I live in Iraq. Iraq has 15% unemployment. 40% of Iraqi children live below poverty line according to UNICEF. Iraq has one of the lowest minimum wages in the region ($200) while being one of the richest in resources. Staggering levels of inequality. Iraq suffers from more hunger today than it did under embargo.
Downplaying deep-rooted systematic issues is at the expense of the majority of people. We have to see the problem for what it really is in order to fix it.
Neoliberalism has plundered Iraq only benefiting foreign corporations and local mafias. Baghdad is filled with malls, private schools and private hospitals. Yet its infrastructure is crumbling with little to no social service. It gets worst in more rural areas where public schools are made from mud. Political change has to happen. It is the reason behind the 2019 protests. Iraqis will own their resources, kick out foreign monopolies and develop again like they did in 1958.
It's hilarious how you only interviewed business owners and upper class people in the richest parts of the capital city.
As an American, its great to see our Iraqi brothers and sisters building up their country! 🇺🇲🇮🇶

Iraq isn't building. Foreign capital is building for-profit commodity centres while the poor suffer.
We are heading to where Egypt is.
I'm Iraqi living in Baghdad and Iraq is very safe now.
I met the most wonderful hopeful people at The Station (the co-working space) from Iraqi Traveller's Cafe a year ago and it was super inspiring. Let's hope the beef between Iran and Israel doesn't disrupt the progress being made in Baghdad in a spillover effect.
I’ve been always a fan of your blogs which made me like historical places
The ball is in iraqi people's court. A few macro and micro implementations would change the Iraq for great betterments.
1. Have peaceful and friendly relations with neighbours. This is a must for security and peace in side the country.
2. Do not let the debt go beyond limits. If possible have a balanced budget for 7 years.
3. Put the rural are in pace, specially prepare for climate change. Local water management is the key for Iraq to grow.
Iraqi here and I bet we were doing better than your country in the 70s and 80s in terms of living standards before sanctions. Don't lecture us.
I also like how you think we have democracy and it is our choice under the current corrupt dictatorship 😂
USA threatens countries to confiscate their government money in all banks over the world if they decide to kick out usa forces :D
Or the order their puppets to imprison democratic presidents like in pakistan so they can install their dictator friends for contract deals over ressources.
Or if you dont obey they assasinate you or invade you like gadaffi
just without law and illegal wars
who cares

Hopefully they can prosper and all the Iraqi refugees in Europe will go back to Iraq and help rebuild.
What a pointless war. And it's due to Netanyahu getting what he wanted. Unnecessary war that led to so many innocent people dying.

Welcome to Iraq at any time
Thanks Uptin for bringing this. Iraqis deserve a better life after all the painful history that they went through.
I’m surprised to hear the narrative about the Iraqi Dinar. The Dinar is about to be reinstated and revalued and will have a much higher exchange rate compared to the USD. Prime Minister Al-Sudani and Dr. Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq from the Central Bank of Iraq was just in America last week and they were here for about a week. There were negotiations made with oil/gas manufacturers in Houston, Texas.
The reason for making USD illegal in Iraq is because Iraq is cutting ties with America and the petrodollar before announcing the new exchange rate. There is currently a project happening in Iraq where the Dinar will cut the three zeros from the Dinar because the currency will be so valuable, that they have to re-denominate the notes.
Lots of great news happening for Iraq and the Iraqi citizens. Congratulations.
Nice to see at least one person on here that is well read!
Great for Irak! The US attack seems unjust for me (without any deeper knowledge of the conflict). I hope the Iraqi people will be able to build a society fitting their wishes and traditions.
Thanks.

One of the best countries in Middle East! Both Iran and Iraq have a lot of potentials if they are managed properly.
Iran can do with a better management but reality is.. The main reason Iran is not doing as good as it should is caused by US sanctions.
@@crowguy4350 Fair point, the U.S. sanctions are hurting innocent people, but if Iran stopped attacking American citizens and boats … maybe something can change.

In terms of security, Iraq has become much better than in the past, but due to tensions in the region, we are still witnessing some events, that is, in the entire Middle East region, not just Iraq.
I am not from Iraq, but I have traveled all over the Middle East. Iraq is a country I visited in 2014 and I went again last year. The changes could be well understood.
It was scheduled a few days ago. Crazy tho
Tension is happening now in the entire Middle East, not just Iraq, because of the Gaza-Israel war
I do not, but countries like Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria are known to have the most kind-hearted people. Hope and lots of love from India .
The problem with Iraq is near landlocked country.
It can only be a junior partner of Iran or Kuwait when it comes to trade
Yeah thats crap since they have a big port in Um Qasr and building one of the worlds biggest ports as we speak.
Switzerland is also Landlocked

