This maybe the most epic Super Sonic battle in the franchise’s history. Not just because of the epic music or the battle itself, but because what Sonic was up against. As someone pointed out in a comment below, Sonic actually passed out after defeating Dark Gaia and stated it was because of Dark Gaia ripping out the energy from Sonic by force. Actually, I don’t think that’s the cause (nor is it because of Sonic not resting to put the planet back together.) The main cause can be seen during the fight. Super Sonic is shown to pretty much be invincible to anything in the past. However, here, when Sonic is hit by one of Dark Gaia’s attacks, Sonic isn’t knocked back like in previous battles. Super Sonic actually TAKES damage! To people who don’t understand why this is a big deal, of any final boss that has been fought before, there’s only one other that has accomplished this feat: Solaris; a time god who’s power required 3 super transformed hedgehogs to defeat. That’s how powerful Perfect Dark Gaia is. Since Solaris was erased from Sonic’s timeline altogether, this makes Dark Gaia the strongest enemy Sonic has ever fought. Sonic knew Dark Gaia wasn’t like facing Eggman. He was facing the embodiment of the Earth’s darkness, a literal force of nature that was driven by the planet’s will to destroy itself. He had to take this even more seriously then anything before. If him or Chip lost, the world would end.
Punching demons is cool. Colossal temple golems punching a demon five times its own size is even better. They sure don't make final bosses like they used to. Granted, it's a bit ridiculous, but final bosses are meant to get you excited.
Candy's good I played the Wii version before I played this. And yes, it was difficult. It took me so long to get used to the controls, and I swear the boost movement didn't work properly. That and I was just a bit crap at the game.
Being ridiculously over-the-top has always been part of the series' charm. It still boggles me whenever someone says that Sonic shouldn't have stories because ''he's a blue cartoon hedgehog''. Ignoring the fact that cartoons are perfectly allowed to have stories, isn't finales like this cartoon-y enough for those guys? There's a literal stone version of the Power Rangers' mech punching a giant monster for crying out loud.
Looking back on this game after so long, I realize how bittersweet this fight was from the perspective of the story. Just thinking about the weight of saving the world with a good friend, knowing that your actions will result in the loss of that friend... If I still felt things like I did as a youngin this would've torn me up for weeks, lol
Hey I just realized something. The way Super Sonic moves around the shield to hit the weak spots represents how Sonic has been traveling around planet Earth throughout the game! Anyone else think this was the idea?
Every color known to man kind News flash : it didn't. It's a pretentious piece of shit which humor revolves only around factoids about the fanbase and series, or outdated as fuck in-jokes. No wonder it's such a failure.
Its a shame this game got the reputation it did back in the day. It did everything right, fantastic story, amazing level design, phenomenal final boss fight, and a great soundtrack. People seemed to not like the werehog but I think the werehog does a good job add changing up the pace. This was one of the few sonic games to feature a super sonic boss fight and it contained one of the best super sonic fights to date. This game was supposed to be a love letter and apology from Sonic team and Sega to the fans to try and fix what happened with Sonic ‘06, and it shows. This was also the last sonic game to have a full development time. Its sad that games like this are left in the pile of shitty games that will eventually be forgotten
here is my story my best friend had a ps3. he loved sonic games. he had unleahsed. one day he asked me could i come over to help him. -ok when we beated dark gaia, we came to perfect. the custence... i was like 8... it scared the living shit out of me. i went out of he room xd when i saw 60× □... i tried it a few times, but we failed. after a month or two my aunt bought me this game. after months i beated dark gaia and he custence still disgusted me. i collected some life and after 14 tries i did it. i screamed and started to dance like an idiot. now im 12 and still watching this custence
Sonic The Hedgehog at least it had amazing music but do you know what also has amazing music? Sonic 06 Oh and Sonic Unleashed (don't lie solaris phase 2 music was amazing Then again can't we all respect everyones opinion? Some people like omochao and some people like sonic boom (rise of lyric) Hell i loved Sonic Boom Shattered Crystals gameplay it was fun...but that's my opinion and i respect yours.
EpicOne52 is Epic I love Sonic 06 and Unleashed. If you like Sonic Boom, that's fine too. And yes, Solaris Phase 2 was amazing. I'm just giving my opinion and I respect yours too
Well in the doomsday zone in sonic 3&knuckles you could dash into rocks and break them in space, it caused knock back, but you don't lose rings it health it just slows you down. The choice to add a health bar is odd in this version of the game, but I guess the Gaia colossus health bar sort of replaces the decreasing rings over time
When I first saw Dark Gaia's true form, I was shook and said, "How are Sonic and Chip going to beat Dark Gaia now?!" I even had goosebumps all over my body and shivers down my spine. But when the Chaos Emerald's started moving from the temples right to Sonic and he transformed into Super Sonic. I was like, "Oh hell yeah!!!" This is the first Sonic game where I got to play as Super Sonic for the first time in my life
I played Sonic Unleashed on the wii and it will always have a place in my heart, but damn, this is an amazing boss fight too. I love both versions of this game. Thanks, SEGA
This is the REAL sonic and who Sonic really is Fighting a monster in the core of the earth to save it from destruction Come on what more could you ask for
Ah yes, back when Sonic final bosses were on par with Kirby final bosses in terms of epicness. This was literally the last truly epic final boss, nega wisp armor is a great final boss and the time eater in the 3DS version of generations is also pretty good, but they lack the build up and the epic feel that this boss had. and don't even get me started on lost World's final boss or force's final boss as they completely miss the mark on every front. I want final bosses like these, not whatever the hell those new bosses are.
I'd say that Merlina was the final epic fight. That one had a lot of weight to it too, and the scene before the fight was incredible. Despite only being in one game, her betrayal still hurt.
Probably because this boss phase was meant to be done as fast as possible . Chip will die within a minute if you don't take out the snake shield things fast enough
I prefer him with a time limit. It really makes the fight better plus the sense of urgency isn't there if Sonic can keep up his super form indefinitely. Gotta save the world and you don't have forever!
4:35 if this game ever gets remastered it would be really neat if it switched to the Wii’s version of the final boss at this point to add a bit of length to the fight and make the finale more involved (for context the Wii finale boss had sonic directly fight dark Gaia by homing attacking and boosting into his eyes). It could just be 3 hits instead of 9 to stop it from making the fight too long but it would be cool to see.
The last good final boss fight was Colors, after that it was just knockoff versions of its boss fight (Lost World and Forces), or just plain horrible. (Generations.)
Here in 2023 and I'm so glad that Sonic Frontiers brought back super sonic boss fights with this level of epicness after so many years, even if the true final boss was a let down.
Mike Anthony I died a lot on the boss, but I never seemed to get any Game Overs. At the beginning, I always made sure that I grabbed enough rings to give me an extra life before advancing towards Dark Gaia.
This is by far my favorite sonic game. I played it after playing colors awhile back. It has some awesome music, I really enjoyed both styles of gameplay once I kept playing, the story was actually pretty good. This boss fight was just my favorite part of the game. As soon as the music kicked in I just thought to myself "Lets finish this" and it made me sad to see that it was basically over. But I was satisfied to see the credits playing endless possibilities.
The only thing I hate about Unleashed was that you have to fight this boss twice, because the first time it was defeated the game just plays the last few cutscenes without giving you the rank for Dark Gaia boss causing you to fight the entire boss again. This was frusating the first time I fought agaisnt this boss.
It's 2019, I still haven't played this precious game and I love the game so much and everything about this is just A M A Z I N G, even if a lot of people say this game sucks, I just love it!
The animation in the cutscenes like the one here of Dark Gaia becoming Perfect Dark Gaia are so stunning! It really looks like at the Pixar animation level.👍
13 years ago i was in awe and shock how a sonic final boss looked against my meager wii port now, i feel like i can write this off my bucket list thanks for uploading this
trole maybe we cant buy a new console just to play ONE game or to buy a powerful enough PC to emulate those flawlessly and smoothly with improved grafx
I was always confused as to why super sonic had a health bar then while thinking on it realized just how powerful dark gaia is and how worn down and weaken sonic was and it made sense, especially since it replaced his ring counter.
God I miss sonic unleashed, I never cared about what people said about this game in the past. This was honestly such a good sonic game and I even loved the werehog stages.

