@@PraiseGod.FearMe the difference with the ECF run was that was the last year ATL fielded a solid defense. They locked Ben Simmons up and he hasn't been the same since.
Trae is better on offense and defense than he was that year but they haven't surrounded him with quality defenders. Every team in the playoffs right now has a bunch of good defenders around their star player.

Put a defensive team around Trae that can shoot(how the Knicks have for Brunson) and I guarantee the hawks get a top 5 seed and make a deep playoffs run. Why would the Hawks do anything with the Spurs? Trae and Dejounte still love hooping together and just had some injuries this season as well as a decline in production from guys like Hunter and Capela. Trade those two, draft Sarr or Clingan, and try to trade for BI. The East is clearly weak now so why not try to capitalize and win if you have one of the best young PGs in the NBA who loves the A as well as an already solid core. Resetting as a franchise is not gonna help especially if we don’t have all of our picks.

@flyingmonkeys97 Why? Hawks aren't close to being a contender they need to rebuild if they can. Having the 1st and 4th and 8th pick wouldn't be bad. They'd end up with a ton of cap space the next year if they can get expiring deals or short contracts.

If the Hawks want to rebuild, the only way for them to do it is to trade Trae Young to the Spurs. They would get all of their picks back, tack on 3 more firsts, then salary match with Keldon Johnson & Zach Collins. Would be Johnson, Collins, 6 firsts, & a pick swap for Trae. This would allow the Hawks to tank and get the benefit of tanking with all their picks back +3 extra firsts. Hawks would keep #1 pick this draft. I can't see them trading Trae Young in any other scenario. If they did blow it up, they would also trade Murray for more picks as well.
If the Hawks want to compete now, they will likely trade the #1 pick & Murray for a legit star. Murray & Trae won't work in the same backcourt. I would think the Pelicans would be interested in Murray & Sarr(#1) for Ingram. CJ McCollum did not impress me in this year's post season & then Pels could move on from Jonas V. Pels get their star PG and rookie C. Ingram is expiring contract and plays similar role as Zion. The Hawks have Ingram, Trae, Capela, Bogdan, & Hunter.
What's crazy about this... if the Hawks did decide to blow it up and send Trae to the Spurs, the Spurs would still have 4 & 8 in this year's draft. They would still have 27 million in salary cap to sign a free agent. They would also still have about 9 tradable first round draft picks to bring in yet another player or keep adding depth with rookies every year. Imagine the Spurs are able to draft both of the elite shooters in this year's draft at 4 & 8 (Reed Sheppard & Dalton Knect) which both project to be available. Even if they are mediocre, there will always be role player spots for 40-50% 3p shooters to space the floor. Trae & Wemby as your stars. You sign a 27 million free agent, Tobias Harris is someone that could match that description.
Spurs starting roster would be Wemby, Harris, Vassell, Sheppard, & Trae. Spurs future looks bright.
