29:32 The idea of this dwarf just showing up and IMMEDIATLY hopping into a mech, and then handing that mech an enormous hammer, and then piloting that hammer-swinging mech straight into the opponents face is just so funny to me. Like, imagine that happening in D&D
It’s a very anime series of events when described outside of the context of MTG
I've ran into the Alchemy Niambi deck before. It's actually a weird combo deck. It works by playing Niambi and a Clone creature. You legend rule the clone, so it dies and reanimates itself as a copy of Niambi, and it perpetually gains an additional "When this creature becomes the target of a spell, draw a card." You loop this until it has about 80 draw a card abilities, then target it with a spell, draw your deck, and win with Oracle/Lab Man effect.
For hammer vs Kirin, youre talking about timestamps not layers. Layers trump timestamps. Timestamps are how you figure out what applies within the same layer. For example, the first layer is copy effects. Farther down is ability changing stuff. So if I clone your thing, then get hit by Dress Down, the cloned thing will lose abilities, but it wont turn back into a 0/0 clone because that is on a lower layer. Whether you play the clone first or second, it will still always function as a clone around a Dress Down.
Yeah, he had the right idea, but wrong thing. Timestamps not layers. Even his Blood Moon and Dryad of Ilysian Grove example is timestamp based.
I think when some people say layers they mean the layer system of which timestamps (and the individual layers) are a part of. It does lead to ambiguity, though.
I’d absolutely love more historic brawl content!
And love Historic Brawl! Please do it more frequently on the channel 🙏
And as a cEDH and Paradox Engine lover, yes, a Ranked HB queue would be awesome for us to have the play experience we love and want, of competing with the best thing our opponents can bring ❤
Niambi's art is from the DMU stories, she's caretaking for the baby leonin.
19:38 Love this teach part, finally a good teacher and lesson about layers. Thanks Seth
Gotta say the Brawl content is great
MORE! Historic Brawl is the only fun I have anymore on Arena. It's such a goofy, fun, diverse format where a ton of older and more obscure cards get to see play.
What historic brawl are YOU playing? Every matchup I get is either versus heavy control or ridiculously fast aggro. I never see anybody with a "fun" deck which is why I play cancer now instead of fun things like Tazri Maskwood every-tribal. I want to play fun vs fun but every time I bring something fun I get paired with cancer so now I only bring cancer so it's sad
@@ryangainey94 Can you say "cancer" again? I'm not sure you're getting your point across.
Also, idk. I don't run into lot of control. And aggro isn't all that good in singleton formats, so it isn't hard to stop.
@@ryangainey94 you are playing a string commander and are thus banished to the string que
Love the Brawl content! ❤️
I'm so happy you're playing historic brawl more! 😁😁
We really need to see more brawl content that isn’t the basic stuff like Ivy and Tiamat and stuff.
As someone who plays Historic Brawl almost exclusively, this is great to see!
Also, would Weatherlight be a good fit for this deck (the not compleated one)? It’s a neat vehicle that lets you go digging for historic cards, so it hits all your artifacts as well as the handful of legends and sagas.
It is so amazing to see fun, fair decks beat Crim-style control decks. Love to see it!
Seth your content is my favorite and seeing you play brawl makes me wish I could thoughtseize myself so i can rewatch it as if it were a new episode 😭😭
Seth, I gotta say :
After seeing so many other content creators out there, some focusing on Historic Brawl, it makes me so happy for you to do some content with the format.
You know how to host, share an experience with an audience, and generally be really positive and fun to watch…even if you flub a few pronunciations from time to time 😂
Thanks for keeping the content going, and I ask that you keep showcasing fun builds in Historic Brawl!
Great content, cant wait to see more historic brawl!
Always love the videos! More historic brawl content! Thanks!!!
Thank you so much for the historic brawl video!!!
I love historic brawl and I would welcome more content of it on thos channel.
I fully agree with you there are too many early scoops in Historic Brawl it definitely takes all the fun away.
Very entertaining, I was going to skip this video because it was historic brawl, but it's very good. So I encourage anyone else to watch it.
btw the baby leonin is the child from a family of leonin refugges Niambi was helping.
Good to have you back from Vegas!
Layers for the win! I'm so proud of Seth with how proud he is of himself.