To answer your initial question; Yes. If the US stops sticking its nose in the middle east in general the area will see peace.
It’s been 21 years. Stop bringing up war ffs let Iraq move on
i went to iraq 7 years ago it was very safe only bad thing was power outerges and the heat
The south is hot, the capital too, the center is mostly mild, and the north is moderate
"The area was funded by the US Gov." Talk about irony.
Right lol. War in Iraq was a scam
I mean, the current Iraqi government is the same one the U.S. set up in 2004. Iraq is now a U.S. ally (and basically the U.S. won in Iraq).
@@paulmuscat2542 and yet people not from Iraq say that things would be better if Saddam was still in power lmao 💀
@@louiesouthgate8347yes, this is far more complicated than all the lame arguments saying US isn’t a big factor why things are better today than they were anytime under Saddam. Glad Iraq is finally calm after all the crazy stuff with Saddam Husein, the war, and Isis.
Their money will be worth more than the dollar.
Why would anyone invest in Iraq a flip of a switch and you lose everything
It's kinda crazy how Iraq is one of the most democratic countries in the middle east and north Africa. I guess the US invasion was at least a partial success despite all of the deaths and destruction.
Something which could not be replicated in Afghanistan.
Its funny to think that it was America that brought the democratic mentality. We always had a democratic mentalitiy. It was just Saddam that stopped that. Yes its good that he is gone, but we didnt need America to put that mentality into us, it has always been there..
Comparing to sociopathic tyrant regime before 2003, of course US intervention was 💯 more advantageous
democracy isn't synonymous with success
Enough with that "democracy" bullshit that invasion was unjustified
@@Ribama_ True. But personally I would pick a flawed democracy over an autocratic rule, any day.
Very interesting. I spent a year in Iraq during the “Bush Surge” [2007 to 2008] as an Army soldier. My job was to protect supplies in transit, so I probably seen more of Iraq than most Iraqis. It never occurred to me to revisit Iraq because the infrastructure back then was non-existent. When I was there, 80% of the populous didn’t have access to clean water. I saw hundreds of miles of adobe houses and dirt roads. To see they now have malls is mind boggling.
Still, it’s not safe for Americans to travel there just yet. The large Shia population has a strong connection to Iran. I wouldn’t build a summer home there just yet.
This video is missing the fact that conflict between shia and sunna is still underlying the situation and I imagine it could cause at any point. This video makes me want to cry, I left Baghdad when I was 16 to the US and I never left the house without being driven somewhere. Thank you for your service!
Wow thanks for sharing your perspective. I think it’s important to note I’m Iranian American, and whether I introduced myself as Iranian or American, most of the Iraqi’s I met had almost no reaction or care. Its young population is heavily influenced by CZcams, which wasn’t the case 10 years ago.
But of course the people I met can’t be representative of all Iraqi’s or much more nuanced views.
I hope for stability!
"It never occurred to me to revisit Iraq because the infrastructure back then was non-existent. When I was there, 80% of the populous didn’t have access to clean water"
And all the US bombing of Iraq had nothing to do with the "lack of infrastructure"?
@MithunOnTheNet No, any U.S bombing occurred at the beginning of the War in the 1st year. We were there for 8 years, and it the U.S. that built and modernized the infrastructure.
@@donaldkinsey5245except Iraq had clean water, good healthcare, good universities and solid infrastructure until the 1991 bombings of the first gulf war targeted all of that… Iraq was not always a violent backwater … you helped make it that way

Bush’s goal was to create a pro-American country in the Middle East and to remove a dictator that was strongly anti-American (and was seen as a threat). The oil argument is a public myth, the Bush administration isn’t stupid. If you invade a stableish country and destabilise it, you will cut oil supplies (as rogue groups sabotage/rob them) and raise the global oil price. Thus hurting the American pocket and reducing the chance of re-election.
Looks better than many parts of the US!!

you can always count on women from any conservative country to discover Instagram and the internet and become more liberal
Rebuilding ? As if everything was burned down, which it wasn't. And "invasion" is an inaccurate word to use here since a lot of Iraqis fought (sometimes) alongside the US against terrorists. Until they all said: "Inshallah" and terrorists took over as per usual in the region.
Just stop with your putrid lies, America clearly destroyed Iraq in 2003
I feel like this video is more than a LITTLE misleading. Sure, Baghdad is fine. But Iraq is more than Baghdad. You have literal militias running parts of the country, an acute water crisis, no sovereignty - Iran essentially controls a lot of actors in the country and Israeli planes can fly over Iraq at will...the currency crisis is but one aspect.
