There is so much wrong with this video that it's literally painful. Let me correct the vast majority of this for new players before this video puts a lot of incorrect/bad/or misguided information in your head that stalls your play-through unnecessarily. I will go in order of the video and correct them as I go:
    1. Mushrooms/Honey are good for cooking, you need honey for a certain npc as well (5 to be exact), health is NOT IMPORTANT. There is no death penalty in this game. Literally nothing happens when you die other than being put back at your house.
    2. Do NOT purchase tools from the blacksmith ever. Tools are extremely easy to make and the low level variants require minimal materials that are easy to get and you only need a Wooden Anvil crafting station to make them which is something you can make like 10 minutes in to the game
    3. This one is 50/50. Do you need extra trunks/storage for wood/stone early game, not really BUT can they be helpful, absolutely. Storage whittled down pretty quickly for me and once things start to pick up, inventory management of trunks becomes very necessary.
    4. He got that one right.
    5. Also correct, pushing items will save you a ton of time. This works with MANY items in the game.
    6. This one bothered me so much because its so wrong it's insane. DO NOT THROW ALL YOUR BAD BODIES IN THE RIVER. You will need to throw ONE (and only one ever) into the river to gain access to cremation. From that point forward any body that is low quality should be burned which will still net you a Burial Certificate, Ash, and Salt. 3 very valuable resources. As far as removing body parts is concerned I personally say go ham, stock pile shit early, your graveyard will pick up very fast once you get the hang of things and with the new update, corpse quality in the early game isn't a very big deal anymore.
    7. 50/50 again. The first part is right, Corpses decay (rather quickly) if left laying on the ground outside or inside (There are ways to manage this later in the game and eventually prevent decay altogether) but they DO NOT generate additional red skulls like he says, that is 100% false, they simply lose their current white skull count to green or Decayed Status.
    8. This one is right, keep an eye or your tools. (Common sense tbh)
    9. Correct. Food will make your life much much easier.
    10. Correct. There isn't a real need to buy food items really ever.
    11. This one is more opinionated than actually being a hard true or false. Missing a sermon can technically slow you down a bit but in all reality, its 100% irrelevant if you miss it. Yes, you do need to do them to progress but GYK has no ending or actual "Goal" your racing towards. You can play for 200 years if ya like, you have plenty of time to do sermons and in all honesty the beginner sermon sucks and doesn't net you much anyways....ergo, not a big deal if ya miss it.
    12. 50/50 The sleep debuff does exist but it's honestly not that aggressive and if you have ample food on you, just ignore it and finish your task, THEN go to bed. Seriously not a big deal. Also, it doesn't matter if you sleep at day or night in this game. Most NPC's are available during the day but certain things can only be done at night as well. Just sleep whenever you need to and don't be overly worried about what time it is.
    13. I don't even know why this is in his video. Corpses are really simple to manage. Bury or Burn, move on. That's it. Oh and you can totally stockpile corpses to burn 4 at a time and it doesn't matter if they are decayed or not, burning yields the same result every. single. time. So don't stress this one bit.
    14. I have no fucking clue what kind of rambling this one was....Yes plan out your Tech purchases accordingly as they are rather demanding in EXP. but you CAN'T unlock them out of order...."Do not unlock glass if you don't even have the furnace yet" (something like that he said)....umm okay cool because you CANT UNLOCK GLASS UNTIL YOU CAN ATLEAST MAKE A T1 FURNACE....HURRR DURRR. All the tech trees are follow logical progression...
    15. Let me debunk this myth. Blue tech points are not hard to get. There, I said it. Circumspect is a good buff but getting to the point of crafting Cakes can take a bit as you need a multitude of items to craft it. Here is short guide to easy early blue tech - Gather a bunch of stone -> Craft Stone Grave Fence/Gravestone -> Eat/Sleep as needed ->Enjoy having hundreds of blue tech (BONUS: You can deconstruct them to get your stone back if you don't plan on putting them in your Graveyard, but they are really good for an early Graveyard).
    16. Correct. This will save you time and trouble looking for stuff or checking your inventory before crafting.
    17. 50/50 The garden is moderately important early game yes, Mostly for carrots but you will not be making money off of it for quite a bit so don't go planting massive fields of crops and think it's going to solve your money issues.
    18. Started off right then dove right off a cliff...This video is seriously killing me. No, do not EVER buy parts from the blacksmith. ever. never. not even once. doesn't matter how much money you have. There was literally ever ZERO need for me to do this in over 100 hours of gameplay. I actually ended up late game making so many resources and crafting materials that i had to shutdown my Zombie Workforce due to over production lol.
    19. Sticks and firewood are super easily available right away, yes, use them to power your furnace until you get your hands on some coal. Firewood is easy to make and has a rather good burn ratio if ya ask me. "Firewood is the ' ' most hardest ' ' and ' ' tedious ' ' thing to craft in the game......Fucking WHAT?! But he told you to make early game cakes.....OKAY LMAO, try it and let me know which one you think is easier.....XDDDDD
    20. Don't waste your coin on Teleport stones unless you genuinely hate walking that much and you have the money to spare. At 2 Silver each, they are not exactly "cheap" in the early game. I rarely use them and I have over 500 gold.
As far as the "1st year" thing goes....umm this game doesn't measure your time quite like that. It does tell you how many in-game days have passed when you load up your game so technically 365 days would be a year.....except that it's like the fucking 1600's or some shit and they didn't use a 365 day calendar and there is no real construct of time in the game other than a 6-Day week and Day/Night cycles. Even if you did count your first year as 365 days, you will be so far by that point its insane and then you can comeback and laugh at this video with me.
    6/20 Correct.....Just. wow.