I get that it’s the meme, but man, “Basilis” collar fucking got to me on this one 😂😂😂. Love the videos Seth and Goldfish crew!
thanks for playing historic brawl, it's a fun format
Historic Brawl is actually really fun.
The best time of the moth, Historic Brawl!
Ranked queue might be nice, although it would have A LOT of 5-color piles which don't always make the most fun games sometimes
Oj yeah brawl time baby!!!
I'm really glad you beat "Badasscracker"
@20:59 you are exactly correct lol
Yes Seth playing Brawl!!!!!!!!!
OG Commander decks were also the debut of Scavenging Ooze.
My most recent commander deck is the Minsc and Boo from Baldur's Gate, hamster and pseudo haste/trample tribal, it's pretty fun tbh, the first I've run with a Planeswalker at the helm 😁
17:58 You have a free mulligan seth.
Now we need an Astor and Commander boat vehicles deck
More historic brawl plz!
Since the shadow banning of Winota, i miss a good Boros HB deck. Gonna try this list
YOOOOOOOOOOO HISTORIC BRAWL HAMMERTIME
Seth! GATES is a hilariously fun deck in Historic Brawl and is actually very strong because no one prepares for it. I'll email you a deck list!
"Add more MDFCs to your deck"
But Seth, what if I'm already playing Oops All Spells?!! D:
I would LOVE a ranked Brawl queue! Please for the love of God!
My boy finally getting some love 😫
I need Astor in my Breya vehicles deck!
Yes, yes, yes to another Historic Brawl play option with some stakes on the line.
Would love to see more Historic Brawl. No idea what to do about scoops though. I'm guilty of early scooping frequently, because in a format like Historic Brawl, it's just so easy for your opponent to overwhelm you in card advantage and must-answer cards if you get a slow start or if they open with some ramp. There's also a lot of people who are just playing singleton control/combo decks and treating their Commanders more like a companion, just a free value card they can access at any time, rather than actually building decks around their commander. Those are frustrating and boring to play against, so if I match against someone who's deck is clearly mono removal and counters, I'll just concede. No idea if there's enough players for a split between casual and ranked queues or not. Would be nice to give the try hard players a different queue to play in
I've been asking for a ranked for historic for awhile, would be a lot of fun!
Hopefully all the sweaty Paradox Engine players would join that queue instead 😂
No one expects the Mana Tithe, not even Seth!
Seeing a lot of hammer decks since the Paul Pelosi attack
Big fan of Astor.
Love seeing more historic brawl, recently iv3 been trying to make oracle of the alpha work lol I've gotten it work well one time where I took 5 turns in a row!
21:04 But what happens if you equip cloudsteel kirin, then colossus hammer, then equip cloudsteel kirin again to that same creature? Flying?
Timestamps and layers are not synonymous.
Blood Moon and Ashaya would involve layers. Vesuva and Imprison in the Moon.
Something affecting the same event a second time doesn't really even complicate matters.
Cool
Ranked historic brawl as well as unranked would be fun
Great video! Maybe... bi-weekly? Honestly, Historic Brawl is almost all that I play these days. Singleton feels weirdly natural for MTG.
The Early Scoop thing is a thing in any online Magic.
Not having to setup , shuffle, and see your opponent kinda makes the decision to leave trivial.
Two clicks, requeue.
In a physical game, it's different.
You need to find an opponent, if it's a competitive game or tournament you need to wait for the next round ...
Along the same vein as Chance for Glory and Glorious End, I strongly recommend Response // Resurgence. For some reason nobody plays this card, which I find baffling because it has two very good modes: a surprisingly efficient removal spell, or a game-stealing monster.
Who else thought Seth was going to throw when he wasn't sure if flying would work after equipping the hammer lol
I expected pioneer, but brawl is amazing for this
How did she have a lion cub? She got that Ajani fever
Mana Tithe karma for all the times you have gotten your opponents with it haha
SaffronOlive, welcome back, we’ve missed you.
This is a sweet deck. It is a shame that people do scoop early so often in Historic Brawl. And I’m always surprised by the amount of control people play in the format.
Unfortunately most people only care about winning and not playing for fun when it comes to historic brawl queues. I used to bring fun stuff but stopped when I kept getting paired with cancer
Blue is pretty squarely the strongest color in Historic Brawl. When your whole game plan revolves around ramp, card advantage, and playing your cards at the correct times, a single counterspell can throw the game. When there are so many haymaker spells and massive card advantage swings in every deck, one counter can oftentimes be the end.
