Patients who are unable to get out of bed may need to use a bedpan when urinating or for bowel movements. The standard bedpan looks like a toilet seat and has a wide, high rim. These types of bedpans are placed under the patient with the widest end under their buttocks. The fracture pan has a lower, thinner rim.
Assisting the Resident to Use the Bedpan is one of the CNA Skills that is on the Prometric Nurse Aide examination. Subscribe to our Channel for Free CNA Training Videos and Practice Questions. We post new videos weekly.

I can't explain to you how much this has helped me! I'm not a CNA but I'm an ER tech, I'm a trained and seasoned emt. We weren't taught about any of this but it is now part of my job. The nurses I work with have helped me so much to learn and showing me all the tips and tricks but bed pans are still a issue for me and I can't do it by myself. Ice come to CZcams to learn things I need to know. So thank you for this!

I am working as a PCA at a rehab facility in FLORIDA . In our three day orientation we were shown how to make a bed . No skills except that I have 60 more days to prepare to take the state exam . I worked with other CNA’s for three days each day we had 20 patients . I am working the 11:00pm to 7:00am shift . If I did what I was shown there is no way I would pass the state exam . Can anyone out there help me ??

Does the barrier protection remain after removing the bedpan or should it be removed as well

For the state of Florida exam, it has to be removed. Please check your state's guidelines. Best Wishes!
