- Stripping floors with a dry stripping system. Using a square scrub machine with a 3m pad. I will never chemical strip a floor against. This is a much safer way of stripping floors. Saves time labor cost. Plus saves and supply cost. This is a much fast method to learn on the training employees. Plus the results of how amazingly awesome floors look after wax is applied. www.squarescrub.com/pivot-flo... www.jondon.com/3m-surface-pre... www.spartanchemical.com/produ.... I have been a custodian for over 20 years. The purpose of this channel is to share some of my knowledge with you. I remember the feeling when I first became a custodian. I was given a set of keys, a radio and a badge. Didn't get any training whatsoever. Being a custodian is not rocket scientist knowledge. There are definitely things that a custodian needs to know. I call it the art of the trade. Tips and tricks that can make the job much easier and enjoyable. Find me at @mrjeffthecustodian

I'm switching over to this method at my school district. I've been looking for videos to show people what I'm talking about, and this is the one.
Man I sure wish my school would invest in a square scrub. Would save time & money in the long run; plus have time to take care of other summer duties.
Thanks for explaining fbe pad
ALWAYS trust a guy with a gigantic key ring. 😂.
I've been researching this machine and I'm going to rent one for the medical building i clean. Thanks for the info on overlapping and water. I've got a few places behind desks from chairs, i hope it helps those spots as well as it does the simpler les traffic area's.
Something important to know is that these machines aren’t completely stripping the floor. It will get you down through multiple coats, but it won’t strip away all of the finish. They are great time savers and any facility that has VCT needs to have one
Yes
I think these machines are really great and even if you’re just scrubbing with the same pad but round one it’s just as good. The only thing though is, I prefer to have a little bit of water to keep the dust down especially if you just clean the room you could risk getting dust everywhere You don’t wanna breathe that in either
I sell stripper and chemicals but i tell everyone if you've got your arms around your floors (meaning you don't have 30 coats of finish on the floor) this is exactly how i would want to scrub and recoat my floors every year. Just showed this method today at a school district and refinished with ishine from Spartan. Then i took them into their bathroom with clean by peroxy and a turf pad on this unit. Oh boy did we have a nice slurry going lol. Great work keep it up!
I used Proxy last week with Doodle Scrub in bathroom. I made a video using it. Love square scrub. I am very familiar with Spartan wax as well. Thanks for your input means a lot a lot coming from a rep!
My first year (2019) as head custodian I used the square scrub to remove wax from the floor. It had been years since I did it. I actually forgot to put water down. Yea just a little dusty. They put lvt flooring down in our new school. So no more waxing
Now if only I can convince my Supervisor to purchase this machine in Toronto Canada school board I’d be a happy custodian 😊
That would be Awesome!
Decided to go this route this summer since our stripping chemicals were on back order. Got a backpack vacuum attached to help with some of that dust
I wish my school had that dust mop
I am using a red pad a backer pad then the SSP pad. If I switch to a white pad will there be any difference in taking off the wax ? Also I will flip the SPP pad after I do the room, then us the new side and do the room again. Most of the time I will us a small floor machine after the edges are done. One pass with the water on two the flipping the pad and no water on. Also I will use a squeegee on the edges to bring the water out. Then use the floor machine to pick up the water.
Red pad want make a difference in how much wax it takes off. I have used read pad for a backer.
I saw this method being used on an uneven floor and where there were divots, nothing could be done with what the user had which is why I am skeptical of this process, but still like it for the right application.
Yes if floor is uneven it will cause issues.
Very good training with the overlapping technique. What brand is this square machine & cost?
That’s a square scrub pivot. We have a 14x20 and a 14x28. I think the 14x20 is around 4000.00 and 14x28 around 6000.00.
Hi, do you think a rotary floor maintainer would work for dry striping? Thanks for the video.

where I work we don't use "wax" sealer. Would this machine be okay to use?
We don't ever have enough time to clean buff the floors. We just shine with a white pad.
This is for taking 2 to 3 coats of wax off. Then reapplying 2 to 3 coats.