thank you, yes!! I've only put in ~20 hrs right now but so much of this video was not right or something I've already moved past and I'm only at 111 in-game days. Your list is exactly what I've experienced playing, and would've been helpful to know before starting. I like seeing content for this game because I really like it but so much of this would've thrown me off-course early game. The only thing I differ on is loving the teleport stone, lol...lets me spend more time crafting!

I only have one issue with your entire reply, and that's with #20... 2 silver for a stone that can get you home instantly if you are at the lighthouse when comrade donkey comes a callin' with a corpse? Teleport stone, and a beer for gerry were the first things I bought. But yeah, this list is scarily inaccurate.

The honey advise first mentioned is a BAD piece of advise. There is a hobo that wants you to collect honey for him and upon collecting him enough honey he'll teach you how to make cake. When you progress far enough in the game to research things in the church basement you should ALWAYS eat cake before researching as it will give you so much more reward for your research. This is really important early game when the only way to get blue points is from research.

    • @xenxander
      @xenxander Před 4 lety +39

Cake gives you a single extra blue point if you research.
It's hardly worth the effort, most of the time.
You can get faster blue points just making glass, and it's easy enough to open up sand collection and glass making.

In spite of the rule to not harvest honey, make sure to harvest 5 honey before getting the study desk unlocked. Give that honey to the hemp grower in exchange for the recipe for cake. I believe, the research bonus also applies to red and green tech points.

      @Kiertiana Před rokem +9

    2. Be aware that some items have a Quality (the colored star on the icon) and sometimes NPC's want a Specific Quality item. Do not just buy any quality to give to them.

Just starting out in my Let's play of Graveyard Keeper and I saw the Teleportstone and passed on it as money early game is hard to come by, especially before opening the Church. On top of that, there is no penalty for dying, some people intentionally die in a place you unlock later in the game just to fast travel home and on steam there is an achievement for dying a certain amount of times. While he says the cake is useful for blues, he also says not to collect honey, which is needed to unlock the cake. As a side tangent, it bothers me sooooo much that he has open, empty graves on his graveyard without making that a point of "do not" as it lowers your rating. Don't dig a grave until you're ready to fill it immediately with a body.

