I have the Xtherm, Nemo extreme, and S2S extreme. I just received the Nemo and haven't used it yet so I can't say how good it is. The S2S is heavy but really comfortable and warm. The Xtherm is even warmer but is uncomfortable for me. I am a side sleeper and both of my shoulders went numb on multiple nights. I gave it to my son who does not have any issues with it at all. If the Nemo sleeps well and is as warm as they say it is, that will be a win for me!
Definitely would recommend the Thermarest Neoair Xtherm Max. I literally slept on top of snow last winter, staring at the stars at -20 and was super comfy, warm and cozy 😂
My dream gear items right now are a Durston Xmid 1 Pro or a Tarptent Double Rainbow Li, a Western Mountaineering sleeping bag and a hot tent (still deciding which one).
Good to know! do you find the crinkly noise overbearing?
I think it's not that bad, I toss and turn usually at night in the backcountry and I can deal with it, no big deal. If you are very sensitive to sounds and have a light sleep I would not recommend it tho. @@MattyOutdoors
I got the OR echoe hoodie and I use it in all seasons. Very versatile layer. Mine is bright orange because it was $10 cheaper 🙂
This was absolutely brilliant upload bud, such a enjoyable and actually useful content!
Thanks a ton!
I have the DCF tarp from Hammock Gear and you will love it! Happy Hiking
i hope so
Super fun video. I love dreaming! I just finished a Dream AT Gear List and I can't wait to start building it out.
once i get my dream gear, i dream of more
Would love either the Kakwa pack or the x-mid 2 tent from Durston Gear. Maybe Santa will be good to me this year.
fingers crossed!
I did the Nemo Tensor Extreme and am loving it. I'm picking up another Echo for the same reason as you though, my first one is way too dark coloured and gets hot without a breeze. It's what I get for always picking the clearance colour, but it's been a great sunhoodie. Mine is pretty snagged up too after taking it through too many blackberry and Devil's Club
im thinking a light grey would be ideal
My list is probably endless lol. Same with the tarp. The HG tarp looks nice. The Trangia kettle with the stainless knob. The FlexTail Mosquito repeller. Bridge hammock. Some of the 1P Tarptent tents.
The tarptent's are awesome! I love my dyneema protrail. very roomy side to side for a 1P, and good ventilation
You forgot to mention backcountry bidet! 😂😂
Xtherm max is pretty hard to beat for warmth and a very competitive weight too.
definitely didn't forget
Hammock camping is much better than tenting for me too! So much so that I think am willing to carry the weight of a Tensa Treez trekking pole for areas with few trees. Looking to buy one
Thought about those, but figured its easier for me to just plan trips around using my hammock
@MattyOutdoors Ya I do that. But there are some areas with limited trees I want to explore
Nice gear wishlist... I have many gear items on my wishlist but my most expensive one is the Zpack Duplex tent. I would love to get one but... I'm from Canada and the tent is super $$$ + shipping ...Wow!
Swap, I want one, and I'm in Australia.
Im Canadian as well, I feel you on those charges.....
@@MattyOutdoors Boo, what about us upside down folks. No feelings?
#1 piece of gear I want: A mule!
Speaking of which, was I hallucinating or did that guy really have a backpack on his backpack?
not hallucinating
I have reached the end of the rainbow on most of my gear. The only things I might upgrade would be a new 20°F quilt instead of my sleeping bags (which I use like quilts) and changing some clothing colors. All of mine is a shade of gray. 🦑
you wont regret the quilt
MSR Titan kettle and Tensa Trekking Trees would be my wish list. The Tensa Trekking Trees are uber expensive for a pair but I really like the idea of not be dependant on tree location to hang my hammock.
the trekking trees are heavy, and can be a pain to set up if you cant get stakes super deep
I had Exos and was great, very comfy but its was kinda sticking out of my back in top area if you know what I mean, I bought Gregory Focal 55L and wow I could not belive its very similar but actually better made in my opinion and even more comfy and sits way better closer on my back. Walked 300km with its last month and was awesome. Try if you see it somewhere in a shop.
I got Rapide SL and love it also, not wintery pad but close enought and super comfy as well.
If I see one I'll definitely try one on!
My ghost whisperer has definitely seen better days.
mine too
A new hammock tarp is probably my next upgrade. DCF is not in the budget, but I'm thinking about the Dutchware bonded winter tarp. Also considering a lighter/higher temp rated top quilt as my 20 degree is a bit much for moderate temps. But on the other end, a Superior Gear insulated hammock would be awesome for colder trips.
DCF isnt necessarily in my budget either, I just have to save a bunch more
@@MattyOutdoors - Budgeting (for me) also has a lot to do with how much you'll use something. If I was crushing miles on the regular I'd absolutely justify the spending on a DCF tarp. I'm just a weekend warrior, so upgrading my budget silpoly tarp to some bonded xenon will be a nice improvement for now.
As I sit here waiting for my truck alignment to finish I’ve had 30 minutes to contemplate what gear I want. I’m devastated to come up with nothing. As a gear nerd I need manufacturers to up their game and help me develop a wish list. Until then I’ll work on my trail wish list.