Some of those orbital machines can have a backpack vacuum attached to them to collect the dust as it’s created
Yes this one has the set up for it. We just choose not to.
If no vacuum/ wear a respirator
How many times did you have to flip or change out that pad?
once flip
I wish we could get one of those machines
Awesome
@@mrjeffthecustodian lol I wish I could send you a picture of some of our floors.. they are really really really bad and for some reason we only top scrub.
@kylesalmon31 u only see those auto scrub machine in the supermarkets
What if when you do this on waxed floors you dont get any wax up?
If you get a white powder you are getting wax up. This system removes 2 to 3 coats. I have never had it fail with a 3m marron pad. you are leaving your base coats on the floor.
What kind is the white pad? I have a square machine using a black pads but it won’t last attached to the velcro.
The white pad is to protect the Velcro teeth on pad driver.
@@mrjeffthecustodian thank you Sr.
So is a regular white pad?
Yes
Do you have to use the chemical stripper, if you use the the sander?
No
Would u get the same results if u were to flood the floor with water? And how long does the pad last?
There’s no reason to flood the floor with square scrub. You can do ten thousand square feet with on pad. 5000 square feet per side of pad.
@@mrjeffthecustodian I have a "I have 40 years floor experience" type boss and he insisted u had to flood the floor as if u were stripping it. Glad I found your video to prove him wrong. Love your videos keep em coming💪💪
Mr. Jeff, you prefer this method? The traditional black and stripper method, or the maroon with water and low speed method?
This Method.
This method has been a godsend to our custodians. I promise, we still use light mopping but use autoscrubber and clean mop afterwards great results. Thanks Jeff.
Is it summer break yet at your college.
Yes been out for a month.
What are you doing for heavy build up?
If it’s heavy build up. You have to do a wet strip.
Have you ever had to clean a floor with neutral floor cleaner?
Many times
@@mrjeffthecustodianjust be glad you’ve never had to use a propane powered stripping machine or burnisher. Those things are very loud at 115 DB I believe
The bookshelf is loaded? It had about 12 books and a couple papers 😂
Just because you CAN run it "one handed" does not mean you should.
Yelp that time of year stripping and waxing 😊
We have one and I hate it. Dust everywhere and no way I can use one hand. Two rooms and I'm beat to death. I'm doing everything it says to do but it's not something I like but our school system no longer wants to use stripper so I guess I'll need to get used to it lol 😂
I feel the same way. I hate using it!
You tried using some water?
@Mr Jeff Custodian well, I did mop the floor with light water before hand but that turned into a huge mess because it turned I to like a clay substance lol. I had to mop the floor 12 times to get the residue off...
Auto scrubber will take it up fast and easy.
@Mr Jeff Custodian Trying to convince the county to get me one lol. I played heck Trying to get a new lawn mower and I finally got it after 3 years lol..
Hi Jeff how are you doing
If only people in change would help chemical strip. They would see how hard it is. They would be begging for a machine like this.
Going good
@@mrjeffthecustodian I agree ! They should spend time doing the job to see what equipment and chemicals are actually needed
Lmao.. you use stripper and leave it an hour you burn the tile.. lol great tip.. with the stripper and round head machine it's a 2 or 3 man job that gets awful messy.. those square machines are great
I actually left one
Room overnight with the square. Yes we got into some messy times wet stripping. Oh the stories I could tell.
@@mrjeffthecustodian does it give better results than wet stripping with a scrubber?
@dwightlancaster2119 what my experience is that if the floor has been properly wet striped. You are taking 2 to 3 coats of wax of with square scrub then put 3 coats back on. The base coats are still on the floor. Just take the damaged coats off. Which I have found works amazingly well. The city system I worked at for 19 years. The last 10 years I was there. Square scrub was all we ever did every summer. We got amazing results every summer. Definitely made it easier on use. Where I work now I introduced the square scrub to them. We now have 2 square scrub machines. So I’m sold 💯 on these machines.
Tell people how much maroon pods cost😂
they ain't cheap for a box of ten, about $130 for a box of ten, but u can go off brand for about $50 or $60 bucks.
lazy man way
