With Bennet/GMS and Peace Canyon, the whole Peace River hydro development is like a house with two finished floors and an unfinished basement. We already have the massive reservoir and the flow control in place. You could piddle around with solar and wind, or geothermal [right], and that's like building a little bird house in the back yard. What you really need is to finish the basement of the house, Site C, and get the most from your existing investment.
+lmiddleman Pretty much nailed it sir!
What if the house was built without a permit and the people in the neighbourhood don't want a rich foreigner coming in to raise everyone's property taxes and put up expensive security while destroying everyone's view and ability to sustain themselves from their land?
The only question is how many Xboxes and F150s the neighbours, who knew about the house for nearly three generations, can get out of moving.
I think that the answer is: As little as possible. Xboxes and F150s cost money and while the developer may have friends that can print money by creating debt, the developer still wants to maintain a stronghold on the economy and make sure that the displaced people cannot use their money to gain sovereignty.
Sounds like the rich foreigner doesn't care about the neighbours and wants to use commercial products that will only last a couple decades to bribe the locals into giving up their land forever.
Good question, what do you think the answer is?
You're forgetting about the part where BC Hydro rates double because we didn't need the power and ended up being forced to sell it for decades at a massive loss to the Americans.
WOW you guys are really behind the times . Posted just 7 days ago , but construction on site C began 1 year ago . Just shows how reliable a news source you are!
lol this hope there is more of this
Land grab.
Can`t we just hook up a battery and an alternator to every home?
Bring the FreeTesla energy on. The rest is bullshit
Rebel media is starting to accept science? Even citing a paper. impressive.
It is pretty clear now that this is a biased report. After a few comments from people opposing Site C he then spends time stating that it is a good thing, then has the audacity to say" now we have heard from the opponents...". Then at the end he encourages people to donate to the project! There is no "rebel" about this standard old economic rhetoric.
I agree with you.
Hydro Electric projects are always huge economic booms for country. Large dams basically pay for themselves and can last hundreds of years.
Hoover Dam, Oroville Dam = USA
3 Gorges Dam = China
Kurobe Dam = Japan
+nagasako7 bull total bull and speaking of bull look at bull arm or muskrat falls in NFLD. people there are now being taxed to finish muskrat falls for funding purposes. most of this power is being given away to anotther province. and will these people get their tax back? do rates ever go down? todays laws are in favor of corporations who lay off people when they have a smaller profit margin like say 50 million instead of 100 million, still making 50 million profit is no reason for layoffs, that being said it totally sucks to be an out of work coal miner who hopes to get work from this site. coal with scrubbers burns clean so why not get the coal industry moving again?
Yeah? How about Muskrat Falls in Newfoundland? That's been called by its own government a "boondoggle" and which has led to a doubling of electricity prices in that province?