Couldn't agree more! A couple things on my wishlist don't seem to exist yet
theres something to be said about having a fully dialed in kit
@@MattyOutdoors I’ve been doing this for a lot of years
Really wanting pairable light down sleeping bags for me and my partner. The prices are outrageous, but our Canadian Tire bags are bulky and heavy!
zenbivy makes a 2 person setup, ive considered it for my fiance and i
I am really considering getting a Durston X-mid 1p solid if I am able to finish the last 130 miles of the Colorado Trail next year. I did my hike with the SMD Lunar Solo and I am really happy with it for the most part but it is not a tent that I would want to be caught camping above treeline in
Why wouldn't the lunar solo handle above treeline?
@MattyOutdoors it is really susceptible to wind, the doors in particular are up off the ground a good bit for ventilation so you have to be mindful of wind direction and not pitch so that the front will catch wind in addition to considering ground slope when pitching.
I might work on changing the tie-outs a bit to make storm pitching a bit easier, but as it comes it wouldn't be my ideal alpine tent if I were doing it again
Ah, too bad. I just sold my Exos 58 in the previous version Black/Green. Literally 3 days ago.
morning man. im also looking at upgrading to a real winter sleeping pad like the xtherm. i have an uberlite and i find it comfortable, so im thinking of sticking with thermarest and picking that pad up. if you get the new nemo tensor extreme let us know what you think.
I definitely will
Nice video...everyone loves to dream. Thanks for sharing. Like many of the other comments gear just doesn't have the same pull (to purchase) that it used to have. Most of my gear is fairly current and dependable. I do hammock and tent and use a quilt. I would love to try a Zen Bivy system. I live in South Alabama. Believe it or not, we do have bears along with mean ass wild hogs, dogs and the occasional lunatic. So, I would like a can of bear spray. Yes, I do carry a pistol...as a last resort. Hey, that's an idea... I would like a compact 9mm. Thanks for the idea, Matt. 👴
guns on trail is 100% un necessary.
I need an ultra light sleeping bag for winter time. Have been looking on sea to summit flame Vl, cumulus and western mountaineering, but find it difficult. The first one I have some isues with, the other ones uses 850 fillpower down quality in the comford ratings that I need instead of 900 fillpower and that makes the sleeping bag get a bit heavier than i aim for. So havn't decided yet.
I also wish for
a New tent for winter time, maybe hmg
A New 70 liter backpack for winter time, ula or hmg
Crampons
Snowshoes
Powerbank Nitecore summit
Headlamp
winter bags definitely get tough to pick out
I noticed your hammock set up, what insect tent are you using, It seems to fit really well 👍👍
cave creek pet palace
Thanks👍
I’ve mostly given up on hammocks after spending much time trying to figure out bottom insulation but never wanted the expense of an under quilt. But I must say that I’m curious about the Amok Draumr set up but am not willing to pay close to $1000 to try it out. It would be heavier than my current sleeping setup but would be fun to try.
Have you tried the superior gear superior hammock?
@@kylemckinney_22 I had not heard of that brand. Nice idea though but I don’t want to buy down products.
down is superior to any synthetic insulation.. Its the smartest choice for weight, warmth and packability
@@MattyOutdoors I understand all that. I just don’t like the notion of birds dying (RDS) or being plucked alive (non-RDS) in order to provide insulation. I’d rather compromise a bit on volume and weight. My personal choice.
Try outdoor vitals Sun Hoodie
the Echo is lighter
I prefer sun hoodies with a 1/4 chest zip - better ventilation. The Montbell sun hoodie is great. Be sure not to get a dark coloured sun hoodie
Look into the Anetik Ultraguide long sleeve sun hoodie. Full button up and well made. I love mine!
I like tensor .. less noicy.
My Nemo tensor extreme conditions came in at 2.5 oz over the listed weight… unforgivable
your scale might be broken
@@MattyOutdoors weighed it on 3 different scales bc I couldn’t believe it myself. Best I got was a .1 oz variance lol.
@@krj6584 .1 oz difference is minor
@@MattyOutdoors by that, I mean 2 of the 3 scales had it at 26.5oz packed, the third scale weighed it at 26.4oz.
@@MattyOutdoors look at their website reviews. Everyone says weight is off. One person has the R/W, and their scale had it weighing more than the listed weight for the L/W lol
HMG Porter 5400 for canoe camping.
nice pack
I packraft - the ULA Epic is perfect for that
Some cottage vendors are starting to make tarps out of ultra and it’s significantly cheaper.
who???
@@MattyOutdoorsetowah outfitters has a few options for tarps made out of ultra. I’m trying to decide on an 8x10 or a 10x10.
Want to save space? Use a pad instead of outside under-quilt. I've tried both and can't figure our why anyone would use an under-quilt. Pad is a fraction of the pack space and weight. And a Pad will work down to whatever R-Value you want. Under-quilt is at best a 0F.
Sorry - i commented too early. I have dozens of winter pad. My favorite is now the TR XTherm NXT L/W. Or Max Large. R=7.3 and small as Nalgene. I like the Exped Dura 8 and the old Down XP9 LW. TR Xtherm wins due to size.
BTW, may want to put on a pad cover on like the ones from Exped. If you swap out your under-quilt for a pad, you will be AMAZED.
an underquilt is way more comfortable then a pad, thats why
I think I am set...i just need a new adventure vehicle. She's had enough of the questionable New England forest roads and weather.
I hope you're able to find something fun to rip around in! Having an enjoyable ride to an adventure destination means you're always off to a good start!
Thermarest > Nemo
in what regard?
Durability is much better. I had the 2022 tensor and it kept popping baffles and they would replace it np but after the 3rd one I went back to the neo air.
