The Manley sounded the most buttery, the Chandler had good warmth and sounded like it would cut through a soulful mix well. The Maag has that air EQ, which you could use with any of the 3 comps, I'd love to hear it with the Manley! So I think you made the right choice. Although if you was stuck for cash, the Manley would fetch a nice return.

The Maag surprised me! Very nice. The ELOP sounds lovely as well.

TG OPTO 🔥💁🏾‍♂️ Cuts like a knife .
    Wish I had that compressor 🤩 🎙️🎶

I agree, TG Opto was my least favorite. I’m definitely shocked at the magnum and I have the plugin and don’t use it 😂😂, but it sounded really good on that vocal.

What's the song. Her voice and those lyrics are fluid. Sounds like a beautiful waterfall of bliss

Really like the elop sounds rich and polished the mogg I liked as well but I feel it sounds just like the plugin the chandler was a little too round sounding for a vocal but I feel would be good on a drum bus or bass guitar curious would you track with eq or do you prefer to do that in post?

Most of the time I prefer to EQ in post. If I eq during tracking its usually just a slight shelf on the low or high end depending on what I'm recording

    I would keep the Manley.

Right off the bat I told myself I’d like the Manley the most of course. Honestly I thought the magg did the job the best. And I thought the highs were already there and didn’t need the air band. But if and when you do neeed it. There’s nothing better.
I agree w letting the chandler go which I thought that I was gonna say let the maag go.
    Cool vid.

    Great demo Czar.
Manley gets my vote for best overall. All 3 had unique attributes. Air band and K on the Maag, Chandler I'm not really sure what it was, but it didn't sound bad. Both in my opinion against Manley were up against a bias. Manley has something to it like an LA-2A, is hard to describe but when you hear it, ah that's it.
I would be bothered without a GR meter. I want to dial it in more accurate than a blinking light.
I love the Manley products, in plug-in format, because UAD and Manley have done a great job of being very close to the hardware. And my bank account will not permit the hardware.
Yes I'm aware these are hardware boxes. Unless the GUI is getting that good I was fooled.

I would keep all three compressors and sell the Arsenal EQ instead 🙂 But I really have to choose I would sell the Chandler and keep the Manley ELOP+ and the Mäag ! But as the Chandler is a 500 series module, do you also throw out your 500 series rack to save 3U in your rack?

    • @TheAudioCzar
      @TheAudioCzar  Před měsícem +1

Even though I don't use it much anymore, I still really like my JDK EQ. I think I'm going to take that 500 series rack out of the desk and as I have a API lunchbox with enough slots open to move the remaining 500 series modules to

I’d sell all of them to be honest. They just don’t suit my style. Sell all three and buy three BLA BLUEY. As many as you can afford imo. It’s PHENOMENAL on vocals, on bass it adds grit and pins it down. Really amazing on snare, really amazing on some guitar parts. I have two and I really need another 2 at least. If I win any money I’d be buying 10

IMO: Chandler >>>> Maag and Manley but of course YMMV (talking sound quality AND build quality)
