    Great job. I've never thought about splitting/cutting the 8" block for 'stepping in a foundation'. I always used a brick size CMU....never know how the next generation will bring a project together.

    Great video, this was exactly what I was looking for. It is well edited and shows all the steps in order. I'm interested in building a block wall in my backyard 9 feet high and 127 feet long. I know this will be a task but I'm up for it, would love to get your advice on a block fence of this size

    I have a block wall that has a rounded top. It’s about 4 blocks high. I want to build on top of it. Is that rounded top something I can just break off?

    Man I wish a saw this video sooner! I've been building a 55' wall starting at 4 blocks high then down to 3 blocks to 2 blocks(actually 3 but 1 is under driveway line) split about 18' before each step. Anyways I went way overkill! I put vertical rebar in each column(2 per block) and horizontal rebar at each block stack then filled everything with quicrete.

    I’m in Las Vegas area needing pro to add onto exsisting wall and enclose front with two foot wall and coulums so I can build Wrought iron visual see through arrears. Is there an avg cost so I can be informed when shopping for professional I have only one quote so far and it’s around 3000 labor only? Solid wall is about 20 feet total and 15 feet front column wall.

    What size should the footings be and how much weight can it hold also should anything be done to the ground before building the footings know is making any videos about it I think it would make good place to start ??????

      Depending where you are most cities and Counties have building codes based on soils engineering.
      That determines how you need to build.

    Great video..I am trying to build a wall on my backyard. It will be 6' high and 60' long...I was thinking on addind a pillar every 15ft that would be 5 pillars the reason is I want my wall to be really sturdy. Is there any other option I have other then the pillars?

      Yes vertical #4 rebar every 32" and two horizontals middle and top. Grouted where steel occurs. This is a very strong system.

    Odell, at 3:40 you mention using the laser level to set the line? Is the ling the string between points A and B? Is so, how do you account for the sag in the string ? Effectively putting the 'line' out of correct elevation based on the 'sag' of the string for such long distances.

    I have a house that already has a block wall with caps on it. the wall in the front yard is about 2-3 feet tall and as it goes to the back it goes up much higher. What is the process for raising the front of the wall that is shorter? would I remove the caps and smooth clean and then using mortar and stone blocks raise it up or should I follow another process?

    I’m having a block fence built for my home right now... 6’ and 290 feet and the company is using, almost, no rebar is being used. I pinged 4 rebar total with metal detector in about 100’ that is completed. I’m in Colorado. After seeing your video I think I should question but maybe different in Colorado?? Hope you can offer some input. Thank you

    the hollow block that's on top. if I am only doing three block high. do I need to use the hollow block on the top row? I will be putting fence on top.

    Nice video. How do you allow for weep holes? I can't tell for sure, but it looks like maybe you just didn't mortar every block on the bottom row to the block next to it to allow for water seepage? Can you discuss that a bit?

    Just wondering if you have filled all the hole in the block instead of just the the holes that hold the rebob. Cause wouldn't restain water in the holes that don't have concrete and make the wall boulge after time just wondering and by the you don't very good work. P.s slow down the videos so I could learn a thing or two

    Will a stack of single CMU filled with poured concrete and rebarred to a 4" footing support a 3' wide wooden slats gate?

    I appreciate your videos, they're very well done. I have a 1200 sqft house built in 1910 on pier and beam of some sort. Have you ever dug around a house and poured a foundation in order to upgrade the foundation? Mine is sliding down a hill slightly, they won't let me build new so I have to save the structure. I was thinking about cutting up the subfloor inside so I can build forms so that I can fill concrete up until it hits the bottom of the walls. I can't find anything about this. Any advice would be a life saver. thanks.

      May have to jack up the house. Maybe 6"s. Then do one wall at a time and shim off the new until complete. Then drop the house down

    Building a low, 2' tall max slump stone wall between properties at front yard. How big does the footing need to be? Also, since there's a max 3 rows of block, can I lay the blocks into the footing while wet?

    Also sir, if we built this wall 4 to 6 inches away from the failing wall, could we just fill the gap with gravel or dirt? ,I intend to do this for ease of getting mortor all the way around the block, without working against the dirt wall, is this OK to do, I don't mind losing 6 inches of width of the crawl space, thank you for a response, I wish I could just pay some one to fo this, but when your old and live on social security, just paying the bills is rough, not to mention a car repair once in a while, thanks,again for helping a old-timer out

      The only thing you have to be concerned with is water getting trapped in-between the walls.
      Maybe seal the top in between the walls or make some drain holes at the bottom, or both

      @@OdellCompleteConcrete yep, this is under the house so it's pretty well protected against any elements or water ,and I was thinking of some sort of drain pipe also on the bottom with weep holes for drainage to the simp pump, the only water that really makes it in is from the west side of the house where the snow builds up and on warm days it melts fast , so I think I'll be ok, thank you for the advice , much appreciated

    im a DIY millennial and i have a project for 12 L x 6ft H blocking wall. how deep does the trench have to be, and the rebar is every other web 16in but the horizontal is every how many inches, single or double bars horizontal? basically i want to extend my side wall up to the corner of the front of house or possible front of garage to match which is 20ft from front property line. any advice is greatly appreciated

    I am building a small 2ft tall block wall as a planter running between 2 existing buildings. I am trying to figure out if I can fill in any gap left at either side with stucco or if it should be left open for expansion.

      Leaving it open wont hurt as long as its clean looking.

    Do you guys work in the Inland Empire at all? Noticed that 714 area code.....interested in getting a price estimate for block walls to replace fence. My longest run is 6ft high, 75 feet long (My back property line.

    Hello., I have a house , 70 years old, no basement, just a crawl space, but where the furnace is, you can stand, it's about 6 ft wide ten ft deep, half is block, and the other half is a failing wood wall, I suspect it was all wood at one time, and now the woos is failing on the remaining side, question, there is a cement floor , can I drill holes for rebar and start setting block on top of the concrete floor with mortor under the first row? The house covers from th he elements so I'm OK with that but is this a fees able fix for a four foot high six to eight foot long block wall to replace the failing wood wall?

      I don't know, drill some pilot holes in the concrete and check the depth.
      If its over 6"s, it should work.
      If not maybe stick with new wood.

      @@OdellCompleteConcrete thank you, I'm hoping to remove the furnace and replace that wall, with the furnace outbox yhe way I would be in a good position to try and tackle this , with it there I'm in a jam for sure, lol thank you for a response, I'm old and can't afford to pay anyone ,so as usual my wife and I will be doing this , we built a 20,by 24 garage, total rebuilt a motor in our car, tiled our house ,all room, we are not afraid of work, just with our age it takes ten times as long to finish