@@agentblur9637 oh no... I did it and yeah you know it's difficult but if you learn all the level you can complete the level on S rank and don fachio's of eggmanland, like me :b
If you think about it dark Gaia is canonly the third most powerful foe that sonic has ever faced. The dude was able to stop super sonic away and light Gaia(chip) had no chance alot. Now I believe eggman is his secondmost powerful as not only on this game stopped super sonic and won, but also in generations basically broke time itself His strongest foe yet I say has to be Solaris as he was not able to die until the timeline was rebooted, he was able tondestroybthe universe itself and not die until the universe events was removed.
Sonic: "All right, Chip! Time for the big finish!" Chip: "Sonic." Me: "Chip, not only did you not answer him correctly, that doesn't even make any *damn* sense."
I like when mostly modern sonic games have some unfitting or uncanny valley things like Dark Gaia, Perfect Chaos, Ultimate Life Form, Black Arms and Sonic 06 in general.
Even after all these years, listening to that sound effect when Sonic just bashes into something at high speed is so satisfying, like an intended sonic boom effect.
I know it’s been 11 years but congrats on the S Rank. I have a C Rank on that boss because before the Super Sonic phase, I have trouble reaching the third eye in time when running through the temple grounds. The first two eyes were fine, it’s the third eye that feels like it doesn’t give enough time and has more obstacles to avoid.
Even though I have mixed feelings for this game when I fought the final boss with super sonic everything felt epic and extremely satisfying I feel like this is probably the best final boss fight I ever played in any sonic game
I was really young when i played this game 4:15 gave me a hard time and i always would lose my lives at that qte and restart the fight. It took lots of tries and my thumb was getting destroyed everytime but when i finally did it it i felt a rush of euphoria like never before. It was amazing. I still have this game as my favorite Sonic game imo
Honestly, if I was in charge of a definitive edition, after the button mashing (probably lower the amount of presses and the time to compensate), you’d go straight to the Wii version of the boss.
There was so much this game did right. Critics blasted this game for one experimental aspect of it when there was so much about this game that people genuinely enjoyed. The reception to unleashed scared sonic team away from pushing boundaries and taking risks leading to Forces, a bland, basic, forgettable game that plays things as safe as possible instead of getting creative and moving the franchise forward. I hope Sonic team starts getting ambitious again sooner rather than later.
Honestly, we need to gather every person who liked every aspect of Unleashed (especially the Werehog), have them remind Sonic Team about this underrated crown jewel, and maybe they’ll start taking risks again, and this time, instead of the reviews, focus on the number of sales. Unleashed sold 2.5 million copies.

