That was the biggest RTC punt I've ever seen.

As soon as I saw the shield drop I knew what was going to happen

Historic Brawl is always fun to watch, especially with something as explosive as Gix.
Too bad Arena doesn't have One with Nothing, would have made that spicy play against soldiers cost six less mana!
It does have it as a hidden testing card, we actually could craft it and play with it for a while, until the oversight was fixed (and wildcards given back) !

I do wish there was competitive historic brawl. Only having casual means so many people snap scoop as soon as they are even slightly behind.

@@wordsmith451 Go ahead and find ONE single significant drawback of adding a ranked queue in addition to the unranked one. Please explain to us all how giving players the choice to make their games actually count for something is a bad thing. I'll wait.
This format really is the best way to play arena as cheep as possible!
I think it would be cool to see this being recommended as a guide to play to arena in the cheapest way.
Only having to collect one of each card.

Staples across multiple decks.
I'd love to see more, not just for myself, but for new players!
I'm pretty confident that Gix allows you to cast the cards at any time you activate it. It's worded the exact same way as Golos, who also let you play sorceries at instant speed
Golos doesn't let you play sorceries at instant speed. He says "You may cast them this turn without paying their mana costs." That doesn't ignore timing restrictions. Gix, however, does, as he doesn't give you any deadline on when you can not cast the cards anymore, so you have to play them as part of the resolution of Gix's ability.

More more more! The format is so diverse and unique, and every game feels new. (inb4 Kinnan players complain that the meta is only Golos and Kinnan)
I’ll have you know as an Esika player (who actually plays the Esika side), the meta is only Prismatic Bridge
It's bridge, golos, sheoldred, jodah, and krenko
If you play broken commanders, your meta is only other broken commanders. I play Soul of Windgrace and have been keeping track for the last 300 games, and literally I'm at 170 unique commanders played.

At 30:00, you ask if you can cast spells with Gix in the middle of combat. It is worth mentioning you already know that Gix lets you bypass timing restrictions because you cast all the spells at once during the resolution of his ability. You don't normally have permission to cast spells during the resolution of any ability.

Ohhh more budget brawl please! Being a freemium player I really love the budget videos. I've gotten a LOT of mileage out of the standard mono blue tempo Djinn deck
Although I play mine a bit more on the control side. I took out Delver for Tolarian Terror, Essence Scatter for Capture, and I put in Curate and 1 Teferi

i don't know if this was intentional by the design team, but this gix kinda perfectly captures his story in yawgmoth's origin. he started leading a rebellion against yawgmoth (all the small evasive creatures) but was taken and converted into a praetor, the thing he was fighting (taking from your opponent's deck)
So much fun, I just crafted this deck and as soon as you activate gix, they scoup up hahahaha And nobody expect a 10+ gix activation
Watching Seth play straight into that Valkmira was like watching a car crash in slow motion, you know exactly what's happening and you know it's going to be a disaster, you wince in horror, but you just can't look away

This is about to be my first Historic Brawl deck. I love the budget and Gix's Spin to win ability seems so disrespectful when it works.

That shield turned historic brawl into historic bawl
Valkmira came of long before but still seems like it was designed specifically to counter Gix in a completely fair way by nullifying cheap 1/1 flyers and unblockables and halving the discard potential of the second effect

Thanks to this deck I managed to go 16-0 in Historic Brawl (sure 12 of those games were because of salty scoopers that were gone by turn 3 when I played gix but it's still 16-0)
I play a lot of historic brawl, and the early scoop is something I’m definitely guilty of and trying to get better at that. There is one commander I refuse to play against on principle, Golos, because it’s banned in Commander and all the reasons for its ban get so much more obvious in a 1v1 format.
But I could definitely get better at not salty scooping. I think a reason for it is that there is no ranking on the line, and scooping periodically doesn’t hurt your account.

Today I had a game where I got a Wrenn And Seven, Had it Ultimate and activated a 25 Gix, It was awesome
tbh i think the hauken scooped because that deck runs so many high mana value cards that even a small gix activation would have been devastating

Yeah many of my HBrawl games go like this: I play turn 1 mana dork, OP scoops.
Does Gix work well in Commander? I could see the card draw for hitting opponents being a big upside and a big downside.
So many Myriel decks in historic brawl run a bunch of cards (such as the luminary aspirant in game 2) that just have nothing to do with soldiers at all, and something about that just really ticks me off. If you’re going to build a deck around a soldier commander, then build a deck with soldiers!

The "early scoop" thing is an issue with 2 player brawl vs 4 player, they both have a lot of snowballing but 4 player at least lets you gang up on someone who pulls too far ahead. At least with 3 or 4 people if you get off to an awkward start, you can maybe go under the radar a bit while other people throw resources at each other.
I feel like typical commander decks often lead to uninteresting 2 player games, though other singleton formats seem to manage it fine. Might just be that, compared to regular 2 player singleton, commanders themselves are too strong in the same way that companions were, especially when they ramp or draw cards.
It’s okay to actually try to win Seth. The gix activation vs soldiers wasnt needed when you had Gary in hand.

idk what it is with brawl players and dark ritual, apparently a t1 dark ritual is always unwinnable so the only option is to scoop.
