan out the gates before you plan the terminal; one can attempt a sprawling megahub before they've laid down a gate, provided they have the funds.

@@NoDakExpress I don't think it has the same ATC ambiance as SimAirport (or, at least, I haven't heard it), but it's definitely a fun game! I'm currently trying to see how many gates I can service off of two runways: my math says 20 to 40 depending on the arrival and departure interval, but I guess I'll see what happens when I get there!

Next expansion could be that you got a huge government bonus of $20m and are supposed to upgrade the logistics of the terminal and include a new runway and XL docks (Sorry, I know thats not the term, but the thing where the planes pick up and drop off people).

The smallest international airport I can think of in the US that makes you walk on stairs is the KOA airport in Kona Hawaii.
Thanks for remedying this discrepancy in my mind - I visited Hawaii with my parents, but being 4 at the time I couldn't remember much. There's a picture on my wall of me in my mom's arms standing in front of the plane we were about to board, clearly on the tarmac, yet this was a year or two after the terror attacks. For years this has troubled me, there's no way I could have been stood out there after new mandates and laws.
Here in Norway you will almost never walk into the plane via those tubes, the staff show you out the door to the plane. There’s minimal security and you could easily walk to the runway without anyone stopping you in time

In smaller countries they have a rope surrounding the wings of the plane so no one goes too close to the engines as they’re usually running
