That's why I love Macklemore and Ryan Lewis as artists: In one moment they make silly tracks like Thrift Shop and Downtown (which I both love) and in the next moment songs like this one, Growing up, Same Love and others follow. Plain beautiful. I think that's the amazing thing with arts. They record a song and thousands of kilometres away that song changes someones life. Thank you Mr Haggerty. Thank you Mr Lewis.
@qwertzu140 2 years late, but 100% agree. It’s like a painter that can do any type of art while everyone else is specialized. Really truly a special group. I’ll never stop listening to The Heist.
For any sports fan that supports their city, this song brings a tear to their eye. Sure, he's talking about his childhood and supporting the Mariners. But for me the stuff he says brings back memories of my own. And it doesn't even have to be baseball. Songs like these are special. So good on you my man.
Ngl the wonder this song represents is incredible to me and brings me tears. Think about it, everything we've done, all the wonder and incredibleness that matters to each of us. For most of us, we can only just sit still with our eyes wide and full of wonder.
This is the not story of the Mariners winning the world series.....or making the world series....but it is the story of the Mariners getting very close to the world series that one time.
Rockies fan here and I have always enjoyed the Mariners as a baseball fan - this song pretty well sums up how us casuals also got on board with Griff & those sweet 90s Mariners squads. Well done Macklemore, on behalf of a baseball fan❤

And arguably saving baseball in Seattle in the process, but much more of a memorialization of Dave Niehaus, longtime Mariners radio announcer.