Y'all remember when sonic and the iron gigant defeated literally satan himself?
That was actually funny. Too bad this reicarnated version of the Iron Giant was made of Sediment or Limestone.
Your grammar needs some work but yeah I remember that. Good times.
I always seen erazor djinn as satan tbh

Colossal temple golems punching a demon five times its own size is even better.
They sure don't make final bosses like they used to. Granted, it's a bit ridiculous, but final bosses are meant to get you excited.
Maybe try the Wii version? I thought it was more difficult on the wii, but that's just me
Candy's good Either way the boss is pretty cool, especially the music!
Candy's good I played the Wii version before I played this. And yes, it was difficult.
It took me so long to get used to the controls, and I swear the boost movement didn't work properly.
That and I was just a bit crap at the game.
Black Blizzard I know. This makes it look very easy. I just had a harder time with the Wii version.
I love how Dark Gaia puts up a shield because he's desperate.

Same it’s such a great song
I no. This music is on CZcams. Sonic X. Sonic against Chaos and Shadow The Hedgehog is also in it.
Remeber when boosting into rocks didn't hurt super sonic? I do.
End of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 right? Maybe it's because these are "heated" by the lava? I dunno :/
Well in the doomsday zone in sonic 3&knuckles you could dash into rocks and break them in space, it caused knock back, but you don't lose rings it health it just slows you down. The choice to add a health bar is odd in this version of the game, but I guess the Gaia colossus health bar sort of replaces the decreasing rings over time
Misha In the WII and PS2 version you still have decreasing rings. The entire fight is different too, as a matter of fact.
I know I played the wii version back when the game came out and I played this one recently

"Oh hell yeah!!!" This is the first Sonic game where I got to play as Super Sonic for the first time in my life
When I beat the game I was so satisfied. Hours of medal grinding and random deaths when going fast as hell. All worth it

@@comfy88338 that was also amazing.
@@comfy88338 Black Knight was a spin-off in the Storybook series, so I guess that's why it got left out.
The one time his Super Form didn’t have a time limit.
Probably because this boss phase was meant to be done as fast as possible . Chip will die within a minute if you don't take out the snake shield things fast enough
After that it's just quick time events . May as well be chips health that's the timer here
I prefer him with a time limit.

It wasn't very effective...
Gaia Colossus used Falcon Punch!
Critical Hit!
I love how Super Sonic just briefly stops there for a second before charging into Perfect Dark Gaia's eye so he can pose (depending on his rank).
That only happens on replays. The results screen is cut out if that was your first time beating the boss (basically because of what you just said)
The Epic Fudge I know that from experience. Still, though....
TheBlueComet1 I got a fucking E rank on my second try! So many game overs where spent on this boss!

If you think about it dark Gaia is canonly the third most powerful foe that sonic has ever faced. The dude was able to stop super sonic away and light Gaia(chip) had no chance alot.
Now I believe eggman is his secondmost powerful as not only on this game stopped super sonic and won, but also in generations basically broke time itself
His strongest foe yet I say has to be Solaris as he was not able to die until the timeline was rebooted, he was able tondestroybthe universe itself and not die until the universe events was removed.

this game is a literal MOVIE, not just the cutscenes but even the gameplay looks like a movie
I pretty sure this is the most massive creature super sonic has ever fought.

@@YoshiYoshi456
Yeah me too Eggman sucks as the main antagonist anyway.
