That's called being playful and lighthearted. Some people like to push social dynamics. It's not inherently evil, its because they're bored and not in tune with the social dynamics others are. Finally saw the whole video of Ellen and Taylor. This is so degrading not only to Taylor but to women. Very cruel. Taylor was still mature even after being made fun of and tearing in front of live tv.

For a musician who’s celebrity status is so large it can only rivaled by Michael Jackson himself, she strikes me as a surprisingly grounded and down to earth person, who isn’t willing to forgo her dignity for the sake of “playing the game.” I’m a 25 year old man who has never known all that much about her, but in the wake of the publicity she’s received this year I finally have a decent understanding of who she is. I have to say, I completely understand. Her unwavering confidence and commitment to being the strong independent girl boss she is is very admirable, and I can see why she is so inspiring and empowering to young women everywhere. To be completely honest, I haven't listened to or been an actual fan of Taylor's music for a while but I've always been a fan of her as a person. I love her as a human being...which is what so so so many people haven't done and failed entirely to show her basic human decency. She's made fun of for doing what al,ost every other artist does...turn their love and lives in general into art. She was young (not that her youth excused the way she was treated) and looked at, even when she became a grown woman as a child and was treated like she was a baby...an unintelligent baby. It's gross and she deserves to be showered in apologies and respect.

I watched ellen when I was a child and I couldn't understand the guests' uncomfortable expressions and when I could, I trusted her. It sounds silly, but I watched her every day after I was done with school for my whole sixth-grade year. Coming back and rewatching her show really makes me sadder than it should, but here I am, reflecting on my childhood...
Same! I use to watch her show a lot when I was around ten years old and now seeing it all again I see how much she makes her guests uncomfortable. And I have noticed that she objectifies people so much, like she always has to show a shirtless man on her screen or ship celebrities it’s weird. It’s like all she reads are tabloids and bases her interviews off that.

I always thought the whole thing was ironic, like they’d agreed on the sketch beforehand and that it was all done in fun. Ellen was always about awkward comedy and I used to love her for that. It was hard to realise that it wasn’t what I thought - and it was Dakota’s interview that made me realise.

I really agree, when Journalists and Reporters ask hard and direct questions. But what Ellen did here, was far from it. She just dissed and mobbed Taylor for the sake of her own ego. Disgusting. I used to like that woman, but now I regret this.
I'm honestly not a huge Taylor Swift fan yet I wanted to slap Ellen as soon as she kept saying, "yes you did, you dated Zack Efron," and "why are you lying?" And then forced her to play the stupid game. Of course Taylor had to play because then Ellen wouldn't be able to continue with her stupid planned skit. I got really, really mad when Talor was almost crying saying "stop it!" And Ellen was still fucking laughing. Like seriously what's wrong with you? How can you continue to laugh and try to make fun of someone who's telling you they feel extremely uncomfortable about what you're doing and saying?? That's not ok, I don't care who you are.

The most adorable thing for me learning about Taylor was years ago when my 80 year old mother said, I love Taylor and her music! 💕 She is the most beautiful young lady. It was such a sweet way for me to be introduced to the talented Taylor.

This is insane... I'm the Ellen. It's actually pretty mind blowing to me that I realized this, and it explains so much. I loved watching Ellen and during these replays with context of the guest, i realized that i do the same thing to people . Unintentional, harmless and innocent as may have thought of it, it's clearly at face value disrespectful and mean. I'm humbled and really gained some perspective. I noticed that usually when I originally saw this i was focused on Ellen, and the humor i found was mostly due to the joy of watching Ellen just be a jokester and not take anything serious. Laughing at the pain, and parody of some of the things people shouldn't be to wound up about, but one thing i missed was how the receiver was actually reacting. The fact that it was done in front of an audience and cameras created the scene of basically someone feeling the humiliation and bullying in front of people who were laughing, therefore creating a mockery of their own dignity. But with the audience in consent and laughter, as Ellen wants, the person who she jokes about were gaslighted. I'm sure they were left confused and probably without the ability to feel justified in why they felt uncomfortable. Worst of all, they probably beat themselves up for being bullied and she never even realized what she was doing. Looking forward I hope to be more attuned with how and what i joke about with others. Just because i have found comedy to be a relief to my pain, not everyone is coping with my way of coping. Being respectful and mindful of the boundaries others have is a start. I feel for both her and her guests because i can relate to living in oblivion of how much I've hurt people while with the intention of helping them heal and being a good friend. 😔😭

Wow, good on you for self-reflecting. It is so encouraging to see someone admit to areas they can grow. And you will grow because you want to. It’s the same for all of us. We don’t realise how our behaviour might be hurtful to someone else unless we are told or reflect. I think this generation of television was actually quite harmful and we didn’t realise at the time - look at Tyra Banks and her modelling show! I used to watch it and now I see how abusive it was. As spectators and audiences we do have to share the blame on some of these things because we wanted to be entertained but hopefully society has become more aware…

She announced long before any of the accusations came out that she was not renewing her contract when it ended in 2022. She wanted to end the show before 2019.

I’d say it’s partly why the show ended. Although I don’t think it’s a coincidence the hate storm surfaced online just before Ellen’s ending to her show, I do believe there’s more to the story. Like you said Ellen wanted to end theellenshow long before she got blasted with the whole “cancel culture” drama. Regardless Ellen’s behavior isn’t an excuse what so ever. The video of Ellen pressing Taylor to talk ab her dating life…it’s just….really hard to watch cause damn that’s rly messed up. I feel for Taylor, she didn’t deserve that and I don’t want to think about what she was feeling during that interview :/
