- A DC Coupler or Dummy Battery enables you to operate a camera on mains power. We look at two DC Couplers: a Panasonic DC Coupler for GH4 and GH5 cameras, and a Gonine DC Coupler for Lumix GX8 FZ1000 FZ300 FZ200 G7 G6 G5 G80 G81 G85 GH2 Cameras.

You just taught me about the hole in the battery door. That alone makes this video worth watching
🤣 Took me a while to figure out why they put that there too.
same
even the sz100 has it. The coupler has a USB-like connector.
@@rodolfonetto118 but Blackmagic Cinema Pocket 4K lacks it
This is why I came here too! Thank you so much for the help! - Zion
Rite Dude, I purchased a DMW-DCC12 coupler by mistake for a G7 (only a few £ on ebay) so decided to take it apart. Inside and found the wire that goes to it a tiny circuit board with two 102 resistors and that was it! My point being like you have mentioned with the aftermarket product the price is just crazy... TFS, GB :)
there are type-C variants now, work well with power banks
Dude I literally just purchased an extra battery door before I watched your video in order to drill in it!
Lol don’t do it!
I own a GH5S camera. Panasonic is pretty bad in making things clear I think. The original battery delivers, 7.2V while the AC adapter 8.4V. Then they have different Article numbers: BLF19, BLF19E.....which are the differences?
The original battery only lists the nonimal voltage of lithium-cells, which is twice 3,6 Volts as there are 2 in series in a pack. But the voltage can go up to about 8,2 or 8,4 Volt when fully charged and down to (something) like 6,4-6,6 Volts when fully drained. So no, Panasonic is very clear on things, it's just something you should not even think about when you just buy the accosires stated by the manual. There is no difference between the stated battery-types.
Thanks. Had no idea of the battery trap door! I was searching for an answer? 👍
Can you find me a non-OEM dummy battery for a Panasonic VDR-D300 ?
Been looking at options for extending the power duration of my gh5 and found this extremely helpful. I do a fair amount of night timelapse stuff in the outdoors so plugging it into a wall socket isn't feasible. Can you suggest a decent portable solution?
what I am trying to do is power my gh5m2 with out plugging I into the wall
My battery compartment is stuck in the camera. How can I remove it?
Hello, Lumix DC-S5II with
DC Dummy Battery Coupler for Lumix DC-S5/S5K Cameras Compatible with DMW DCC17
can be operated with 12V input?
What program are you using to switch cameras ? What’s your set up? That’s cool
What do you have to get in order to make it work with D-tap V-mount batteries? (sorry, I know this video is 2 years old now..)
If you cut off the power while the camera is on but not writing to card, is it safe? So that a switch can be used to turn the cam on/off. Thanks
Your information is not complete. There is an adaper to tun the dummy battery with a 5v powerbank .
The adaper transforms the 5 volt to 8 volts i guess. I wonder if the input for the dummyis 8 volt or 12 volt.
can you take pictures with mechanical shutter? Thank you! great review
Brilliant! Thank you.
SUPER!!!!
can use with gx9 bro ?
Anybody found a dummy battery for the G100/G110? I've really been having trouble finding one for the DMW-BLG10E battery :(
If I'm not mistaken, the G100's battery is similar to the Lumix GX85. So you'll need the DMW-DCC11.
Please note the dummy battery will not work one the G9!!
Great video, just wondering if the 1st-party coupler for GH5 also works with 3rd-party power supplies or if you get one you have to get the other? Thanks!
Me: Watched multiple videos where there is a groove in the battery door to slide the cable
Also me: My camera has no groove of any kind, no seam, all unbroken hard plastic.
Still me: About to get mad while not really listening to you anymore, but carefully inspecting my camera.
You: “Every camera has a groove of some sort…”
Me: NO! NOT MINE!!
You: “Or the camera will just have a hole in the bottom of it.”
Me: Nope! No hole in the bottom either pal! Just a big flat black circle… it’s kids like rubber… It’s hole SHAPED… awww FUDGE…. IT OPENS UP LIKE A FLAP! THATS HOW MINE WORKS!!
Me for the last time: THANKS!!!!!!
How about getting one of the cheap coupler and smashing it so we can see the inside? Tnx for the video!!!!
I have a DMW-DCC12 bought in error (genuine item but cheep on ebay) so took it apart and to answer your question Sweet FA! Okay a tiny circuit board with two 102 surface mount resistors on it! So why so expensive!!!
Does the DMW-DCC12 DC Coupler and DMW-AC10 AC Adapter work for the G9 as well or do I need the Gonine DMW-DCC8 ?
Did you ever find out ? I'm curious too. thanks
@@BSMechanics we went with the g7 and gh5 after all but I think the adapter works with both if I recall correctly
Do you know how long the camera will allow you to record at 1 time?
until the SD cards are full
Hi, do you know if this works on the g95 or g90?
it does go with G95 (same battery model DMW BLC12)
Is this safe for the camera??
Is it possible with Lumix g100 ? Somebody who know that ? 🙏🏼
Look for a dummy battery that fits it. I think G100 has the same battery as the GX85.
These dummy batteries are very expensive. Is there any cheaper alternatives?
Yes. Go for the cheaper knock-offs or make them yourself.
Thanks for your productive comment buddy.
@@FatTyrant Sorry, can't make it any better ;) I'm now building a dummy-insert ouf of a piece of wood I found at work and is almost exactly the shape of the BLF19 battery. Building the dummy yourself is as old as the need for longer runtimes of devices and was something my dad already did to S-VHS camcorders in the eighties. Piece of wood with two contact in the right place and a 4-pole XLR connector at the bottom to plug in wall-power or a big lead-acid battery. Ofcourse, technology has advanced and not every device just accepts such a DIY-solution, but for the Panasonic GH4 and GH5, there is enough info on the web to find out how to make your custom dummy-battery powersupply work.
You could have just said "there are alternatives" and inform me about safer ones or recommend using the more expensive reputable ones for the safety of my gh5, but yeah you do you with your block of wood story
@@FatTyrant The dummy-batteries themselves are amongst the most 'stupid' (I do not mean that in the design but in their lack of intelligence inside) pieces of plastic you can find, so they can only make a difference in physical tolerances applied during production. If those tolerances are off too much, you run the risk of contact-problems. Don't worry about your camera on that point, it will survive.
The power supply itself is the main thing. Just buy a reputable-brand supply (Meanwell, Delta Electronics) and do NOT go for some Ali-express power-supply.
It needs to be able to supply enough current (2 Amp at minimum) at about 8,4 to 9 Volts. Any lower and the camera will think it's a battery and try to asses it's state-of-charge, which it seems to do by a 10 k resistor between the T- and ground connection on a battery.
My comment may be a bit harsh and I do think the dummy-battery is rather overpriced for such a simple piece of plastic with a small lead attached to it, but if you worry so much about the safety of your camera, I think you are asking the wrong questions.
