So glad your videos are back! It’s inspiring me to crack on with a Kirby Kite I started last year and 3 other non scale projects got in the way! Time to clear my bench and get cracking again!!!
I tried using 3M tape but it seemed to pucker-up as I tried making the curves. Yesterday I tried again and achieve a good result by stretching it as I made the curve. Is this how you do it? Do you peel the tape whilst the paint is wet or dry?
Chris, How do you achieve precise, clean paint schemes. My attempts with various tapes particularly curves are a disaster? I’d appreciate guidance from a Master of the art!
These days, Nigel, I only paint the fuselage, whereas the flying surfaces are film covered. This is both lighter and a lot cheaper! (Look out for upcoming article on the subject in RCM&E) The best tapes for masking are the 3M Fine lIne tapes in 3mm & 6mm...
A lovely model Mr Williams. Fantastic finish and paint job. It seems very well mannered in the air and at slow speed on landing approaches. May I ask why did you decide on no wash out given the high aspect ratio and taper? Does the dihedral provided by the gull layout make this unnecessary?
I've been using the same HQ wing section for 30 years or so now: one of it's benefits is the excellent low speed behaviour that obviates the need for washout. Without washout, the wing is therefore more efficient...
