  • Here's a look at my 100th anniversary edition Fatboy. You would never know that it's 17 years old by looking at it. The previous owner kept it in immaculate condition.
    Come along and turn some fossil fuel into NOISE!

    To my ears - and it's highly personal, of course - that V-Twin (+ whatever exhaust is installed) sounds as good as an engine can possibly sound. That gorgeous '100th Anniversary' Fat Boy is certainly a keeper (yeah, we'll see).

    Nice bike for sure. The country road with trees making their own tunnels is so beautiful. I keep really bright fogs on at night driving where deer could pop out at any second. I feel better if I have rugged boots and leathers on at night with a brain bucket. I've driven through 125 miles of the Adirondack Mountains at night on a Vespa 300 no less. All kinds of animals out in those woods. I was glad to get my tent set up on the Army base out the other side. Fort Drum. People out there treated this old Marine with respect and it went both ways. They were some nice kids. I'm very proud of them.

  • @SmittySmithsonite
    @SmittySmithsonite Před 4 lety

    Wow! What a time capsule you got yourself there, John! 👍🍻
    I used to have a 100th Anniversary Night Train. The previous owner had done it up with every Harley add-on you could find. It was beautiful! I didn't ride it much, because of the way my barn is - at 5'4" and 150 lbs. then, it was a wrestling match getting her in and out of the door threshold. Has a dirt floor, so there's a steep transition there. I parked it on plywood to make things a little easier, but I found myself riding my '74 Yamaha RD350 2-stroker more often, since it was half the weight of the Night Train, and more politically incorrect with smoke belching out both pipes ... which is alot of fun around MA. 😁 I sold the Night Train 7 years ago with just 8k miles on the clock. Then I saw this Yamaha Roadliner 1900 that someone had decked out to the max down in AL. Was pretty much a Stratoliner after all the work he did. It dynoed 91HP and 114 ft. lbs. of torque on our crappy MA fuel. Boy was that FUN! I figured I'd ride that one more, since the wifey would want to come out on it. That one followed the same pattern as the Night Train. I spent more time cleaning it, changing fluids, and charging the battery than riding it. Sold it after 2 years, since again, I kept hopping on the RD. So today, I still have the RD (fully restored in '09), and my '84 Honda XL350R enduro bike, and that's it. I haven't started the XL in 7 years, but I just can't bring myself to part with it. I've had that machine for 19 years now! Time flies ...
    Anyway, just FYI - if that has low miles, there's something that happens with the timing chain, or rocker arms (or the hydraulic slack adjusters) on those with the 88B engine - I forget the details after 7 years, but look it up, and make sure that's been taken care of already so you don't run into trouble down the road. I wasn't crazy about H/D and their use of "special tools" that cost an arm and a leg on mission-critical components, so I never bought another one.There's a split gear on the camshaft that requires said tool to line up the teeth. I'm sure by now there's cheaper aftermarket alternatives, but that ticked me off back then when I was researching it. It's not a huge deal, and the problem gives plenty of warning ahead of time, so don't let this scare you.
    Anyway - congrats on the purchase, John! That thing is beautiful!! 😎

    Definitely appreciate the Harley Fatboy, it is a fantastic looking bike. I guess I'm just a softy, I rode a Honda Goldwing for many years, had several of them. I love motorcycles, but also love my comfort: cruising on a "couch with wheels", with the queen seat for the missus. But I do like the Harley Davidson sound, unmistakable. I had a guy on a Harley pull up to me at a light, he looked at my Goldwing and said, "How can you tell when it's running?" Had to laugh.

    • @quinnjim
      @quinnjim  Před 4 lety

      The Goldwing is a great bike. I had a Yanaha Royal Star Venture. It was pretty much Yamaha’s version of the Honda. Great to ride “2 up” over large distances. My riding is pretty much local right now, so the Harley will work!