@@zachgray4767 Not to mention that you start at a higher life total, and Blue interacts the best with Paradox Engine, one of the best wincons in the format.
16:10 -1 on the Mana Tithe counter
playing some historic brawl and showing everyone that the praetors should be feared ( all I can say is that reading the card explains the card ).
My kind of deck
Play more Brawl!!!!
Hamma time
I think that at least a significant number of people who concede on the first 3 turns are people play testing their deck
As a biologist, a Bacillus Collar is just as bad for a person as a Basilisk Collar is.
yeeeeessssss, my least favorite part about brawl is when you have the dream draw and opponent scoops because he didnt hit land #3, or in my case most of the time i play mono red chandra, and people already think its a bad matchup for them if i kill their first mana dork or 2 drop and they will just concede.
My garruk, cursed huntsman deck is the best historic brawl deck I have lol
I like brawl
I'm down for ranked brawl.
Player removal is the best removal
Beunar Battlehammer
ba-ser-lisk is the correct pronunciation
PSA for Fighter Class in Astor decks: level 2 makes ALL equips FREE by reducing Astors own "equip 1" ability to ZERO.
Sadly, Arena does NOT comunate this visually and I've been seeing a lot of players pay mana for this.
'It's just 'sweet Ass...ter stuff''.
Thats not layers, its timestamp
It's so ridiculous how pretty much every 5 color pile hits ramp/fixing to have all their colors by turn 5 without fetches. You're correct on layering, it's all about which effect occurred first.
/facepalm
BREW-NOR
BAS-I-LISK
would ranked historic brawl still have the deck matching algorithm? if it was a total free for all then i think that would just be a toxic wasteland of the most annoying decks in the world, so it's fine if they wanna make it for people but i aint touchin that. i'll take the early concessions because much like crim, i just concede when people take too long to mulligan sometimes lmao
Historic brawl is fun, I just wish I wouldn’t have to face jodah or go shinti every other match (I play jank like Sol Kanar, Tameshi, and Narset of the Ancient ways)
It's funny how you like Planeswalkers as commanders, while on the contrary it's imo one of the weaknesses of the format. I don't like that it's a possibility as it rewards control decks too much. You wrath and stick a PW commander and it's bye bye.
I don't like that and Alchemy cards of course lol.
But it's great to see more Historic Brawl, it's the format I play the most by FAR on the client.
I early scoop all the time. It's better than sitting around knowing your deck can't beat what's on the board. Historic brawl can be powerful and turn 3 board states that can win are easy to run into.
Hey, just wondering what's up with the spoiler videos on CZcams? You guys haven't posted any..
Previews plz
Opponent takes 15 damage bias Mech with a huge Hammer.
*thinks*
Proceeds to take another 15 via same method and lose following turn.
WHAT?¡
I used to like the format, but I always matched against golos, teferi, Esika, while playing a midrange ziatora, that and alchemy made me uninstall arena. Either the player base is way too small and everyone is a tryhard or i only matched against those decks for some reason
"here's how I like to think about (layers)" *proceeds to explain time stamps*
Where's the spoilers videos??? Lol I need my fix
Seth was at Magic 30 in Las Vegas, and afterwards is having a well-deserved vacation =) so no spoiler videos until he comes back (and not sure even then)
Yeah definitely the reason you don't see many planeswalkers is power level. The good ones like Nissa are forced to mirror match or play against Korvold and such. And if its not a powerful PW there just arent many people playing them
Meow
If I said it once I’ll say it a million times. I hate farewell, it does way too much, and that nearly every deck with white runs it, it’s made trying to play anything except spell decks miserable
I think part of why you don't necessarily see so many planeswalkers is that wizards splits up the brawl queue based on estimated power level of the commander, so teferi hangs out in the "hell queue" and you're not super likely to come up against one with a cool janky brew like this
Jodah should be in the hell queue.
Got a source? That's awesome
@@curlyparmesan its a well known fact about hb thats why esika nicol bolas and teferi always get matched against each other 24/7
@@curlyparmesan It's not officially called the "hell queue," but I do believe they have officially stated that commander power level is one of the factors used in Historic Brawl matchmaking.
I believe they do that with tribal decks too. Every time I've queued up with a tribal commander it's always against another tribal deck.
