If you're watching this, the game is still super worth a buy, including the 3 DLCs available. And they're currently working on a 4th DLC, which they update us about in their Steam blog.
@@kkaruzo7716 given how the game loves to torture you and make you start over and over (because your brothers will die a lot at first), I'd say don't buy the DLCs yet. start the journey vanilla, just like most of us did. I already have 450+ hours in-game :D
I confess, I only got 7 minutes in before writing a comment. Does it matter? I don't have to watch the video to give my opinion on the game, which was the main focus of my comment.
I've started playing this game a few days ago and its becoming one of my favourties. Thanks for reviewing such games Mack, wouldn't have known of this gem if it wasn't for you :)
The game is excellent but I do wish it had gotten a DLC or something that added something along the lines of establishing a village, turn it into a castle eventually. Nothing too deep in terms of management or simulation but a base, and some benefits (maybe minor benefits) to owning it, and then it could get attacked and you can assist your garrison or something. I know a mod was made for this but I could never get it to work.
great review as usual Mack, you're the only reviewer i trust anymore! Have you ever played any of the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games? Shadow of Chernobyl (with Oblivion Lost mod) is probably my favourite game of all time.
Nice review. I added this game to my wishlist on steam when it was early access and was surprised when it came out. I'm glad it appears to be a success story.
Ahh yes 2017. Destiny to Destiny 2, Overwatch was booming, Fortnite BR was fun and not sweaty, and we still had Apex in a few years. Good times for shooter fans as well as rpg fans. I’m hoping Menace in 2024 will turn out to be at least as good as Battle Brothers. Hyped up for that game, so I’m here watching BB reviews lol.
I haven't played a turn based RPG since King's Bounty on the Megadrive. I hold that game responsible for me failing my A Levels 1st time round. I have no exams to fail anymore, just life. I'm in.
It's rare that you see an EA game done as well as this and by such a tiny studio. I'm glad I backed it. I'm hundreds of hours into the game and still in love with it.
I started it, got killed, read some steam guides, started again, got killed again, watched some youtube guides, started again, got killed again, and refunded
Matt if u got time on ur hands, please review battle brothers blazing sands with LEGENDS and STRONGHOLD mods installed (their plug and play, install legends first and stronghold after and you can start the game). it will probbaly take you at least a hundred hours to get any bearing on it but i'm sure u'll have a shit ton of fun. (deepest game u will ever play in ur life). a true testement to the old days when games had vision.
Tried it and I hate it. I am so sick of these masochism simulators. You just get fucked over in the game, just absolutely destroyed in every encounter. You are constantly managing your losses. Almost every encounter is 12 heavily armed men or overpowered undead/direwolves that rape you. The rewards allow you to do nothing but replace the men that died during the quest. This is like a mix between Mount&Blade and Darkest Dungeon. Absolute torture to play.
Do you play iron man mode Mack? It will make your game a lot more tense with only one save ! Glad you liked this game been playing it since its beta and love it, plus the devs are a great bunch :)
A couple of the comments have asked you to review this game, including mine, so I'm very glad you chose to do it. I am going to guess that you think it is worth a buy before watching the video and will eat a big slice of humble pie if you don't like it. My only worry is that the price on release is higher than it was during early access but I guess that is the way the early access model should be working for all publishers (ie. you get it cheaper if you buy it while they are still making it).
OMG you also remember Lords of Midnight on the speci I spent so many hours playing that game I lost half my life on it and have never found a game like that. I've been toying with the idea of buying this but just don't know.
It says a lot Mac if the Switch port is equally addictive as the PC original. Can't think of many titles like this. I play for maybe 30 mins, look up and 4 hours have passed oops.
Is this game just turn based in the tactical combat screen? I seem to recall the strategic screen appeared to be moving in some kind of real time fashion.
nice review. keep up the great work mack. emm.. and something more.. in your latest videos your sound ( mic + game ) are low. In latest videos i must have the volume at least twice louder from older videos
I have this game, it impresses quickly, but it fizzles really quick (~16 hrs into BB). Mount & Blade Warband doesn't fizz out so quick (I've got like 600 hours into M&BW) as there's a ton of other things to do besides combat. But Battle Bros, it's just combat. The reason is everything you do has zero consequences. The Worldmap is very static, factions don't interact outside of a scripted event, you can't even plunder towns, or attack caravans (you can eventually, when you become an enemy of that faction), but even so, attacking their caravans cause nothing to happen. Do the towns run out of supplies? Nope. Does it affect their troop equip, training, wages or morale? Nope. For a sandbox, it is a really shallow one and this is the biggest drawback of the game. However, the tactical battles are fun, because it's challenging, deep and really tactical. It should be $19.99 though, as the shallow sandbox drags it down.
i like the idea and everything but RNG just kills the game, some times u have best gear best soldiers and they miss 50 times in a row while getting hit every single time and it boils down to who is luckier rather than who is more skilled and better geared.
If you're watching this, the game is still super worth a buy, including the 3 DLCs available. And they're currently working on a 4th DLC, which they update us about in their Steam blog.
Should i start my first adventure with all dlcs? Or is it the same at the start?
@@kkaruzo7716 given how the game loves to torture you and make you start over and over (because your brothers will die a lot at first), I'd say don't buy the DLCs yet. start the journey vanilla, just like most of us did. I already have 450+ hours in-game :D
How about now
Great review Mack. I absolutely can't stop playing this gem, love it to pieces at the moment! 20 hours in 2 days!
xD, you haven't even had enough time to watch the entire video :P
If that was what I was here for I'd have written "first" :P
But you didn't have enough time to possibly view the video to give your opinion on it.
I confess, I only got 7 minutes in before writing a comment. Does it matter? I don't have to watch the video to give my opinion on the game, which was the main focus of my comment.
At 8 mins I hated the game and destroyed it tho :(
This game is one of the few times early access was done right. With regular updates and feedback on progress. And a good launch.
Just bought it a few days ago and hooked! :) Before I really hated losing troops but then I just accepted that this is the reality of mercenary life.
This game is on sale on Steam. It's 50% off and currently costs $15. The sale ends on May 11, 2019!
Saw this one day too late :(
@Doom Wraith Lol precisely why Im here. I think I have to buy it
Damn... its been 5 yrs.... oh no
I've started playing this game a few days ago and its becoming one of my favourties. Thanks for reviewing such games Mack, wouldn't have known of this gem if it wasn't for you :)
whos here because of the new DLC that came out? :) great game
I put 20 hours back into Skyrim recently, it just felt like empty scavenging.
But this, this looks impressive.
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is free on steam for 24hrs.
Thankssss!!!
Oh shit thanks for the heads up man
Dude you are the best!
Literally god.
Unfortunately the game is shit now unless you like being rolled by disco break dancing hammer and greatsword users.