    Well, that was an interesting diversion from the C150, but still a close relationship with big cu inch air cooled cylinders, except only 2 on this particular noise generator. I approve John! :) The video and sound was good. It's a lovely bike to keep, and in such fantastic showroom/hangar condition. (Did I notice the hangar and floor, well the bike matches the interior perfectly!). I'm not a biker, but kinda know all the bikes from years back. Harleys are very popular down here in NZL as well as all the Euro and Japanese bikes. I'd keep the bike at home, else it'll get forgotten (outa site, outa mind) and you've got to drive the car down to the hangar to go ride her! Less chance for a spontaneous ride with your No1 girl down to sample some of No2 girl's (Maddie) brewed cafe coffees! Have the kids had any interest in riding or being a passenger on your bikes? I'd love to have 1 item in each of your categories of planes, bikes and guns, but alas nothing of each except a dust laden CPL, but like you, I've got the stunningly beautiful daughter, and for me, 2 amazing sons!

    • @quinnjim
      @quinnjim  Před 4 lety +1

      The kids aren't too interested in motorcycles. I'd like to keep it that way! With all the distracted drivers on the road today, riding bikes has become a lot more dangerous. I do most of my riding on lightly traveled country roads. Maddie has talked about New Zealand for the honeymoon. We've heard great things!

    My DREAM Bike too Jim... I am a "like New" kind of guy and your FatBoy fits the requirement! If you ever want to part with it...? Quick Story... 1979 had just purchased a 1979 Honda CB650/4-Cyl, a 1979 Ford Thunderbird and wanted a just announced 1979 Harley-Davidson 1200 Sportster Anniversary with Mag Wheels, Special Paint, a Peanut Tank and Drag Bars... went to the local HD Dealership and rode a standard 1200 Sportster... It stalled a bunch of tines, only had 4 forward gears shook/shuttered and vibrated and the Oil Tank Dug into my Left Leg... I couldn't wait to get back to the dealership to say "No-Thanks'"! Sitting at the traffic light making the last turn back to the dealer this "Uber-HOT" Chick in a Cobalt Blue Camaro Z-28 rolled up along side of me winked and said "I LOVE YER Bike" in a little bit of a "Valley-Girl" voice, the light changed and i got back to the HD Dealership and said "I'll TAKE IT"!!! I wrote the order and specified a "Mag-Wheel" , rebate Model, put down a Grand/Cash and the salesman said it will be ready on the following Thursday for pick-up. that Thursday my wife drove me to the dealer and i walked past a bunch of sold HD's not seeing mine! I asked my salesman where mine was and his reply..."You Just Walked past It", I said that one doesn't have the Mag-Wheels... his reply that is the one that we prepped for you "TAKE IT or LEAVE IT", so I left it, got my deposit back and walked out quite disappointed! About 6 months later the owner of that HD Dealer came to my Ford Dealership to purchase parts for his 1957 Antique/Supercharged T-Bird... I told him the story and he asked if he could use my phone? I said sure, he called his store and FIRED That Salesman on the spot over the phone! years Later... i walked into a Honda Dealership and there sat that salesman... he looked at me and said "OH-SHIT" ';-)

      What a story! It's interesting to see how much a salesperson can affect a brand. I rarely have a good experience when dealing with salespeople. They are always trying to "handle" the buyer. Then the final paperwork guy at the dealership always seems to try and sneak a few hundred dollars on to the final invoice (along with trying to sell warranties). That's why I do so much better just buying used stuff from private sellers.

    Very nice, unfortunately our Harley riding days are over......We have 2, 883 Sporty's sitting in the garage that haven't been ridden in at least 4 years. Her's : 2000 white pearl, windshield, bags, about 6,000 miles. Mine 2002: 2002, Black, about 3,000 miles with the same stuff as her's, plus Mags and tach. I should really sell them.

      @quinnjim  Před 4 lety

      Yeah, it's not great to let them sit. They should still be worth something with such low miles.

      I have had 4 Harleys since 1989.But this beautiful Fat Boy that gets ridden maybe once for about 10 miles every 5weeks is staying with me even if I just get to look at it and revel in its beauty .( I am 82 )

      @@quinnjim Good guess, its actually a small adult joke...…. I want you to give yourself a pat on the back the way you have brought your kids up, training Maddie very early, being around all types of aircraft. Im glad she got interested early (dads influence). I know you are proud. Any man that loves planes, motorcycles and guns can't be bad.

      Owning a fat boy and going up 2 years ago in a 1944 Spitfire I can honestly say I experienced both best sounds in the world.

    I have never been a Harley fan! A friend bought one in the 90's. He sold it within a month! Then he bough a Rice Burner! He never looked back!
