    I'd spend a little bit more money on a box fan that had forward/reverse controls.

    Bro. Fkn THANK YOU. I’ve been looking for a solution for a week. This doesn’t require cutting holes in the bus, losing roof access, moves more air than other fans, and is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Easiest bus DIY I have ever seen. Kudos.

    Great advice, I th8nk if you modify the fan you could probably get it to close and seal, and you could route the knob off the fan and into the side wall or roof to access and control faster. Just some upgrade ideas, but over all I love your out of the box, low cost, and innovative ideas😊 keep the good work up!

    Great discovery.
    I would just add security nuts or double nuts to the screws holding the angled brackets, so that they do not vibrate off.
    Thank you!

    @TexasJack1886 Před 3 lety +1

    I don't know the science behind it so take it with a grain of salt, but everytime I've had a box fan tip over forwards or backwards and stay on, they always stop working after running on their side. Dont know if the motor just wasn't meant to spin that way or of the lack of airflow when on the floor causes it to overheat. Just thought it was worth mentioning.

    You could get a junk yard car radiator fan, they are 12 volts.
    Harbor freight sells a cylinder fan, like a bilge fan but bigger, same wattage consumption as a bilge fan but moves a lot more air, 1300cfm.

    think it be a good idea to make the raised lip higher in the front of the hatch about slightly passed the edge of the hatch itself , that way you cn leave the fan is and the hatch half opened while driving the bus , rain whont get in as eazily while driving either
    should be reasonably eazy to make from some aluminium plate rivited to the existing raised edge

  • @BankruptGreek
    @BankruptGreek Před 3 lety

    the thing is, rain always falls at an angle, you need a way bigger lip to keep rain, it might be possible to add something like it to the hatch but in reality this set up will never work as good as a factory made rain proof vent.

    Genius guys! Why I never thought of this idk! However I do have hesitations on how this would work in the rain. But I suppose you can close the hatch n bring it inside.

    • @TheVoyagerProject
      @TheVoyagerProject  Před 7 lety +2

      Thank you! and we were concerned about it too. The hatch does have a lip on it to be used open in the rain and we just had our first rain storm a couple days ago and it did a good job blocking the rain, a little still got in if you were blowing air into the bus, but if you were blowing the fan up and out it actually pushes the rain away from the hatch and none gets in which is super cool!

    blowing down is a bad idea because of axial thrust. it is designed to take thrust into the motor but not away from. it will shorten the life of the fan .

    Nice video on the fan, I've seen several videos love the beds. I might have to try the fan. My vent is right in the middle of the van so that will work perfect. I have pleanty of room for an actual bed, but the murphy bed is a great idea. Can u make it so it is higher up off the floor?

  • @ConnorLipke

    Could this be done with a smaller fan on a van, like if I cut my own hole in the roof?

    • @TheVoyagerProject
      @TheVoyagerProject  Před 7 lety

      I don't see why not, but unlike our bus, your van won't have its own vent hood, so it won't be water proof unless you make one. They can be bought at places like Menards also to be used for attic vent fan hoods

  • @dizheller2101

    • @merlinbasics9345
      @merlinbasics9345 Před 3 lety

      This motor works with AC (120V), not DC (like a 12V battery), so it is more complicated to change the rotation. Plus those blades are designed to work very efficiently in one way, and not at all in the other.

  • @monakhneisser2941
    @monakhneisser2941 Před 4 lety

    Would it pull out more power than a 12V fantastic fan? I am worried it may drain a regular van battery.

    • @TheVoyagerProject
      @TheVoyagerProject  Před 4 lety

      If you can find a similar box fan that runs on 12v, that would be the ideal option. That way it can be powered directly from the battery and the inverter doesn't have to be running. We just went with the 120v because it was what we had available at the time.