I believe i progressed the game kinda fast but some of these are really simple and are explained in ingame tutorials. Some better tips are grabbing creamtions early, dont build the ore storage in the workyard, and early access to the vineyard for grapes is extremely helpful and can get you good meals early. do harvest the honey - it's great energy and try to get bee friend as soon as you can, then really farm the honey. It's great energy and heal for really cheap.
don't be afraid to repair tools - by the time you wear out the first wet stone you will be able to afford a new one unless you are really bad with making money.
do not under any circumstances throw bodies down the river - cremate instead. this way you get the burial certificate and precious resources.
if a body looks bad for burial (too many red skulls, already decayed etc.) take out as make body parts as you can, you will need them later. Then, cremate it.
but most of all, don't pay attention to poorly informed Top X things to do or not to do in games :)))

    a) just jump into bed and leave if you have important things to do. It is enough to get rid of the debuff, and you can waste minimal time, just get a lot of food ready.
    b) get yourself some chest to keep blood/fat and rip it off everybody you can. It can be sold for decent cash mid-game, so having 50 can get you almost 13 silver. Fat is almost the same, except you make candles for sermon or for sale. You will need a lot of them, so it's good to start early.

    0. Year is actually 365 days, you should be able to complete this game during that time.
    1. Well these monsters are incredibly weak, and present almost no threat if you can understand their simple patterns. You really should collect honey, because it will be the best energy source at the beggining, along with baked mushrooms which doesent hurt you.
    5. Nice, calling someone a noob for not using a glitch.
    6. Its better to cremate the bodies, game counts how many bodies have you thrown into a river, althrought its not used yet in game, it can be... and cremated bodies are source of salt and ash, which can be turned into urns for graveyard rating.
9 Do i see a pie on your belt? It should be used mainly for research, not as energy source.
    10. Agree, very good energy source are the mushrooms... oh, wait.
    12. I heard that, and it was true in earlier versions, now i noticed only one tick which gives bonus energy during night(5), and one tick which gives less energy during day(2).
    14. Yes, you cant collect iron ore, but you can collect iron from a swamp, while unlocking iron parts and nails will save you a lot of money, and you can buy iron bars cheaper than nails and iron parts themselfes.
    15. Rare, and hard to get... just run advanced glasssmelting, it will give you blue points overtime. Also, did you used a cake having only one blue point item in the inventory? Are you serious, you wasted money.
    16. Having ink and paper on graveyard... it should be in church cerral...
    17. You should place compost in the line on the left? Why, because they fit there perfectly, so you wont waste any space like when placing them somewhere else.
    18. Before? So you should buy them after building a furnance?
    19. You have a lot of sticks, and almost no use for them, so using them will save you some time.
Final verdict: You are a noob.

    2. i repair every tool i have when its zero. i have steel tools now and my whetstone is yet to break 15%.
    6. just build the crematorium and burn the bodies. you get ash salt and burial cert that way. it cost 8 cylindrical logs. PS get everything in the autopsy at the beginning. You wont be burying anything good anyway.
15 green and red are easy to get. for blue craft the stone rectangle grave. stone is very easy to get and is better than wood graves anyways. so spam them and unlock those techs. PS cook lots of bread first since it cost quite a lot to make.
    20. yeah thought it was single use. boy was i wrong.

5:19... To be fair getting 2 silver for a teleport stone isn't that tough if you have access to the quarry, just mine coal a few times and sell enough to tap out the blacksmiths cash, then you can teleport pretty quickly, it has no durability, only has like a 20-30ish seconds recharge and in the long run more then pays for it self. You may say "Well it takes up a much needed inventory spot, which you are not wrong about, but being able to instantly pop over to the quarry mine till your bags are full then instantly teleport home or to the tavern to then sell your stuff to then only have to wait 20ish seconds to teleport right back to the quary saves you a lot of time for more resource gathering, "oh hey it is Sunday, I will chop down trees until dawn and then just teleport over to the lighthouse to buy the books I need then teleport over to the quary to get the coal for fuel I need then teleport back home to continue cutting trees.
The three thing I would say are a must for a new save is 1) get access to the quary and visit the lighthouse at least once ASAP, 2) unlock the ability to mine coal 3) sell coal to buy a teleport stone
Then I would say probably build an iron stockpile and stone cutter at the quary so you don't have to lug iron chunks around (obviously once you can make zombies this is less of an issue, but is still needed for zombie logic anyways).