"Gief groceries bitch" = quote of the week!
"Geef groceries, bitch." I lost it.
great review as usual Mack, you're the only reviewer i trust anymore! Have you ever played any of the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games? Shadow of Chernobyl (with Oblivion Lost mod) is probably my favourite game of all time.
Imagine the grunts in Mount and Blade having the option to become companions... Damn
if this games combat can be remade using the infinity engine it would be epic, I already got a Icewind Dale feel for it with the UI and the overworld
Battle Brothers is still a top drawer game today🔥🔥
The moment i saw that randomly generated map at the start of the video i knew it was insired by M&B. Great game.
Nice review. I added this game to my wishlist on steam when it was early access and was surprised when it came out. I'm glad it appears to be a success story.
I have a feeling this is gonna be a great year for gaming.
Ahh yes 2017. Destiny to Destiny 2, Overwatch was booming, Fortnite BR was fun and not sweaty, and we still had Apex in a few years.

Wow...this one came out of nowhere....looks absolutely fantastic...looking forward to playing it ASAP..
GIEF GROCERIES, BITCH.
Oh god, I was cracking up with that one.
I haven't played a turn based RPG since King's Bounty on the Megadrive. I hold that game responsible for me failing my A Levels 1st time round. I have no exams to fail anymore, just life. I'm in.
i blame KOTOR
You can also try Darkest Dungeon, it's much darker and more difficult but that's what makes it so good
I found Battle Brothers way harder, must say.
Sounds like a 2D, turnbased Mount and Blade
Wrote that halfway through
"Oh, It's Mac and his gang of ass-faces!" 😂
I whonder if Mack realizes that you can actually move your fighters in combat ;-)
Thank you! This just came to Xbox, was glad to get a Mack review before buying. Going to get it now :)
A rare game i dont regret buying in early access
One for the wish list and wait for the Steam Sale price :)
the game is free and easy to find you people from the west havent heard of pirating?
Spicy Juice dude, don't pirate games, especially indie games
Well most people like to actually support the developers working hard to make these games...
interghost
Just buy it, reward a goid developer
I totally did for this one and I loved every god damn moment of it!
Wow -- This looks like something that might finally hold me over until M&B 2.
Did it work?
@@competent5761 Maybe he died before it was released?
you kinda make me want to go out of my way and play something different, great videos.
I knew this game had amazing potential when I got it in early access a year ago.
Over 650 hours in this monster
It's rare that you see an EA game done as well as this and by such a tiny studio. I'm glad I backed it. I'm hundreds of hours into the game and still in love with it.
Great review. It's a fantastic game and if/when they make it modable the possibilities are going to be endless.
Reminds me of Mount & Blade.
I hated the combat in mount & blade... but i can't lie this game looks addictive. Thirty bucks is still kinda steep though. Maybe $20.
Liked the review. Come month end I'm playing battle brothers with my pack of sweets. You convinced me.
I started it, got killed, read some steam guides, started again, got killed again, watched some youtube guides, started again, got killed again, and refunded