#1 Mushrooms: Disagree. You can cook those mushrooms without harvesting honey, and it's nice to keep some cooked mushrooms on-hand. You never know when you're going to run 1-5 energy short of completing a task, esp. a task you _need_ to complete _now_ not 5 minutes later after you run to the bed and back. Cooking mushrooms is almost free, a few sticks or a couple pieces of firewood, or later, coal, will fuel the kitchen for a long time. Also, as an aside, you really need to learn how to fight the bats. They have hilariously easy attack patterns. Bait one into charging, sidestep it, and run up and slash twice or three times depending on which sword you have. You can usually kill it without taking damage, the damage comes when you get hit by a 2nd or 3rd while killing one.
#2: Stockpile: At some point you will want an iron stockpile as you don't start with one. But don't build that until you expand your yard.
#3: Don't bury bad corpses. *DON'T* throw corpses into the river! If you don't know how to cremate yet, DO put the corpses in the graveyard (unless you do what he did here and let it decompose, don't do that!) if you can get it to at least 0 rating (so it's not negative). You can dig the corpses up later after you learned cremation for the same price you got out of the burial certificate. It's literally free (other than using some energy). You will want to burn all of those corpses to make columbariums later. Even if you don't have that tech yet, you can save the ash until you do.
#19 Don't use firewood/sticks. Agree, but it _does_ take a bit to unlock the coal vein. You gotta clear the rubble either above the graveyard, or to the west (which also requires the bridge), which also requires some wood tech unlocks and also some metal parts.

  • @andromidius
    @andromidius Před rokem

Main thing I figured out not to do early on - burn sticks for fuel. Just don't do it. Sticks are a pain in the arse to collect - and sure, you can buy them or chop trees but its so inefficient. Save those sticks, build more storage early on and wait until you actually need them for making tools (or rather, dozens of chisels you'll need for advanced stoneworking).
Also, it might be cheating a little - but keep the wiki open and use it to remember what materials you need for projects away from the house. There's nothing more aggravating then walking all the way to the Witch's Hut to build the bridge and realising you don't have enough materials. Same with alchemy, there's so many ingredients to remember and some of them are annoying to gather for processing (and doubly annoying if you use the wrong station when you need solution and not extract, for example).
Remember to trade with the farmer and miller regularly (every day, ideally) to buy seeds and sell surplus crops. It makes the transition into the vineyard so much smoother to already have the seeds ready.

And do NOT do graveyard fests in the tavern untill you've done everything else and have a save to go back to, or rlse you'll glitch your game.

How can u waste money like that?
The less a seller has of a certain item the more it costs.
If u buy all his seeds those seeds will cost u like 20 copper or more each and u will loose money.
Also the more of a certain item the buyer has of the item u want to sell the less money he gives u for it.
With time the shops will use those items u sell, so sell different items to different shops to make the most out of your stuff.
Also english is not my native language so i cant explain it better.

Yes vendors remove 'x' number of items you've sold from them during the week.
Vendors add 'x' number of items you've bought from them, during the week (usually they restock to full within one week)
It's wise to know how much they 'eat' every week and only sell them that much, if you can micro it.
You can ruin the economy for quite a number of weeks if you offload tones of things all at once.

    1) Irrelevant. Health is not a problem at all in the game, since even without armor and a rusty sword, you will be able to take out most of the bats and slimes in a night, should you come across them. You can also make armor and better weapons quite early with the right tech investments. Also, get the honey every time, 15 health for the time you won't have the beekeeper perk is worth it for the honey, bees and honeycombs. You need honey early to get the cake recipie from Diogenes, which is super useful for energy restoration and research buff.
    2) True, don't waste the grindstone on anything worse than steel tools, since the crafting requirements are nothing compared to 10 silver, th only way to get the grindstone.
    3) You don't need that much storage in the beginning and you already have the stockpiles, so it's true
    4) Yes absolutely dig the stumps out
    5) kind of tricky to do especially moving horizontally, but nice when you learn to do it consistently.
    6) No you shouldn't bury bad corpses early, so at least remove blood and fat from them and see if the rating is good (or memorize which organ does what in terms of skulls and write it down to reinsert later if you are a perfectionist and want high-skull bodies early without the cultist perk.) Although never dump bodies into the river as you will be wasting money. Just use the crematorium for the certificate, ash and salt. Avoid wasting resources from corpses as they are always limited.
    7) Nothing to disagree on here
    8) The teleport stone which is must-have as early as possible and should be your first purchase at 2 silver renders this irrelevant. Use it twice and return to the quarry if your tools break.
    9) Food is important indeed but so are the recipies for most of the ones with a good craft difficulty to efficency ratio.
    10) The prices are indeed very high on the food, so make it yourself. I once bought some gold star onion rings for the merchant's gold star dinner quest, and that's it.
    11) This is more relevant for later-game with a better church and the combo prayer. Faith is the second currency here which is hard to obtain, and you'll need plenty for some useful crafting materials lenses.
    12, 13, 14, 15, 16 - no objections
    17) You will be forced to buy your initial seed for the garden which isn't that easy to do early game if you want a decent amount. But after you do, buy some peat from the shepherd for your first batch of crops to avoid wasting seeds, it's extremely cheap. After that you can compost crop waste into your own and get seeds back.
    18) not thay important early-game, it's unlikely you'll have a severe shortage of iron parts before being able to make your own as to resort to getting them from junk, but you'll need to clear it anyway so do it, it does help
    19) Coal is easier to get than firewood or sticks but you need to go to the quarry, which is tricky early as you need some resources for the bridge repair.
    20) The teleport stone is very useful as it saves lots and lots of time, so buy it as early as possble and always keep one in the inventory to cut distances and get unstuck just in case.

Think I went against more than half of the video's tips =)) I'm not in late-game yet, more like, middle-game, if that's a thing.

What about the Zombies? They can do a lot of the work for you. They can take care of your farm and deliver the produce to you and things like logging.

Zombies are part of a dlc. Some people may or may not have it.

People this video is from 4 years ago , there are several things wrong with this video beucase zombies were not even a thing, there was no dlcs or patches. Lauch version 1.0. Look for a complete beginner guide of max 1 year ago and its going to be more helpful, shark is a great guy but this video is old as fuck

XD I really enjoyed playing the game and I didn't buy any DLC at the beginning. I kept going around with the in game guided to learn how to do just about everything. The website wiki for this game made everything fast and simple! Haha I just wish I weren't so badly organized. I have chests everywhere I can fit them around the useful tools like the furnace and under my house but I keep running out of space. The satchels you can make offer a great way to multiply your carry weight by a lot and I laugh at it. I went ahead and purchased all the DLC when it was all on sale and it was a VERY good decision. Time also stops when you are fishing. You can collect a thousand fish (not have space for almost any of them) and they will just sit on the ground for eternity without spoiling, haha. The extreme soviet Donkey is hilarious the stories it brings back after you make the things it demands are hilarious. I have not yet finished the iron unicorn horn or weapon horse shoes yet.

I like how he said sleeping is an absolute wast of time and then a minute later he says if you don't sleep within a couple of days your stamina and health will star to deteriorate... pick one...

The 1st tip is kind of bad because would be using your bed to get energy and in the begining of the game money is worth more than your time because you will be needing it to get some very specific things and getting to iron is very important for money and other reasons you can allso sell coal in huge loads for big cash