when you said "you got to gear everybody up" I thought you said "you got to gay everybody up". XD that would make for a weird game...
Sounds like Mass Effect: Andomeda
its their first game too
Noooooo not Olag mcflannigan, he had one day till retirement
This is the first video I watch from your channel and i gotta say I love the style of this review
Second review in a row where you mention Mount and Blade. Sounds like you're as excited about the sequel as I am.
I adore this game. Glad it survived early access.
£11 on Xbox End Year deals.... worth a punt?
I smell some mount and blade in the air
Milan Judák I'm thinking wargroove
Milan Judák smell the glove?
Even 5 years later Mac, I take your reviews on. Just bought 👍🏻
5 years later and All DLCs it’s £29.99
Seems like a fun game it's on sale now so i'll get it
Thank your for your video. Were you ever a fan of the dungeon keeper series (the total of 1 & 2...)? If yes, have you tried War for the Overworld?
so it's Mount&Blade with HoMaM's type of combat plus XCOM-type of emotional attachment to your soldiers..nice. I wish someone's remade Darklands.
I started watching this an I knew it, I just knew you would mention Mount & Blade. This is going on the wishlist. Thanks.

man this looks great wish I had the money
Pretty much, yes actually
Do you play iron man mode Mack? It will make your game a lot more tense with only one save ! Glad you liked this game been playing it since its beta and love it, plus the devs are a great bunch :)
Happy to hear ya have a gal Mack, old meg cant keep you distracted forever ;)
A giant jar of sweets and a keg of drink!
Mack you should try Divinity Original Sin. Great Rpg and it's turn base. I think you'd love it.
its shit. you are better off reading a book.
Ooooooh Mackj has a girlfriend. Do a WAB on her pls.
"She's not really worth the money right now but I'm going to come back to her in 6 months."
Installing Player Unknownsbattleground, expect a WAB in 2 mins ;)
Will be making a video live shortly but it's not a WAB
Totally agree. It has WAAAAY too many issues at the moment. I refund it after my first match. Such a disappointment.
I'm really glad you WABed this. I've just been playing it (again) and I'm absolutely loving it :D
A couple of the comments have asked you to review this game, including mine, so I'm very glad you chose to do it. Yay, Mack liked it.
I was on the fence about this, thanks for convincing me!
OMG you also remember Lords of Midnight on the speci I spent so many hours playing that game I lost half my life on it and have never found a game like that. I've been toying with the idea of buying this but just don't know.
Gimme the good stuff Mack. I need my ding fix.
Didn't know you had a partner again Mack
Nice :)

Gotta ask how did you get this tagged to te battle brothers review page on youtube gaming?
Player Unknown Battlegrounds?
Yeah I will
Sam Adams it has third person he not going to like it
Worth A Buy thanks. I'm fricken addicted to the game 😭😭
Guerrier Lory Yeah. But it's really good and tactical. Also, there's gonna be first person only hardcore servers in the coming future.
Guerrier Lory ..yes but you can play in 1st person also!!
It says a lot Mac if the Switch port is equally addictive as the PC original. Can't think of many titles like this. I play for maybe 30 mins, look up and 4 hours have passed oops.

"my partner" wait didnt this guy have a wife?
Is this game just turn based in the tactical combat screen? I seem to recall the strategic screen appeared to be moving in some kind of real time fashion.
Yes the map is real time
Thanks mate. BTW, is Dave from Witcher 3 done with that griffin yet?
I think its time for a revisit
Dude you just got a sub just because oh how you talk i love it
The character models remind me of my old Subbuteo models, are they sitting on a base or something?
I'd probably fell asleep after an hour.
Hit chance 75%... yeah sure... its more like... sub 50% dont even bother trying above 50% yeah you will maybe hit once in 2 hits...
Mack the guy who is serious well tries to be but cant be taken seriously fucking hilarious
REVIEW Playerunknows Battle grounds on steam. It is amazing. in one year of development they have acheived way more than H1Z1
awesome game, cant wait for an aus server on thursday, and this months update
Oh no! Olag McFlanygan died!
Prepare for my mighty RPGness.
nice review. keep up the great work mack. emm.. and something more.. in your latest videos your sound ( mic + game ) are low. In latest videos i must have the volume at least twice louder from older videos
I have turned up the mic volume so next video should be better
Worth A Buy Thank you man
The fact that warriors are jumping matryoshkas kills any interest in this game for me.
You had me at Mount & Blade
Mac flippin do a Battlegrounds WAB or i will see to it that in your next Tesco delivery you get sandpaper as a substitute for toilet roll
This review is Worth a Watch.

Lowry Its free to try so why not :P i found the game fun but a huge grind
i hope they add mod support

DO YOU WANT TO TRADE ON THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL MARKETS ANY TIME, ANYW- FFFFFFFFUUU

"... my partner was...." oh you kept that one quiet ;)

Looks like modern version of "darklands"
Great game, having lots of fun with it atm.
